I’ll start.

So he’s been pretty good bless him, shit situation etc not knowing when he’ll be going back.

Using bowls that we don’t normally use because the rest are fermenting in his room.

Blocking the washing machine got 3 days with his washing, then handing it out over mine which is drying making my clothes and the room he has hung it in absolutely stink.

😭😭

See I thought that at the start that it was a bit... Offensive to refugees hence my snipiness earlier and being very woke. But I don't think it is. The uni students are seeking refuge at mum and dad's due to Covid. I think that's just it. Not that refugees are lazy smelly etc. The posters are using the term refugee innocently

Besswess88 · 02/02/2021 21:10

I just used the term refugee because they are sheltering with us unable to go back to the land of Uni.

I don’t think there is anything funny a lot actual refugees and I don’t think they are dirty, smelly and lazy.

I also cannot believe I just had to come on here and explain that, are people that bored they are actually trawling the internet for something to be offended by?!

I have some washing to rewash if anyone is looking for something to do?

Anyone?

Yes I agree, in the most part that is what people are doing. That is why it's ignorant though.
Refugee;

  1. a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
"tens of thousands of refugees fled their homes"
  1. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.

I get it, I have adult children and a teenager. But to compare their lives to that of a refugee is insulting and dim.

Thank you for asking Twistered

Besswess88 · 02/02/2021 21:16

Erm I wasn’t comparing. I used a word, there is a difference.

Can you just allow people to have a bit of light hearted banter please? In an absolute shit time?

It was just a lighthearted reference to university students being displaced. It’s hard to see how you find this offensive.

feelingfree17 · 02/02/2021 21:24

Great thread OP - I have LOL! My own little refugee is returning next week, and I will miss her so much. Hoping these youngsters get a bit more normality in their lives soon.

InMySpareTime · 02/02/2021 21:24

Fourth definition on Wiktionary seems to fit the Bill though:
(by extension) A person who flees one place or institution for another.

Mine made these weird cookies today bless him and put them in the cake stand ❤️❤️

He can be forgiven anything if he can bake decent cookies. I fancy some choc chip cookies. If you get too fed up of him, send him my way!

This. Absolutely this.

This. Jesus H Christ.
HyggaeHugger · 02/02/2021 21:57

Considering the UK is an island, many of us had ancestors who were refugees or oppressed or whatever, I think it's a bit of a stretch to be offended.

Are they edible? If so I envy you! Mine keeps baking and then running off with the actually very edible results to give them to his girlfriend. So I get tortured with baking cookie smells and then receive one if I'm lucky. He made a pastry thing earlier in the week and gave me a tiny one. Which was lovely. Went to bed at 2am, thinking I'd get some for breakfast. (whole tray full in oven). Nada. He ate them all overnight.

NO ONE IS COMPARING THEIR LIVES.

Why do you think they are?

I wouldn't wish to be insulting and imply that you are dim. Obviously.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 03/02/2021 02:13

Oh ffs. This thread is such a perfect example of why we can't have nice things on MN anymore.

I don't have a uni refugee, but one of my friends said the other day that they'd spent all morning do a proper clean of downstairs. Their 20yo uni refugee was deeply helpful. From their prone position on the living room sofa, they generously pointed out the bits that had been missed when they looked up from their phone.

Twistered · 03/02/2021 07:31

God those cookies don't look good!
Did he clean up afterwards?
I've one who likes to bake and cook and leaves a bombsite afterwards 🤷

Besswess88 · 03/02/2021 07:35

Yeah he cleaned up 🤣

Your banter and everyone's light-hearted stories have made me smile over the last few days every time I checked in with this thread. And of course helps me knowing other mums are having to put up with nocturnal creatures who raid the cupboards at 3am. GrinGrin
Bless them really. They should be off having the time of their lives instead of being stuck back at home.

By the way I have not one but two of these creatures Grin

I have a nocturnal dd. She's also clogging up washer/dryer for days and hoarding crockery. On the plus point she's cooking us dinner on Friday

mootymoo · 03/02/2021 07:52

@Bouledeneige

Ah that's the bone of contention with dd - I've moved away from her childhood home (divorce) and so she's stuck in a tiny town with interesting take aways. In normal circumstances it's a non issue for us because the city is 8 miles away with amazing restaurants but 8 miles might as well be 80 at the moment.

Frodont · 03/02/2021 09:06

Had an anguished text last night at 1am. "Are you awake???". She's been quite stressed over uni work so I got up and went to her room. "Sorry, but I really need you to approve the amazon prime login so I can watch a film on my laptop"

😒
