To want to drown him in a vat of his bloody wine?

I’ll say this is lighthearted but I’ll also be honest and say it probably isn’t Grin

Basically, I love wine- love it. Particularly red. I’m not a wine wanker but I’m pretty interested in the different ones, regions, wine tours, etc etc.

As a consequence of being 7 weeks pregnant, I’m not drinking any wine. There are still some beautiful reds in the rack from Christmas that I lovingly chose- I may look at them forlornly from time to time, even give them a stroke, but there they will stay (until the safest opportunity that I can crack one open) it’s all I drink really, I don’t care much for any other alcohol except wines and champagne.

DH enjoys a wine with me too and has indulged me in my wine passion over the years but is really a beer/ale drinker, has been since I met him. Loves a gin or rum and Coke too.

He has now decided that he ‘quite misses’ wine too, and has been reading up on wines of the week at Lidl’s and Aldi etc, and has enjoyed a couple of ‘really nice ones’ already this week. He’s just informed me that he’s ordered A CRATE of wine from Laithwaite’s to ‘stock the rack’.

I did go a bit nuts. Why the fuck has he decided NOW is the perfect time to indulge in what is my favourite thing, when I can’t have it? I’d have NO problem with him cracking on with his beer or run and come because I don’t like those, or even the odd glass of wine here and there, but I think he’s being a dick and I can’t make him see it.

Is it pregnancy hormones and am I being selfish?

Also can I please request that I don’t really wish to canvas any opinions from the competitive ‘under-drinkers’ of mumsnet that open a bottle of wine every six months and drink a thimble at the weekend. You won’t understand.

Although, I'm thoroughly enjoying non alcoholic cider so maybe see if there's any decent non alcoholic wines?

AldiIsla · 30/01/2021 19:32

He's being a prick. He's just decided he suddenly likes what you can't have? Bollocks.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 19:33

I haven’t found a non-alcoholic red. I found an alcoholic free Sauvignon blanc but fuck me, it was horrific, I spat it out Blush tasted like sugary nail polish remover, if you can imagine such a thing.

Ileflottante · 30/01/2021 19:34

I find non-alcoholic anything tends to taste a bit sweet and hollow. I’d rather just have a cup of tea. 😕

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/01/2021 19:37

He’s being a knob. Do you have a patio that could do with a husband-shaped extension? Because there isn’t a jury in the land that would convict you over this.

And yes, he WILL be hounded by Laithwaites until the end of recorded time, so at least that’s something Grin

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 19:40

@Ileflottante first floor flat, no private outside space, definitely it’s getting a body out of here that would present the biggest challenge. I do feed a couple of foxes every night out of the window, perhaps they’d help me out, if I make sure they’re very hungry Grin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/01/2021 19:42

@SmidgenofaPigeon Hmm, going to need some extra thought then. Do you know anyone who keeps pigs? They’re good for disposing of a body. Or, er, so I’ve been told

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2021 19:42

I usually drink beer and vodka with diet coke. I am dying for a pint right now. Helps a little that the pubs are shut.

However dh has stopped drinking because I can't, not that I asked him to, he just doesn't enjoy drinking on his own. He prefers when we can both enjoy a drink.

At hogmanay he got 4 cans of beer and I had 4 cans of non alcoholic beer and it just didn't feel the same. I did have a mouthful of his beer and it was like nectar.

Last pregnancy I went off alcohol completely this time it's all I want lol.

Tinkerbell456 · 30/01/2021 19:43

Is he the Duke of Clarence and did he order Malmsey?

GrandTheftWalrus · 30/01/2021 19:44

Oh, meant to add. Ive asked him not to get pissed near my due date, the rest of time he can. Its just incase we need to go hospital at short notice and I don't want to go with him pissed. That's the only thing I've asked him not to do.

turtletattle · 30/01/2021 19:44

It wasn't the best trip to Italy I've had! Hope he sees sense!! Or feed him to the pigs, definitely.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 19:45

@Tinkerbell456 yes, I think the Duke of Clarence sounded like a bit of a knob too, probably what made me think of this unusual method of execution.

OP posts:
Georgyporky · 30/01/2021 19:47

I'd hide it until you can both drink it.

Tinkerbell456 · 30/01/2021 19:48

😬😬😬😬😬😬

RandomMess · 30/01/2021 19:54

I would give all the wine to a friend to look after. Buy a few beers.

Rinse and repeat.

I would kill DH for suddenly eating dark chocolate whilst I have to abstain knowing that for the last 20 years he's only eaten manky milk chocolate.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 30/01/2021 20:04

I only drink very occasionally but man he is a selfish prick for doing this!!!
Why now if he has never done it before!!!??

deplorabelle · 30/01/2021 20:04

Take up a new hobby of sleeping in the middle of the bed with the door locked. It's the perfect weather for it.

GreenSlide · 30/01/2021 20:10

The reason he is doing it now is because he doesn't have to share with you. He knew if he ordered a crate before you would have drunk half of it. Stingy git!

HavelockVetinari · 30/01/2021 20:14

Might I recommend Nosecco with a dash of Angostura bitters? V like a champagne cocktail.

HavelockVetinari · 30/01/2021 20:15

PS YANBU!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 20:16

@GreenSlide oh god, I think you might have it there! What a twat.

OP posts:
SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 20:17

@HavelockVetinari that sounds fab, thanks, will definitely try it!

OP posts:
SmidgenofaPigeon · 31/01/2021 09:43

2.5 bottles he polished off last night...2.5 bottles!!!

Upshot is I probably won’t have to kill him- likely he will want to hasten his own end anyway when he wakes up.

Sexnotgender · 31/01/2021 09:44

God I hope he feels rough this morning 😂 is that bad?

Sexnotgender · 31/01/2021 09:44

I think some enthusiastic hoovering is in order.
