AIBU to LOVE this silk shirt?

Would love some thoughts on this shirt - I’m picturing it with top few buttons undone, worn with skinny jeans and heeled ankle boots for when we can actually go out of an evening again!

YABU - No, I’d rather wear a bin bag
YANBU - It’s weird, in a good way

AIBU to LOVE this silk shirt?

It’s ghastly.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 30/01/2021 00:36

@MrsA2017

This is the vibe
Oh, like a pricey version of my waitress uniform at the local Harvester circus 1995.

Got it.

Germolenequeen · 30/01/2021 00:41

Ewwww 🙈

rosiejaune · 30/01/2021 00:45

YABU to love anything that caused the scalding to death of thousands of silkworms.

Crampon · 30/01/2021 00:48

Maybe with a jumper and big coat over it.

JanuaryJonez · 30/01/2021 01:12

No!!

Aria999 · 30/01/2021 01:45

@chipperfish

Like a cross between Nelson Mandela and a deckchair Which is perfectly fine if thats the look you are going for
😂😂😂😂😂
grassisjeweled · 30/01/2021 01:48

I love it. I'd wear it

SabrinaMorningstar · 30/01/2021 02:04

Shirt is fine but I think the way you're going to style it is very dated.

yaboo · 30/01/2021 03:32

I quite like it. It's not something I'd wear personally, I can't do yellow/mustard shades, but as an over-shirt, white/yellow vest underneath, with blue baggy jeans, trainers, etc, could be nice.

Or, white jeans, the hem tied up, sleeves rolled up, few buttons open, messy bun, etc.

Yeah, I reckon you could make it work.

MacDuffsMuff · 30/01/2021 08:14

OP please don't ever wear anything that one could describe as 'jazzy'. Not ever.

I had s shirt almost identical to this in 1990 and I look at photos of myself in it and can't believe I ever went out looking like such a twat. Grin

DaphneDuBois · 30/01/2021 08:29

@sirbobblysock

For some reason I see Nelson Mandela wearing it.
That has finished me off haha.
Nonamesavail · 30/01/2021 08:30

Noel fielding.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 30/01/2021 08:36

I'm sure there's a photo in existence somewhere of my old high school boyfriend wearing that exact shirt at a disco in the 80s 😂

SarahBellam · 30/01/2021 08:56

The ‘80s called. They want their shirt back.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 30/01/2021 10:12

Genuinely out of interest and not being snarky, but why is OPs suggested look is considered by some of PPs as dated and ageing? If the shirt in question were less exuberant in colours and hence more "acceptable", how would one style it in a contemporary way?

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 30/01/2021 10:26

@MrsA2017

The only thing putting me off is the trying-not-to-ruin-it-in-the-wash situation

I’m not a very skilled housewife

I was about to ask whether you have black / Asian heritage... they tend to have colourful items
Yamayo · 30/01/2021 10:29

What's your colouring/hair like?

I can see it working on someone with wild curly hair- worn with chunky necklace, sleeves rolled up and big watch.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 30/01/2021 10:40

Not for me AT ALL but I could see it working slightly better as a dress possibly.

Blake Lively might make that shirt look good, fully opened, with vest underneath, some kind of fur gilet or cardigan on top and a large hat, but not many people would look good in that.

StyledOnLordBath · 30/01/2021 11:24

Appreciate the responses - I’m not going to order it because I’m sad about the silk worms, but I love this thread because it has absolutely confirmed to me that I would rather look like

Lord Bath/Nelson Mandela/Noel Fielding/Harry Styles/Someone’s Dad/DJ Jazzy Jeff/Absolutely Nuts/A Harvester Employee/A Twat/A Deck Chair/Devoid of Style/Your Mums Curtains

Than be boring 😄 (and yes, I’m looking at you Seasalt, Fat Face and Boden)

StyledOnLordBath · 30/01/2021 11:29

OP here with a name change by the way.

This thread is going to inform all of my outfit decisions going forward, I’m probably going to buy weirder clothes than ever.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 30/01/2021 11:34

I am not sure the opposite of boring has to be "ugly" but whatever makes people happy.

Good for you. I’m a great fan of weird although I prefer to call it individual and creative.
HerselfIndoors · 30/01/2021 11:43

I am not sure the opposite of boring has to be "ugly" but whatever makes people happy.

I think the thing is that people who have tamer, more conventional tastes (I didn't say "boring"! :o) will be more likely to see things that step outside that as ugly, where as people who are more into experimentation and design see it as more of an adventure and self-expression. A lot of fashion (and other design, eg architecture) experiments with the borderline or tension between exquisite and ugly. Sometimes "ugly" is a trend in itself, like with "ugly" trainers.

Aria999 · 02/02/2021 15:01

I also disagree about things being either boring or ugly.

I often love the look of really unusual outfits. Just not this one. It's partly the white stripe and partly the shape when tucked in and closed. It makes OP look top heavy and she clearly isn't. If I had to wear it I think I'd go with not tucked in, with a belt.
