Do people who are tight know they are tight ? My friend "Sarah" is the stingiest person Iv ever met the other day we were watching a programme about cheapskates and she said let's watch "Ashley on the big screen "and laughed just wondering if you were tight do you know you are and would you be offended if I told you that I think your tight ?

Still doesn't clear up why you think your work colleague is allowed round your place to watch telly...

Munkers · 29/01/2021 10:49

I have a friend who openly admits to being tight

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 29/01/2021 10:49

None of this makes sense.

MissBaskinIfYoureNasty · 29/01/2021 10:50

Is Ashley on the big screen the new Becky with the good hair?

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 29/01/2021 10:50

I am so confused

kale99 · 29/01/2021 10:50

@tobedtoMNandfart she is in my bubble as well as working together

Right I get it now 🤣

In answer to your OP I think this is more about hypocrites than tight people. And yes I have been a bit Shock at some people who have no self awareness.

My sister and her DH let their DD get extremely large from a very young age. They used to have cupboards crammmed with crisps and junk, never cooked healthy food and my poor niece is now 22 and is awaiting bariatric surgery. It angers me how they actually allowed her to get bigger and bigger and did nothing. Anyway, on the summer we were at hers and the small kids were all watching Matilda and Bruce Bogtrotter came on. My sister went on a rant about the poor actor and how terrible it is that people let their kids get so fat. I was HmmShock at her words, what's more 22yo niece was sitting right there. And she would have been the same size as that actor when she was his age.

Some people just have a total lack of self awareness!

Don't know, but Ashley might also T-Rex in the supermarket from the sounds of it.
wewillmeetagain · 29/01/2021 10:59

Tight people are one of my pet hates! I absolutely detest that sort of behaviour! There's absolutely no need for it, by tight I don't mean people that are having to cut back etc I mean people who will literally do anything to get out of paying their share!

LaceyBetty · 29/01/2021 11:00

I wouldn't call Sarah's behaviour as "tight". She a CF.

The other day in work our boss bought us some snacks to snack on during work hours Sarah put some in her bag to take home then asked to borrowed a fiver and said she will bring it in the next day but hasn't mentioned it since

OP posts:
kale99 · 29/01/2021 11:11

@DDIJ no because Sarah is actually a friend of a friends we aren't close

OP posts:
sqirrelfriends · 29/01/2021 11:11

Nothing wrong with being tight (in a financially responsible sense). Being stingy or mean is very different, scamming your friends into spending money on you isn't being tight it's being a bad friend.

sqirrelfriends · 29/01/2021 11:13
@DDIJ no because Sarah is actually a friend of a friends we aren't close
You're not close yet she's in your bubble?!

I don't have a bubble, I haven't seen anyone indoors this year because I don't know any single people to bubble with.

kale99 · 29/01/2021 11:15

Another example before COVID when we used to go to raves/concerts everyone would pay the equal amount but Sarah jumps out the taxi before everyone she does it all the time we don't say anything to her but why is it fair everyone else has to chip in a few more pounds so she gets a free ride

OP posts:
Ilovenewyear · 29/01/2021 11:15

Sarah is a CF and she knows it.

Nousernamesleftatall · 29/01/2021 11:15

I only value the opinions of people who have a reasonable grounding for their opinions, yes.

That doesn’t make sense at all. You are on an Internet forum.

kale99 · 29/01/2021 11:17

@sqirrelfriends Sarah wasn't in my house her name was only mentioned ! This happened a while back but because Ashley is doing more stingey things it's starting to annoy me that's why i have used that as an example

CounsellorTroi · 29/01/2021 11:19

@MaskingForIt

Your idea of tight is my idea of financially responsible.

I’d also struggle to be judged by someone who was barely functionally literate, so probably wouldn’t really care what you thought about my finances.

Being literate and spouting bollocks are not mutually exclusive.
WorraLiberty · 29/01/2021 11:22

Well it's not fair, so you need to woman up and tell her.

Just like you need to tell her you want the fiver back.

She's a cheeky fucker but you and your friends are enabling her.

CounsellorTroi · 29/01/2021 11:24

You really need to put Sarah on the spot. Say “Oi Sarah, you haven’t paid your share”. Job done.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 29/01/2021 11:24

This thread has broken my brain.

I also hate cheeky fucker cheapos though. Nothing wrong with being frugal, not ok to get out of paying your fair share. These are not your friends OP.

Meowchickameowmeow · 29/01/2021 11:24

She's not stingy she's an opportunist, she knows you're too embarrassed or weak to ask her to pay for herself so she continues to do it. If she wants snacks she pays for them or doesn't get them, same with drinks/takeaways/taxis etc.
She taking advantage but you're letting her.
