How much should that be?

OP posts:
Gobbeldegook · 29/01/2021 13:44

I was expecting primary school maths. Not actually costing. 🤣🤣

Dislocatedeyeballs · 29/01/2021 13:46

Hello oo! I am here..... Trying to think of an interesting exciting answer to your queries as to why I asked so as not to disappoint....

OP posts:
Dislocatedeyeballs · 29/01/2021 13:48

Do u actually want to know why I asked?

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/01/2021 13:49

No. We asked why just for fun

Ijustlikedthename · 29/01/2021 13:49

2-3 quid or about 8 from the Coop!

barskits · 29/01/2021 13:51

Cabbage 70p
Orange 40p
Lemons 2x30p

Total £1.70

Unless you got them in the reduced section in which case the whole lot was 28p Grin

toocold54 · 29/01/2021 13:53

You got them free because you grew them yourself.

I’m waiting on the edge of my seat for the answer

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/01/2021 13:54

I'm wondering if how much means
Weight
Calories
Cost

picklemewalnuts · 29/01/2021 13:55

I'm guessing they came in a veg box...

Or you bought them for someone who is now complaining at how much you paid!

I'm amazed anyone finds a green grocer cheaper than a supermarket. Perhaps they are for the more exciting stuff, but not for basics. Not here, any way.

Dislocatedeyeballs · 29/01/2021 13:56

Well as its for fun then... I asked because very u excitingly I am supporting my local greengrocer and I paid 3 pound bloody 50 pence I wanted to know if that was reasonable cos I thought for a flamin cabbage which is in season and 3 loose citrus fruits that was a flippin rip off every time I go in there I think the same and sure they type in any old crap in the till and never the actual price it's not a posh greengrocer either. I expect that at waitrose and obvs expect a local business to have to charge more than aldi but really how much are they inflating their prices or are they getting a terrible deal compared to giant supermarkets who are ripping off farmers? The cabbage was English can't blame Brexit for that or am I just out of touch with reality?

My money is on 'what is the most pointless thread we can comment on' when almost all of us have better things to do and complain we don't have enough time to ourselves Smile.

Bonus points if an argument breaks out about fruit and veg consumption, Brexit or anything about shopping during a pandemic.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 29/01/2021 13:59

Do they sell paragraphs at your local grocer?

Mine does. Next to the very reasonably priced herbs. Obvs.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/01/2021 14:00

Cross posted.

I find small local greengrocers a curious mix of bafflingly cheap and alarmingly expensive.

The same place will sell you ten peppers for 50 pence and ten sprouts for £2.

Dislocatedeyeballs · 29/01/2021 14:04

Carry on thenWink

luxxlisbon · 29/01/2021 14:04

Okay... you weren't forced to pay it?

I wouldn't think it's too much tbh. I would be happier with 2.99 obviously, but since I have no idea of the quality you bought then either is fine.

Yes, they really do not get as good deal as supermarkets.

And if you think they rip you off every time you go there, why the hell do you keep going🤷🏻

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 14:10

Even my tesco has the baffling high prices on mundane veg.

toocold54 · 29/01/2021 14:12

I’d say £3.50 is very high compared to somewhere like Aldi - it’s not about people not supporting local businesses it’s the fact that people just can’t afford to!

Many can afford to. No one is saying people must go and spend more. Obviously if someone can't, they can't. I don't know if it changed but aldi stuff used to go off pretty quickly, while my local veg people are bit more expensive, but it lasts a week. So in the end it was cheaper there as nothing has gone off and I didn't have to go to shop more than once, which lead to less of "ooooh I might get this too!"😁
picklemewalnuts · 29/01/2021 14:31

Well done on trying to support your local business, OP. I just can't find it in me to pay those prices.

There's always one. Hmm I like to try and support local businesses but I wouldn't/couldn't at those prices OP.
listsandbudgets · 29/01/2021 14:37

Glad to see the explanation OP - I was beginning to wonder if this was a free school meals issue and that is what you'd received in lieu of a £30 voucher to feed your child for a week - in which case I think you'd have had legitimate complaint Grin

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 14:39

I thought it might be ready steady cook inspired!

Technonan · 29/01/2021 14:43

Just priced them up. Waitrose, £1.61 (though they only had blood oranges in packs, so I had to estimate that).

Technonan · 29/01/2021 14:44

My local greengrocer, a little bit more. (No blood oranges to check). But only pennies.
