Drives me nuts , why do they have to cling to each other on shows such as "A Place in the Sun" ( naff I know, but love it ) and " Location, location" ? Makes me cringe .

Haha, I think it’s sweet

Young love all nervous about buying their first home Smile

Crazycatlady83 · 28/01/2021 19:44

Lol - thought exactly the same last night actually when I was watching A Place in the Sun! Why can’t they let go of each other for 5 seconds?!

SomewhereInbetween1 · 28/01/2021 19:44

Because they want to 😂 I feel a bit weird if I'm walking with DH and not holding his hand.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/01/2021 19:45

YES!

And, in Escape the Country, the MAN has to steer the woman out of every room.
Every single room.

It must blow their mind when there's a gay couple on.

Only children need to hold an adults hand.

When adults do it, sorry but you might as well be a cat pissing up my leg to mark your territory.

Location Location isn't the worst for it to be fair. In this aspect and in the fact that they actually usually buy a damned house, it passes for gritty realism in the world of property buying programmes. Escape to the Country and A Place in the Sun are so cringey. Clearly they are instructed to do so and it's clear that many of them don't make a habit of it in real life and look really awkward. It's particularly irritating when they're walking in narrow corridors, looking around bathrooms etc, followed by the inevitable 'it's a bit small'. I shout at the screen 'but you won't be glued to one another in real life and taking up so much effing space!'. The old chestnut where the man puts his hand on his wife's back to guide and shepherd her around the house lest she fall over/get lost/Christ knows what else has been much commented upon here

Seriously?
theleafandnotthetree · 28/01/2021 19:55

I find it particularly cloying when they are somewhere really hot/sticky. I'm just imagining the sweaty palms, and the hand on the damp patch at the wife's back when the husband is doing his steering thing. Yuck

shhsecretsquirrel · 28/01/2021 19:59

Committed hand holders here - 11 years in, I don't think it's a habit we can break.

Hoiking · 28/01/2021 20:00

I can't stand seeing couples sitting right next to each other on soft furnishings, so they sort of slump into one lump of humanity.

HettieMills · 28/01/2021 20:00

Nothing wrong with it. We're old and we still hold hands. Not hurting anyone else is it.

Tal45 · 28/01/2021 20:01

I love holding hands, I guess it just depends how touchy feely you are.

NorbertMeubles · 28/01/2021 20:02

Drives me mad too. Makes them look pathetic.

NiceGerbil · 28/01/2021 20:03

What's wrong with holding hands with your partner Confused

GrinGrin ikr cab you not manhandle eachother for like 5 mins..seriously

Ingridla · 28/01/2021 20:10

Just remember 1 in 2 will end up divorced Wink

Sunnysideoftheshite · 28/01/2021 20:14

It's not the odd hand - hold here and there I object to, it's just the necessity to do it for the WHOLE show!!!

Harrykanesrightsock · 28/01/2021 20:15

Because the production team tell them they have to.

Nothing at all if that's your natural behaviour. But it is simply not credible that every sodding couple on these programmes are those kind of couples, I for instance know virtually nobody in real life who does so, especially if they were doing something as business like as viewing a house. They'd be too busy peering in cupboards and doing imaginary measurements of how many feet a room is. Now that would be funny, to see one of the joined at the hip couples going lockstep across the room putting one foot in front of the other. Clearly they are instructed to 'act' this way. The thing is, it would be so much more entertaining if people just acted like themselves, complete with withering sighs, eyes cast to heaven and the usual stuff. Now that I'd pay to see.
theleafandnotthetree · 28/01/2021 20:22

And I don't mean entertaining in a horrible way, just more relatable

user194729573 · 28/01/2021 20:30

Don't they audition people for these programmes? So they could be selecting only the couples who perform as they want.
