Drives me nuts , why do they have to cling to each other on shows such as "A Place in the Sun" ( naff I know, but love it ) and " Location, location" ? Makes me cringe .

@HorseOfPhillipMoss

We used to hold hands often, still do sometimes but not often one of us is wrangling a runaway toddler. Didn't realise it was a thing to comment on until a friend sent me a text saying 'awww just saw you and DH in town walking along holding hands, didn't want to interrupt as it looked so sweet'. Wtf?? FWIW I am very much an independent person, have a good career, actually earn more than DH, I just like holding my husband's hand...
What do earnings have to do with it?
CostaDelCovid · 29/01/2021 01:22

@FinallyFluid

We are thirthy three years together, we hold hands out walking,even in the height of the heat in Andulucia.

We sit on the couch right next to each other, he has his arm around the small of my back, I have my hand on his knee.

To quote our teenage son, for God sake Mother you would barely get a credit card in that gap. Grin

he has his arm around the small of my back HmmHmmHmm

WHY?!?!?!?!

Sendingasurprise · 29/01/2021 01:35

It's not the holding hands, it's the doing it in public that seems unnecessary. Public displays of affection used to be considered as being in poor taste - this must have changed a bit over the years.

Sendingasurprise · 29/01/2021 01:37

I prefer not to see it in public, just seems too personal. Over 80's etc exempt as may help with steadiness.

yaboo · 29/01/2021 01:39

they're still getting it. And Oxytocin. Aww. Sweet.

1forAll74 · 29/01/2021 02:01

I prefer watching those programmes about hoarders in houses, as nobody want's to hold anything, never mind hands.

Hoiking · 29/01/2021 07:15

You sound like the stars of a Sun Life commercial.

swissmummy12345 · 29/01/2021 07:29

Urgh put each other down FFS. It's like the man might as well do a piss round the woman marking his territory!

And there will be the inevitable 'well darling, there's my wardrobe space sorted! Don't know where your stuff will go! Girlish giggle from the 1950s'

Sunnysideoftheshite · 29/01/2021 07:50

Just to clarify , I have no problem with affection, couples holding hands when walking etc. I do it from time to time with my husband . What I do have a problem with is dragging each other round from room to room like the world's going to end.

Yes ! I was just thinking about this recently 🤢 ridiculous.

BeenHereForAges · 29/01/2021 08:28

Loving these! And the inevitable "invitation" of one of the welded together to venture into another room/upstairs with Phil or whoever which is met with excited oooooh's and giggles as theyll have to untangle from each other and navigate a few feet alone.

Grin me too!!
Kljnmw3459 · 29/01/2021 09:15

I'd be clinging on to DH for dear life because the cameras would give me a fright.

Arobase · 29/01/2021 09:15

@TheSpottedZebra

YES!

And, in Escape the Country, the MAN has to steer the woman out of every room.
Every single room.

It must blow their mind when there's a gay couple on.

That irritates me so much. I always want to slap those steering hands away.
Ginmaker · 29/01/2021 09:21

Friends parents appeared on one of those programmes. When he watched it all he could say was.. "WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY HOLDING HANDS?"

Turns out they have never held hands in the 45 years he's been alive but they were told to by the producers

Arobase · 29/01/2021 09:22

@LizFlowers

Couples usually hold hands when they are out, don't they? Husband and I always did, it's normal.
Nope. We never do, I'd feel really weird doing it.

Yes! And the presenters' assumption that only the wife is interested in the kitchen.

CorianderBee · 29/01/2021 09:33

Idk me and DP hold hands kind of automatically. We just like to be touching. Also means we can have secret signal conversations that the presenters and cameras couldnt see.

CorianderBee · 29/01/2021 09:34

@Arobase you'd hate being me then. I still hold my mums hand when we're out together. She told me off when I tried to stop as a teen and so I still do it.

Sometimes hold my dads hand.

Mostly hold my partners hand.

We're hand holders apparently.

peak2021 · 29/01/2021 09:53

I never get as far as noticing this as I avoid such programmes altogether. I consider they contribute to the housing crisis we have as they encourage second home ownership and people viewing property as a speculative investment not just a roof over their head.

I think this is lovely by the way. I dread the day when my tweens stop holding my hand.

The people on right now have their arms entwined so they can’t move properly.

I do wonder a bit when they show a retired couple buying a house which is very obviously intended as a family house. It seems such a waste having all those bedrooms lying empty on the off-chance that someone will get around to visiting them.
NorbertMeubles · 29/01/2021 16:49

There was a couple on one of these shows this afternoon doing it and the woman's arm was wrapped around the man's arm so much that it looked like a snake was wrapping around it and squashing it to death.

Meowchickameowmeow · 29/01/2021 16:54

@LittleTiger007

I love holding my husband’s hand. It’s not possessive or territorial it’s simply about wanting to touch him. It’s normal in a close loving relationship isn’t it? We’re middle aged... not loves young dream.
I think it's more expected here to hold your husband or partner in utter contempt. We hold hands, always have and hopefully always will. I like that connection to him.
