Drives me nuts , why do they have to cling to each other on shows such as "A Place in the Sun" ( naff I know, but love it ) and " Location, location" ? Makes me cringe .

" I can't stand seeing couples sitting right next to each other on soft furnishings, so they sort of slump into one lump of humanity."

I dont know why, but this comment made me really laugh

Grin Ive found my people...

I think this every time I see these programmes...

In real life I think I only know of two couples remotely like this... One in particular gets right on my last nerve... At a bbq holding a conversation and he is hanging round her waist, rubbing her back and kissing her shoulder....

Glad DH is not like this I'd be like ffs get off me Wink romantic I'm not ha ha

I find it cringey when any adult holds hands with another, the way Posh and Becks and Harry and Meghan are always glued at the hip, it's just so teenaged and "Look at us, we're so in love!"

Many years ago, DH's friend introduced us to his lovely new girlfriend. They were permanently holding hands, he would pull out her chair, stand up when she left the room etc. DH and I felt like two maiden aunts watching them. Their marriage lasted less than a year, she said as soon as the wedding was over he changed.

I’ve been thinking the very same thing myself. It’s truly irritating. Escape to the Country is the worst offender. I also wonder how many house buyers aren’t still together for the Location, Location catch up.

clopper · 28/01/2021 20:43

My parents in their 80s always hold hands when out walking . I love it I think it’s sweet

catfeets · 28/01/2021 20:51

I was thinking the same thing yesterday watching A Place in the Sun. They kept zooming in on their hands which isn't so great when it's also got the bloke's crotch and overhanging belly in shot.

I love watching'Escape to the Country,'
My husband and I hold hands.
Been married nearly 30 years.
Sorry.

CherryRoulade · 28/01/2021 20:58

I don’t watch it but we hold hands quite often.
Married 31 years.

God yes, I feel suffocated just reading that. Again, this kind of thing in the sun and heat is even worse...the menopause is coming for me isn't it? Shock
toolazytothinkofausername · 28/01/2021 21:00

@SomewhereInbetween1

Because they want to 😂 I feel a bit weird if I'm walking with DH and not holding his hand.
Same :)
Stinkywizzleteets · 28/01/2021 21:03

It may be a security thing to calm nerves. Even the most chilled people go a bit bonkers when the camera starts recording. Production will often ask couples to hold hands to stop fidgeting

Yes to this, the sort of slumping and morphing into one another, but then I never ever want to be that sort of couple. And I am madly in love with my partner by the way. I just don't want our cells to start merging
Downton57 · 28/01/2021 21:10

Escape to the Country people are annoying in so many ways. It's just stock phrases on repeat...the kitchen's too small for us to entertain....we could put our own stamp on it....the garden's too small for our horse/chickens/vegetable patch...we love all the character, but we'd like it to be open-plan.

Magicbabywaves · 28/01/2021 21:13

I find this a bit odd too.

NoOpinionNoProblem · 28/01/2021 21:18

Property programmes are irrelevant to many people, since they can't afford property, so i'm baffled why we have so many of them in a country with a housing crisis. These programmes are just aspirational frothy crap TV, but I guess they are cheap to make.

Nothing wrong with holding hands though, but I have noticed it and thought it was strange. It's the odd, really straight-laced couples where the woman clearly wears the trousers that seem to do it.

hellejuice91 · 28/01/2021 21:35

" I can't stand seeing couples sitting right next to each other on soft furnishings, so they sort of slump into one lump of humanity."

This really tickled me.

Holding hands is something my Husband do whenever we are out together, but I agree on these shows it may be the show asking them to do it sometimes and probably isn't always natural

Downton57 · 28/01/2021 21:40

Did anyone see the episode of the escape to the country with the tall blonde Russian girl and the wealthy wee guy in the cowboy hat? They were a bit out of the norm for the programme.

Annabell80 · 28/01/2021 21:41

I love holding hands with my husband and I miss it now we can't do it (as one of us will be pushing the pushchair).
Also love cuddling up on the sofa and him rubbing my back. I can't see why it bothers anyone.

Fieldsoftripe9 · 28/01/2021 21:43

As someone else mentioned earlier its because the directors and producers ask them to do it. No other reason!

I've been in a 12 part documentary and it was all pretty much staged.

BeautifulStar · 28/01/2021 21:44

This thread reminds me of this - anyone remember?

Oh yeah I spent more time thinking about that couple and the whys and how's. Than looking at the actual houses
LizzieSiddal · 28/01/2021 21:49

I don’t watch these programmes but dh and I hold hands when it’s just the two of us, we’d never do it if other people were there. Been married 32 years.

TheWernethWife · 28/01/2021 21:52

I totally agree about the constant hand holding. Another thing is - a lot of the couple are retired/about to retire. They want a detached home, with no neighbours, situated at the back of beyond.

If I retired to the country, I would like to be near a good GP/Hospital not stuck up a country lane with hardly any access.

Dumbie · 28/01/2021 21:52

Being filmed is very uncomfortable, surely its a way of feeling secure.

SeeSawSeen · 28/01/2021 21:56

I don't mind the hand-holding. What I CANNOT BEAR is when the couple is doing an interview to camera, sitting down or standing side by side, and they spend the whole time looking at each other while they're talking. The odd glance would be okay, but the constant staring at each other...Confused
Totally irrational I know, but I wish they would look at the camera, and not look at each other for approval, or whatever it is!
