To make an offer on this house even though we won't be able to move in for another 6 months?

I've fallen in love with this house:

swoon

We were planning to move after ds has completed A-levels this summer. Obviously there is uncertainty around what form these will take, but we didn't want to disrupt him until they're done and dusted either way.

But I am a little bit gutted because this place has everything we'd be looking for - size, style, location, budget - and these sorts of properties tend to go quickly.

We could, probably, get a mortgage for it. We are FTBers so no chain. We currently live with family.

I'm completely insane, right?

OP posts:

OP, you probably know this already. But Ramsgate has lovely swimming beaches, loads of historic buildings, grammar schools and.... drum roll... Waitrose. What more could a Mumsnetter ask for?

frumpety · 28/01/2021 18:28

Who lives in the house next door ? Those blinds make me think HMO.

Carishina · 28/01/2021 18:34

Why buy this house when the delights of this one are available for a mere £75k more?

@CeaseAndDesist you havent said you wont view it in person, but the details say "online viewing" so....

How odd that their kitchen is so shit but their bath is so extra! It’s a performance space!

Hate cooking, loves burlesque...

frumpety · 28/01/2021 18:57

Do you think the bathroom doubles as a Chapel of rest ?

katscamel · 28/01/2021 18:58

Ramsgate is one of those seaside towns supposedly being developed. It used to be nice but over the years has become a bit of a dump. It does have one of the largest Weatherspoons, a nice harbour and a good Turkish restaurant.... oh and the High Speed train to St Pancras.

Oh I hadn’t thought of it like that. For those who loved a spa and want to be visited in style pre funeral.
FASDE1517 · 28/01/2021 19:17

Ramsgate is gorgeous! What strange previous comments. I'd definitely go for it, it will take a while to all go through and you don't have to move in straight away.

All details say that at the moment. It’s so that people panicking about lockdown know it’s an option.

Wow, what a difference. That’s actually really nice.

StoneofDestiny · 29/01/2021 21:37

Geezo - Ramsgate needs some interior designers 😂

worlybear · 29/01/2021 21:52

Know the area well.
Parking is horrendous.
Ramsgate town is grim.
There are much better places to live in Thanet.
Strongly suggest that you visit the area before buying.
All that glitters is NOT gold.

Frankola · 29/01/2021 22:47

When we sold our house we wouldn't accept any offers without mortgage in principle and proof of fund etc.

When it came to viewings the estate agent wouldn't even show our house without mortgage in principle

sbhydrogen · 29/01/2021 23:11

I completed on a house two weeks ago and I put forward the offer in August.

You should buy it and move in when you're ready (post A-levels). Plus you can change the amount of your deposit until you exchange, I think. Have a chat with a mortgage advisor and double check.

Buy the house, buy the house.

A goldfish would cotton on quicker. She doesn’t want advice on the area!!!!!
QueenPenny · 30/01/2021 01:27

I'm not sure about the house nor area...

BruceAndNosh · 30/01/2021 01:54

No idea about ramsgate but you'll need at least 2 months worth of decorating before you move in, half of which will be spent painting over that bright red RSJ in the kitchen.
It doesn't look in particularly good state, in the video walk through you can see the paint is badly chipped on door frames

Villainelle77 · 30/01/2021 08:07

The window to the right of the balcony is actually a door, it's been done to match the other windows but has a step up to it in the bedroom.
Next door appear to have an aviary 😬

floss1 · 30/01/2021 09:21

Takes 6 months atm anyway - at least!
There is talk of extending the stamp duty holiday so that would be handy!
Go for it, if it’s where you want to be.
Good luck

Mascaramademehappy · 30/01/2021 09:36

Pic 10 looks like there is water damage to the ceiling line.
No shower over the bath
Not a very attractive street

It’s a lot of money to spend so make sure you get a proper structural survey as well as visit at different times of the day / week

worlybear · 30/01/2021 11:55

In response to a rude pp,who wouldn't check out the area before moving to it?
Lived in that area for over 2years.
No way would I ever buy there because of it.
P.S. I'm not a goldfish.

I’m assuming from the P.S. that I’m the ‘rude PP’?

I never suggested the OP should move there without even having a walk around the area. I pointed out what a worrying number of posters have either failed to notice or have simply ignored - the OP didn’t ask for views on the area. Does her opening post say ‘What do you think of Ramsgate?’ Does it even ask what MNers think of the house, or its price? No - it’s a question about whether she could make the offer now when she doesn’t want to move yet. It’s not that hard to comprehend.

Anoisagusaris · 30/01/2021 12:00

I don’t get the issue? If you like a house, are in a position to buy it and your offer is accepted, who is going to force you to move into it immediately after the purchase? Once you own it, you can do whatever you load with it.

Anoisagusaris · 30/01/2021 12:01

Like, not load Blush
