To think Mumsnetters should read posts properly

I’m not trying to be goady here and I do genuinely value and appreciate the advice I’ve had on here.

However AIBU to think that when posters don’t read a post properly and then Wade in with suggestions it’s really a) spectacularly unhelpful and b) can actually add to stress for the OP as she has to fend of useless advice and then almost inevitably is accused of either c) ignoring helpful advice or d) has her own mental health called into question.

So for example you will get a post that says something like, I really need advice on a morning routine. I’m a single mum and I have a 3 year old DD who needs to go to nursery and a 6 year old DS who is at school as I’m a key worker. My mum used to help us but she’s in hospital

Poster one - how old is DS? Can’t he get to school himself?

Poster two - can’t the kids’ dad help?

Poster three - why are your kids at school/childcare in a pandemic?

Poster four - can’t your family help out?

Ah yes, I would luff an edit button.

Though some mistakes are unintentionally hilarious.

The problem with editing is people often remove something they are called out on, or for wrong, or just want to change to suit a new angle. What you get are a load of posters quoting the OP immediately to prevent that. It’s messy.

I’d rather people can’t change their story. I can cope with the odd typo

YANBU BillMasen there's a raw element of truth to posts when they can't be edited.

Butterymuffin · 29/01/2021 15:47

if you’re too busy to read a post, why answer it at all?

Because posters imagine that their half-arsed remark is the golden nugget of wisdom that OP can't do without.

(I'm doing the same here myself, of course Wink)

shadypines · 29/01/2021 15:48

Yes they should OP. Can you imagine in RL if you half-arsed listen to someone or didn't listen at all or just opened your ears at random words and then gave your response? No great surprise that the response is then half -arsed and often totally unhelpful/upsetting for the OP.

Along with the above imagine the in RL someone wading in to whatever you said with both not listening and making their own assumptions and giving their own agenda, no matter what you were trying to say.

Imagine what a PITA they would be.

I agree. If people are too busy to read the post then don't reply. Occasionally I miss something in an OP if it is long but some peoples reading comprehension is shocking at times.
