According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

Smallish Dinner around 8pm. Today we all had 2 eggs scrambled on 2 pieces of toast.

Everyone has a snack when they come in form school/work (fruit, yog, toast, cheese...)

Our children still living at home are late teen and adult age.
At the moment we are all having a cooked lunch together as we are all working from home. And DS is not at school, obvs.

We have dinner somewhere between 6.30 and 7.30. Depends on what we're cooking and if I've been at work all day! Children are teens so no need to be fed early due to bedtime etc. When they were young I used to feed them at 5pm and DH and I would eat together at 8 (after bedtime!)

Talking to friends it seems they mainly do the same

notsosmoothie · 27/01/2021 21:57

I've basically been eating nonstop since March 2020.

CharlotteRose90 · 27/01/2021 21:57

I finish at 6 so I eat tea between half 6 and half 7 . If I eat too early I get really hungry later on

WeatherwaxOn · 27/01/2021 22:00

I was in a meeting until 6:55, and I had another scheduled for 7:30. Just about shoehorned dinner in the half hour or so of free time.
Usually don't tend to eat in the evening until around 7, unless I'm doing some exercise classes in the later evening, in which case I have a large lunch and a snack at around 5.30 and then pig out on crisps afterwards

itssquidstella · 27/01/2021 22:00

We have dinner between 7 and 8ish.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 27/01/2021 22:01

It depends on my working day. If I'm on an early lunch, that means I've had my lunch at 11:30, so I'd be hungry by 5:30 and would make dinner rather than snack.

If it's middle lunch it's 12:30, and late is 13:30, so my dinner would be later. Normally eating by 7:30 though.

Conversely, my housemate and her boyfriend started eating about 10 minutes ago...

beckyboops · 27/01/2021 22:02

Nope we eat around 9:00pm but we're in Spain so 6 is way too early for us

Darbs76 · 27/01/2021 22:02

I eat dinner early, 5ish. Always did growing up, now I’m working at home I do again but when in the office it’s 6-6.30. I don’t eat again in the evening, I go to bed early so no temptation

gingganggooleywotsit · 27/01/2021 22:03

We eat with the kids around 5 but that’s because we are all stuck at home at the mo! Have to say I’m usually starving again by bedtime and eat toast about 11

Benjispruce2 · 27/01/2021 22:03

We are eating dinner around 6pm. I’m home at 4 though.

AprilThe8th · 27/01/2021 22:03

We eat at around 5.30.Dh gets in around then and we are all hungry at that point as eat lunch around 12

Benjispruce2 · 27/01/2021 22:05

I eat at 7am, 12(school lunch hour) and 6.

MrsAvocet · 27/01/2021 22:05

We eat around 7.30pm most nights. In normal times its sometimes much later due to one or more of us being out at some activity or other, but obviously there's none of that at present.
When I was growing up we had our evening meal at 5.30/6pm. My Mum would have it on the table as soon as my Dad came in, and he worked quite close to home.
My DH's family are from a country where its normal to eat meals later so he would say 5.30 is nearer lunchtime than dinner! Plus when we were first married we were doing jobs where it was unusual for us both to be home before 7pm. So my habits changed and I wouldn't want to eat early now.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 27/01/2021 22:06

I haven't even started cooking by 6! When the world is normal, neither I nor DH are home before 6:30 at the earliest! We usually eat between 7:30 and 8:30.

viixie · 27/01/2021 22:07

We eat between 16:00-17:30 I hate a late dinner and feeling full at bed time

Crosstrainer · 27/01/2021 22:08

I’m with you, not your DH. My preference is 8.30, but we try to eat with the kids. I aim for 7ish, but it’s nearly always 7.30.

Chloemol · 27/01/2021 22:11

At 6pm most people are just getting home from work

6.30pm is the earliest

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 27/01/2021 22:11

@viixie

We eat between 16:00-17:30 I hate a late dinner and feeling full at bed time
What time do you finish work??
Minnie6078 · 27/01/2021 22:11

7.30-8pm in the week can be anytime up to 10pm on a weekend. If I ate at 6.30 I'd be starving again by 9

NichyNoo · 27/01/2021 22:13

Pre-children we ate at around 7.30-8pm. Now we eat between 5-6pm with the kids as they start bedtime routine at 7pm.

Leannethom85 · 27/01/2021 22:16

We usually eat dinner around 6pm, unless I'm working my dinner is around 8pm, my kids is still around 6...the time kids get in from college or school they'd have munched on rubbish coming home.

Kokosrieksts · 27/01/2021 22:16

No, that’s too early and would mean a whole lot snacking before bed.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 27/01/2021 22:22

See Im the other way. I wouldn't manage 1- 8 without snacking.

Dee1975 · 27/01/2021 22:23

We eat between 5.30 and 6 when we can to all eat together as a family. So always on weekends and the days I don’t work / or finish early ... and now in lockdown we eat then as I start dinner as soon as I finish work.
‘Back in the day’ the dc would eat around 530-6 after after school club and we eat around half hour after I am home, so say 630. We prefer an early dinner.
