According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

i can't survive past 6 .. but know im unusual for this, just trained from eating at that time from growing up i think and stuck with it. most people I know eat later.

gwenneh · 27/01/2021 22:25

We eat between 5:30 and 6, too. I get home at 4:30 and DH works from home, so we're all here. Covid didn't change anything in this part of our routine; all of the DC's activities were on weekends.

Dee1975 · 27/01/2021 22:25

🤣🤣🤣

Dobbyismyfavourite · 27/01/2021 22:26

I'm just getting in from work at 6pm, and I work locally. Dinner in our house is 7pm - 7:30pm.

squeekums · 27/01/2021 22:27

6 is too early for me
7.30 - 8 is better

work nights i have dinner between 1 and 2 am after i get home

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 27/01/2021 22:32

I just couldn’t go 7 hours without food!

I genuinely don't understand that.

If you have breakfast at 7am, that means you really can't wait until 2pm for lunch? Which is a bit late for lunch but not unreasonable.

Sometimes "lunch" has to wait until 3 or 4pm, either you are busy, or shopping - back in the pre-covid days.

Are people really that bothered about what time they eat?

Canyoncall · 27/01/2021 22:32

Wow this thread is fascinating- thanks OP!
Breakfast at 7 to 9ish here, lunch between noon and 2ish and dinner at around 8pm

IHeartTheWitcher · 27/01/2021 22:32

With DH working mostly nights and leaving at 5.15, we eat dinner at just before 5. I know this isn't the norm with both DS's telling us we're weird but it's the only way we get dinner together 🤷‍♀️

doubleshotespresso · 27/01/2021 22:32

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

Eat dinner at 11? What time do you go to bed?!

I’ve been in bed an hour by then!

Usually at about 1/2am then am awakened again by said child anytime between 3.30 nd 6am. Far from ideal but that's the best we have managed after almost a year in lockdown..... I exist and function on vast amounts of coffee throughout the day
CheesePleaz · 27/01/2021 22:34

We have supper at 6pm, 3 year old end 7 year old. If DH is home at 6 he gets it then if not it's in the oven.

When DH and I were childless we ate about 8pm.

Candyfloss99 · 27/01/2021 22:34

I dont know how anyone waits so long for their dinner. I eat mine between 5 and 5.30pm.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 27/01/2021 22:35

I am not hungry at 5pm, even my kids barely had their afternoon snacks and are not hungry either.

CorianderBee · 27/01/2021 22:38

No we usually eat at 7.30-8.30 because neither of us finishes work until 6/7

Goldieloxx · 27/01/2021 22:43

19.30 to 20.00 here, still working at 6

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 27/01/2021 22:48

It's really interesting how some people just stick to what they grew up with. It would be impossible for us to eat any earlier. I work 9:30-6 and DH works 9:00-6 I usually have a 45 minute minimum commute (WFH since March) and his is about half an hour. Our general routine is DH eats breakfast at about 8 before he goes to work, I eat mine around 9:30 at my desk. I tend to have lunch around 1pm, get home at 6:45/7, dinner at about 8pm then we go to bed at about 11:30.

BumbleFlump · 27/01/2021 22:48

Yeah it’s a weird English thing...we usually eat anytime between 6pm and 9pm - not much routine here!

EthelMerman · 27/01/2021 22:53

We don’t have set mealtimes. Lunchtime is a moveable feast, if the teens don’t get up till late as they still need to fit in breakfast and lunch before dinner, they’re at the hollow legs stage. Usually we eat around 8.30pm, or if I’m particularly disorganised, gone 9pm.

Marinaloves · 27/01/2021 22:53

It’s so bizarre and English to eat so early
Says a lot about our nation

whiteonesugar · 27/01/2021 22:53

We used to eat around 6/6.30 before kids. We’d start dinner almost immediately after getting home from work.

After having our first DS it got later and became around 8 once he was in bed.

2 DS’s and 3 lockdowns in we are eating with the kids at 5/5.30 which is really early - however it’s so nice to come down from putting them to bed and not having to start cooking!

We do sometimes eat later on if DH has been into work as he won’t get home til 6 + so it is all dependent, once we aren’t wfh all the time it’ll change again I’m sure.

Pugliandreamer · 27/01/2021 22:55

We eat at 7.30-8.30, sometimes as late as 9 depending on commitments. No children.
Before 6pm would be an early tea (with an expectation of a later meal) or a very late lunch (if I've had a late brunch) Confused

SeaShells31 · 27/01/2021 22:56

We eat with the kids, usually between 5-6.

Lovely1a2b3c · 27/01/2021 22:56

I have recently got into the habit of eating at 6-6.30pm and I do really like it- I think I used to get hangry waiting until 7/8pm!

Icenii · 27/01/2021 23:01

Dinner around 6pm. We eat with DD. We do sports after. I switched my commute job for a slight pay cut WFH role that I can tend to finish around 4pm. Much better quality of life.

PenfoldPenny · 27/01/2021 23:02

We eat between 6 30 and 7 45ish.

My mother insists that dinner time is at about 5/5 15. Its the time we ate when I was a kid and shes stuck to that routine ever since - 35 years on. Shes convinced we eat "very late"

Beautiful3 · 27/01/2021 23:03

530pm dinner time here.
