According to DP "most people" have eaten dinner by 6pm.

Referring to adults, not children.

He's obsessed with eating at a time I consider pretty early.

I'm giving him the side eye Hmm

Only if I'm eating with the toddler. No one I know who isn't eating with their young children to model table manners etc has had dinner by 6pm and even some of those don't eat with their children until after 6pm depending on when they finish work and pick their kids up from childcare.

DH downstairs cooking dinner now. Unusual for us to have sat down before 8pm. Is he Northern and this is a weird 'tea' thing??

No way. Usually bathing the baby around that time and start cooking around 7pm to eat at 730. Pre Covid, when commuting, it was rare to eat before 8. The only people I know that eat before 6pm are getting on in years...

I have dinner anywhere from 5:30 to 9pm! Just depends what else is going on, if I'm waiting til after DD is in bed or eating straight after work.

When DD had after school clubs and lessons we would feed her straight after school and we would eat late but a lot of the time we all eat together around 6pm.

Our dinner is cooking right now. The kids don't normally eat before 6.30pm these days

It's northern European rather than British. The Dutch and Scandinavians eat early I believe. It's climatic.

If I had dinner before 6pm I'd have my snout back in the trough at 10pm.

@Happytentoes

Is he a lot older than you 😁Tell him only elderly people eat before 6.
It’s generally 6.30 - 7 here.

No he's a little bit younger!

But we're both over 50 so age related jokes are permitted Grin

Dh works a week rota, 1 week finishes at 4.30pm the other 6pm. So on his early week we eat at 5.30(ish) on his lates sometimes we eat as late as 8pm. Depends how prepared I am and how ds had been that day.
If I remember correctly, dinner was alway for 7pm unless Sunday, when I still lived with mum and dad.

It depends where you live. Mf was a commuter and dh (until recently) was a commuter. Dinner at 7.30 !

Round here many, many people have dinner at 5pm Shock . In fact when the dcs went on the French exchange trip the teacher said at the parents’ meeting that French people do not eat at 5pm like people do here in Bogtown, so be prepared for that.

What do you do all evening if you eat at 5pm?! I’d eat another dinner later on!

DH doesn't usually state on dinner until about 9pm, depending on what it is, but we usually eat anywhere between 9pm and 10:30pm.

We eat at 5.30 with the kids.
That’s why I have an evening snacking problem

We have ours at 16.00, but we have a 3 year old so we do it so it works for him.

We have an 18mo old, so we eat together at 530 so he has time for a bit of play, bath, & then bed at 7 (can’t be having him poo in the tub which is what happens if he eats too late- yuck!)

We have dinner at 8.30, assuming I have got my act together and cooked it in time. Quite frequently that isn’t the case, so we eat nearer 9.

I like having mine between 8 and 9. My DP is Spanish and he never even wants to start cooking until 9 and he considers that early Hmm I grew up in a household where we had "tea" and had it between 5 and 6

My teens would want another meal if we had dinner before 6pm! Even when they were toddlers we didn't eat until 6-6.30.

My mum was fastidious about dinner in the table at 5, my dad got home from work at 4.45pm and we were home from 4pm from school. It was a shock when going to uni bc and bc working until about 6 lol

We always eat between 5 and 6 but I think we are in the minority
