To ask you to help me plan my own solo lockdown valentines day

So I am newly single after a painful break up. Lots of lovely advice on here and support got me through this first month. One stuck out which was to get to know myself and treat myself like my own date. I like this idea and thought i could treat myself to a cheesy solo valentines day. So far I'm thinking an M and S meal deal, but myself flowers and have a nice bath and use my fancy body lotion. Anything you would add? If you are into valentines day and also single, do you do anything to treat yourself?

Watch a movie or start a new tv show that you would love to see
FaceTime a friend who uplifts you
Special drink that you love
I love to read so I’d treat myself to a new book and start it too

Givemeabreak88 · 27/01/2021 18:07

Nope I’ve been single for 4 years not something I’ve ever done tbh didn’t realise it was a “thing”

crochetmonkey74 · 27/01/2021 18:10

Givemeabreak I dont think it is a thing, it just struck me as something nice I could do for myself to break up the lockdown boredom and break up sadness. Rainbow I like the book idea !

After marriage I took perverse delight in ignoring it completely and found it liberating to truly feel like it's utter bollocks.

Then I met my now ex. I was utterly smitten and even though this time last year he was having doubts and I only got a card with a nice message, he did say e was sad not to be able to see me on the day ( for genuine reasons). I feel a bit flat about being back in the scrap heap now.

Now I felt love again at my age, I really feel it's absence. But I treat myself more in general now. I buy my own flowers regularly. I also bought myself Xmas presents.

Go for it op. But be nice to yourself all the time. Not just for a dayFlowers

I'm not single but if i had a day to myself I'd;

Read a book
Watch a film
Have a long 'spa' Bath; tint brows, do nails, exfoliate, shave, moisturise, tan, pedicure
Order pasta from my local Italian restaurant
Have a few cold bottles of beer
Light some nice candles
Sleep for 8 hours straight

Buy yourself a sexy set of matching underwear, get dolled up and have a date with a rabbit 🐰

I vote duck to go with the bath.

Everyone has their preferred place though - or "setting" as I think everything has been called since March. Everything takes place in a "setting" now. Urgh

Browse Lovehoney and spend the money you would usually spend on a boyfriend's gift there.

I would also treat myself to nice chocolates and find a movie with my favourite actor in it, shirtless.

It’s just a day! I have never “celebrated” Valentine’s Day. Such commercial bollocks!

I'm not into V Day, but I do acknowledge it every year by watching a horror with a takeaway

FolkyFoxFace · 27/01/2021 19:41

When I was single, I realised I'd never had a good Valentine's Day, so decided to treat myself.

I had croissants and my favourite coffee for breakfast, which I took back to bed with me.
Opened a present (I'd bought myself a few!) which was nice body wash. Had a lovely shower.
Opened another present - nice new dress. Put that on, and took myself out for a walk into town (appreciate this can't be done at the moment). Bought some nice food to cook for dinner and had a light but fancy lunch with a glass of wine.
Back home to another present - new book. Read for a few hours. Prepped dinner (with wine).
Ran myself a lovely bath with candles and wine, another present being a bath bomb.
Got out and dried on a new towel, into new PJ's, and finished cooking dinner.
Ate it in front of the TV with a film. More wine consumed.
Before bed, one last present of a little necklace I'd ordered from Etsy.

It was amazing!

I think this was the sort of thing I meant- I'm thinking that with lockdown and just having to rebuild after break up, I like the idea of looking after and nurturing myself how you'd want a partner to. I think this day sounds amazing, I do like little presents through the day, i may do this for Christmas for myself as well. I really like your detail as well, new shower gel, new towel, new pjs. What a way to look after yourself ! I'm going to adopt this approach

FolkyFoxFace · 27/01/2021 19:52

@crochetmonkey74 Go for it! It's so nice going to sleep the night before and knowing you've got a lovely day planned, with things you actually want. That time spent entirely on your own well being is so important - and the little presents throughout the day stopped it from grinding to a halt, and acted as a really nice timeline! You definitely deserve it, I hope it works for you!
