To think I could be pregnant so soon after birth?

I had an uncomplicated birth and stopped bleeding one week after, yes both me and my partner were foolish and had unprotected sex 2 weeks exactly after DD’s arrival. 2 weeks later I thought my period had started. Sorry TMI but I had a jelly like discharge tinged with blood. It barely covered a pad but continued for about a day and a half. I had mild cramping too. Then it just stopped completely. It’s now a week and a half later since the discharge and period has not come. Has anyone else had this discharge after pregnancy or does this sound more like implantation? There is no smell or itching so the chemist has told me it doesn’t sound like an infection.

It would be vanishingly rare to ovulate at day 14 post partum. You are certainly not 'at your most fertile'

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 28/01/2021 18:47

Never understand people who are up for a shag so soon postpartum. I had a relatively straight forward VB with DS and it took months to feel up for it. Same after very smooth c section with DD.

Yokey · 28/01/2021 18:54

@Indecisive12

I don’t understand how. I was still like a car crash/horror scene down there 2 weeks postpartum.
Yep!

I have two kids in the same year who aren't twins. Grin

@WINKINGatyourage

No, you can’t possibly be pregnant after having unprotected sex during your most fertile time. Don’t be ridiculous.
'Most fertile time' - nonsense, as another poster has pointed out.

If you are not breast-feeding, you usually don't ovulate before 6 weeks; 74 days was in the average time post-partum for non-lactating mothers to ovulate.

(Of course - that's an average and there are always outliers but it's unlikely. Not impossible).

I don't have a medical background but I think once all your 'pipes' are open you are much more susceptible to this happening...

The NHS website says this

“You can get pregnant as little as 3 weeks after the birth of a baby, even if you're breastfeeding and your periods haven't started again.”

Test time OP

Meh, it was 3-4 weeks for me. Tiredness was all that stopped me before then, it wasn’t sore or uncomfortable at all. Lucky that the bleeding stopped after two weeks. We’re all different!
Daisysflowers · 28/01/2021 19:31

Entirely possible. I remember the midwife coming for her last home visit to talk about contraception for the future and saying how easily it is to get pregnant after having a baby. I had already done the deed 2 days before on day 12 🙈
Her face was a picture when I had to admit it Grin

TronaldDrump · 28/01/2021 20:08

There's exactly 10 months and 1 week between me and my DSis. Take a test.

Serin · 28/01/2021 20:10

Blush There's just 12 months between our 2 youngest. I was still BF as well. Luckily, whilst not exactly "planned" we were thrilled.

mamaoffourdc · 28/01/2021 20:10

Yep 13 months between mine

IMightCry · 28/01/2021 20:13

@mamaoffourdc

Yep 13 months between mine
Same!
Kittykat93 · 28/01/2021 20:15

Why did u have unprotected sex though? Surely as a grown woman you know there will be a possibility it would get you pregnant? Take responsibility ffs

Cinderellashoes · 28/01/2021 20:15

Do a test to put your mind at rest.

Also did you not have stitches? My fanjo was still stitched up at day 14 Grin

Toomanyparsnips · 28/01/2021 20:15

Why are people being so aggressive?
There's a small possibility, but it's unlikely you'll have ovulated yet and it's just as likely to be a hormonal thing or discharge from an unhealed birth injury. Good luck either way.

PlinkPlink · 28/01/2021 20:20

2 weeks?!

Wow

Mine was out of action for a good 8 weeks. Mind you, dd was just under 10lb so you'd expect it really.

Yes

Get a test. Insanely fertile after birth.

Wtfmayte · 28/01/2021 20:21

I doubt op will update after all this ridicule.

KenAddams · 28/01/2021 20:30

11 months between my two can happen 😂😂

3JsMa · 28/01/2021 20:58

Some commentsHmm
If you have regular cycles (around 28 days)before pregnancy it will be highly unlikely to ovulate 2 weeks after birth,even with pp bleeding finishing just a week after.
The ''jelly like'' discharge may be still a bit of lochia(post birth discharge).
If you are EBF it is also preventing ovulation in most cases.
I wouldn't worry too much but do a test if that will help.

WatchWatch · 28/01/2021 21:11

As no-one has sited sources, I will reiterate my earlier statement- you cannot get pregnant 14 days from birth! 17 days is the earliest ovulation- 3 days for your hormones to recede and then 13 days for an egg to ripen!

17 days, possibly, 28 days definitely. 6 weeks, practically common!

And yes I can site my sources but you need a bmj log in to access them.

If anyone can give me a more up to date source (mine is 1991) with different info I'm all ears- I have access to all the medical journals!

LakieLady · 28/01/2021 21:20

@Ileflottante

You are SO fertile after birth. Of course you can be. It really surprises me that people don’t seem to know that?!

My midwife talked to me about contraception and opened it by saying “unless you fancy explaining why you have two kids in the same school year who aren’t twins?” 😱

I never knew this! But then I've never been pregnant, so it was never on my need to know list.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed that you were up for a shag just 2 weeks after popping a whole new human out of your vaj, OP. I'm sure I'd have been walking bandy until the child was at least school age.

LizFlowers · 28/01/2021 21:23

Take a test for goodness sakes and put your mind at rest.
