To think I could be pregnant so soon after birth?

I had an uncomplicated birth and stopped bleeding one week after, yes both me and my partner were foolish and had unprotected sex 2 weeks exactly after DD’s arrival. 2 weeks later I thought my period had started. Sorry TMI but I had a jelly like discharge tinged with blood. It barely covered a pad but continued for about a day and a half. I had mild cramping too. Then it just stopped completely. It’s now a week and a half later since the discharge and period has not come. Has anyone else had this discharge after pregnancy or does this sound more like implantation? There is no smell or itching so the chemist has told me it doesn’t sound like an infection.

Well you obviously know how babies are made...it won't be much of a surprise becoming pregnant after having unprotected sex.
Best get a test!

TheKeatingFive · 28/01/2021 13:01

Of course you could be, but I suspect it’s unlikely you ovulated so quickly after birth.

Get a test to put your mind at rest.

Markies · 28/01/2021 13:33

What, wait a minute. Sex is how you get pregnant. Wow - you learn something new everyday don’t you 🤣

BrumBoo · 28/01/2021 13:38

@Norwayreally

It’s actually a myth that you’re more fertile just after giving birth. If you breastfeed it’s unlikely you’re fertile at all but even if you FF, the majority of women don’t ovulate for at least 6 weeks postpartum. Of course it’s possible that you defied this and ovulated a fortnight after you gave birth so you should test but it’s a long-standing myth that women are ‘more fertile’ after giving birth.
It's not impossible though. When I had my 6-8 week check up with the doctor after my second, I described a weird 'second wave of bleeding 4 weeks after giving birth' to her. She said it was very likely my period, which was very surprising considering I was fully breastfeeding (a hungry baby at that). She gave me the pill there and then....
WINKINGatyourage · 28/01/2021 13:43

It’s entirely possible.

10 months between my dad and his sister. 9 months between two sisters in my year at school.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/01/2021 14:52

Yes known this many times

I’m a mn and had several families have children 10mths apart

Some same school year. Some thankfully not as July and sept birthday so oldest and youngest in year

Obv only way you will know is do a test

SunbathingDragon · 28/01/2021 14:55

Completely going against everyone else but I remember from medical training (paramedic) being told by a doctor the earliest on record was 17 days after birth for a woman to ovulate so I’d say you aren’t pregnant. But use contraception from now. Even if you want another baby, just give you body a chance to recover.

But ten months difference still means it’s six weeks after giving birth (assuming the second baby was born on their due date) for ovulation/conception to take place.
ComDummings · 28/01/2021 14:59

I knew siblings who were 8 months apart in age. Different school years though, one was i my year, the other in the year below.

ComDummings · 28/01/2021 14:59

Younger child was premature, obviously.

Imkindreally · 28/01/2021 15:03

10months between 2 of my dc Blush fertility doctor had said to not leave too long before trying again ... he probably didn’t that fast

PinkDaffodil2 · 28/01/2021 15:20

I’d go against most PP and say that it would be incredibly unlikely for you to ovulate by 14 days post partum, and most clinics wouldn’t offer you the morning after pill within 3 weeks of birth as it’s not necessary. Most women don’t ovulate for 6 weeks or so even if not breastfeeding.
Sperm can live for 5 days and it’s possible you could ovulate at day 19, but very unlikely you’d get pregnant under the circumstances.
Get a test though to be sure, it’s not impossible but you’re not ‘super fertile’ at day 14 by any measure.

PinkDaffodil2 · 28/01/2021 15:24

Siblings born 10 months apart is totally different and very likely if not using contraception - that would mean ovulating at 6 weeks post partum which is very standard if you formula feed, not 2 weeks that OP was.

WatchWatch · 28/01/2021 15:36

It is impossible to get pregnant for 17 days after birth. After that, it is possible but very unlikely until at least 21 days post-partum. For most women, it isn't possible for 28 days after birth.

Either way, take a test.

Untrue.

OP you definitely could be pregnant.

10 month gaps are not unusual.

Updatemate · 28/01/2021 15:55

Sorry, pressed send to soon!

Please site your sources. I know average in non-lactating women is 6 weeks and I know it can happen earlier but not how early.

ladycarlotta · 28/01/2021 15:57

reiterating that yes, you certainly could get pregnant.

And that having sex when you have a quite fresh wound inside you is not advisable in terms of avoiding infection.

But your period might well be all over the place especially if you are breastfeeding. So I wouldn't necessarily expect to be regular. You need to take a test really.

ThatchersCold · 28/01/2021 16:12

I had a period exactly one month after the birth of both of my DCs, so presume I ovulated 2 weeks ish prior to that. And that was despite 100% breastfeeding. Lucky old me.

Hellothere19999 · 28/01/2021 16:12

I hope you like not sleeping if you are preggo OP. 13 months between my sister and I, not quite 2 weeks tho! She is my best pal and my mum could always leave us to it.

LAgeDeRaisin · 28/01/2021 16:13

POAS and report back

Indecisive12 · 28/01/2021 16:28

I don’t understand how. I was still like a car crash/horror scene down there 2 weeks postpartum.

Pukkatea · 28/01/2021 16:38

Is it not most likely that you still have some injury from birth, possibly aggravated by having sex, that has led to a bit of bleeding?

Living6767 · 28/01/2021 17:30

Yes it’s definitely possible I got pregnant six weeks after my first child was born.
