Drugs. Be honest..

Inspired by the white bag thread, it just got me curious. I’m not a journo! Although, I suppose that’s what a journalist would say.. Grin

Have you / do you take drugs? What did you take and why did you?

I’ll be honest and go first, I occassinally use MDMA and I do use coke on nights. But I don’t have kids and I’d stop as soon as I was having them

Nope saw what happened to a family member who started with a bit of weed then progressed to hard drugs.
He's currently in prison.

Oysterbabe · 25/01/2021 19:56

I smoked weed now and again at university. Now I realise that people who use drugs are cunts who put their own fun above the fact that they are funding people trafficking and murder.

ConfusedcomMum · 25/01/2021 19:56

@VestaTilley

No. Never.

I think drug taking is pathetic.

Same. Grew up in London near 2 rival drug gangs. One really nice neighbour was murdered whilst protecting their preteen drug dealing sibling. Another neighbour's car got torched and yet another stabbed on our street. But as long as the punters with the money got their fix right?

People don't tend to shit on their doorstep.

Lelophants · 25/01/2021 19:56

Nope. Was never in that kind of crowd at uni and the fear thing worked on me as a teen.

So so glad. Im bad enough with chocolate.

AdoraBell · 25/01/2021 19:57

Never. I can’t see the appeal to be honest.

Changechangychange · 25/01/2021 19:57

@MalorieSnooty

I have undiagnosed autism and was a HORRIFICALLY anxious and depressed child (masked the entire time, I was a complete wreck).

At uni, I was persuaded by an ex to try MDMA on a night out and, honestly, it was like someone had switched a light on.

I only did it a few times but it changed me. I don't get anxious anymore and am very happy go lucky.

DH says the same. No autism, but a long history of anxiety and depression. He says when he took MDMA, it was the first time he didn’t feel that underlying sense of fear that he had just completely normalised. He realised how everybody else feels.

Still anxious! That is just him. But far more willing to see the positive side of things now.

We have both aged out of drug now. Last took anything in my early 30s. I don’t regret it, I just don’t really have a venue for taking it any more. Like I don’t really get drunk any more. Those big nights out and festivals stop when you have kids.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/01/2021 19:57

OP - I think it all depends on how old you are. Everyone I know (afaik) has used drugs of some kind but everyone I know is in their 40s and 50s now so mostly doesn't any more (still got a few persistent occasional weed smokers in amongst my friends but very few).

I think people in their 20s and 30s now have no idea of the extent of drug use in the generation immediately above them, let alone their grandparents.

DioneTheDiabolist · 25/01/2021 19:57

I don’t think anyone suggested it was a victimless crime did they?no but anyone who indulges in drugs is clearly quite happy to fund human trafficking, to be a part of a network who traffic women as prostitutes and make them addicted to drugs so they have no choice but to sell themselves for their dealers.
You can’t be a druggy and a feminist for instance...
What a load of ignorant bollocks.Hmm

GalesThisMorning · 25/01/2021 19:59

Yes. I've tried and enjoyed most drugs with the exception of heroin. Drugs are fun when you're young! I'm sorry, but they are. Less fun as you get older and the come downs become more and more horrific.

I second the poster who secretly feels bad for people who missed out!

I shared a couple of joints at uni, more than 25 years ago. Nothing since. There have been times in the last few months when I've thought it would be nice to have that mellow feeling again, but I tend to stick to alcohol and crisps.

carlaCox · 25/01/2021 20:01

I think you need to be specific about what drugs you're talking about here. Some people grow weed for personal use at home. In my old house I had magic mushrooms growing wild in my back garden!

Onesailwait · 25/01/2021 20:01

[quote nancybotwinbloom]@AlternativePerspective

Not everyone

Some people only buy from trusted growers of cannabis. Who they know personally.
Who grow to demand for them and maybe a few friends.

Not everyone is a drugs baron.

This is very true. I buy my weed from the government, pay tax on it too. Pretty sure it's a legit source

fairynick · 25/01/2021 20:01

Used to see a stoner so smoked the odd spliff then, and occasionally with mates but never bought it for myself kind of thing.
Did pills a few times, at festivals, raves etc. Again only when other people were getting some, I never planned to before the night.
All of that was as a teenager.
Did coke a few times in my early twenties, again at parties when people offered a line or a key. Not the type of person to suggest getting a bag for a night out.
Guess drugs for me were never something I ever craved or planned to take before a night out (apart from alcohol), but they are fun so when offered I took part.

Givemeabreak88 · 25/01/2021 20:02

I’ve never tried any drugs and I’m 32 I think that’s quite rare it seems! I never would either, really not my thing!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 25/01/2021 20:02

Absolutely not,no.through work I’ve seen some dreadful outcomes, heartbreak & trauma
I don’t drink, don’t do too much caffeine,I’m careful what I eat, don’t smoke so drugs absolutely not
Plus, I know the human costs involved in drug trafficking. The exploitation. The vulnerable people who use, vulnerable folk whose homes are cuckooed, the impact upon communities of gangs going country aka county lines.
People don’t want to associate their few lines or tokes with organised crime, it is a denial to disassociate self from crime. Sanitised drug use

LostFrog · 25/01/2021 20:03

Yes a fair bit in my teens and 20s - ecstasy, coke, speed etc. Gave up 15 years ago before having children and would never touch anything since being a mum. Don’t regret it at all from a health point of view but am uncomfortable now with the idea of funding other crime etc which never occurred to me at the time.

FastFood · 25/01/2021 20:03

Cannabis as a teenager but hated it.
Coke three, maybe four times. Not massively impressed.
MDMA twice. Really loved it but never felt the need to do it again.

My things were alcohol and cigarettes, quit both (still vaping though)

letsnotscaretheneighbours · 25/01/2021 20:03

Rave scene in mid-late 90s here. In my youth I did shed loads of drugs, ecstasy, speed, ketamin, magic mushrooms, lsd, cocaine, cannabis basically everything apart from heroin.

Never really thought of the consequences, now I'd never even consider it but you live and learn.

Not my thing any more.
Gave up early 20s before children and never used again.

missrm · 25/01/2021 20:03

E, mdma and poppers when young.

Occasionally take cocodamol for a buzz

MacDuffsMuff · 25/01/2021 20:04

No, not for me.

I worked in a drug counselling clinic many years ago. I wouldn't touch them.

SpnBaby1967 · 25/01/2021 20:04

No, never. Never even had a cigarette.

I'm dealing with a case right now of a 66 year old lady who is receiving death threats and having her car vandalised because she assisted the Police in nailing her next door neighbour drug dealer. How anyone can take drugs knowing the kind of criminal underworld they're supporting I'll never know.

Not to mention cannabis smells, it smells so much worse than cigarettes and for the neighbours of those who smell it, it really does ruin their enjoyment of their home. Cigarette smell at least doesnt seem to eminate as far as that sickly sweet smell of cannabis does.

If you smoke cannabis and either have kids sleeping in your home, or know your neighbours have kids, I think you're disgustingly selfish.

ZaphodBeeblerox · 25/01/2021 20:04

Weed twice, in my late twenties / early thirties. I HATED being out of control and high. I’m an anxiety-prone person and I just went to a deep dark place. Tried it the second time with safe company to see if it was the random people I did it with the first time that led to a bad trip. Never done anything stronger. Have enjoyed getting tipsy regularly when I was younger - and used to smoke fairly regularly too. But not anymore. I do enjoy an occasional cocktail now but have spent years pregnant or breastfeeding so that too is a mostly distant memory.

vangoghing · 25/01/2021 20:05

Have smoked weed and tried coke approximately twice - neither agree with me, but sadly became a rampant alcoholic instead

luckylavender · 25/01/2021 20:06

No
