Wrong item sent

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:00

I ordered a blue jumper, got sent a red one.

The company are saying I have to send back the red one before I can have my blue one...does that sound right?

AIBU to think that they should be sending out the item I actually ordered and I'll get the other one back to them when I'm next at the post office. Doesn't seem right that I have to wait.

They seem more concerned about me getting the wrong item back to them than they do me getting what I actually ordered.

It's such a ballache. I just wanted my jumper Sad .

I work for an online retailer. Unless the item is extremely low value and the boss says it's ok for the customer to keep the wrong item sent out, it is perfectly normal for the customer to return the incorrect item (at our expense, of course) before we post out the right item.

I'm not sure how quickly you would be returning the red jumper if you want to avoid taking your children to the post office. You won't be able to avoid that for weeks, surely?

They made the error, why should you be inconvenienced and possibly put yourself at risk of catching covid for their mistake.

They should arrange a courier to collect the incorrect item while delivering the correct one. It's really not hard.

Which company is it?

I agree with this.

If companies make an error then they’ve always arranged a courier to collect the item. Or they’ve told me to keep it, depending on price.

I haven’t been to a shop or post office since March, I wouldn’t be starting now due to a company’s error! I’m surprised that people think you should out of your way and increase your risk of catching covid for this.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 25/01/2021 17:09

YANBU

They have fucked up by sending the wrong (red) jumper.

They should arrange to either collect the wrong (red) jumper or for you to send it back with no cost to you.

They shouldn't charge you postage for the (replacement) blue jumper as they made the error.

That said, I'd be tempted to send the lot back as they are so incompetent (and I get too warm in jumpers Grin )

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:09

I hadn't planned on going at all though. And whilst it's not impossible it's a pain in my arse that I don't deserve.

OP posts:
NuniaBeeswax · 25/01/2021 17:10

So you want another jumper sent out and you'll return the other one whenever... Which could be never, and so you get a free jumper?

HighSpecWhistle · 25/01/2021 17:10

@BunTooti

Yes! Thank you. I don't understand how it's my problem. If I made the mistake I'd hae to sort it but they made the mistake and I still have to sort it Confused . And they know I will if I want my jumper.
I'd return it and buy a jumper from someone else. Or ask for a voucher as a way of thanks for you going to the post office (to rectify their mistake).
luxxlisbon · 25/01/2021 17:12

@BunTooti

At this point it is starting to sound like you just want the new one sent out without having to return this one at all since you seem so hellbent on not wanting to go to the post office to send it back.

It is annoying but hardly the end of the world and the small risk that exists with online shopping. Even if you received the right one you might not have liked it and would have to go to the post office to send it back in that situation too.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:13

@NuniaBeeswax well no, because I'm not a dick and I really do look shit in red.
I want the item I ordered, the rest isn't important.

OP posts:
BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:14

@luxxlisbon ah but I already said I know I'm going to have to do it.

NuniaBeeswax · 25/01/2021 17:19

" well no, because I'm not a dick and I really do look shit in red.

Well, yes though. What business in their right mind would just take someone's word for it that they'll send it back "sometime"?

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:19

A business that made a mistake.

OP posts:
IntermittentParps · 25/01/2021 17:19

YANBU. It's shite service and they're adding insult to injury.
I'd be tempted to say, 'OK, I'll send it back, but I just want a refund, you've been so unhelpful.' I'm a bolshy baggage though

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:24

I might @IntermittentParps . The jumper is tainted! Love bolshy baggage Grin

OP posts:
NuniaBeeswax · 25/01/2021 17:25

"A business that made a mistake."

🙄 What's your point? That doesn't mean you shouldn't have to return it. Tell them to send a courier to collect it if it's really that much of an inconvenience. Or do you really expect to be compensated with a free jumper for the emotional damage of getting one in the wrong colour?

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:25

If it had been any other colour I probably would've kept it and moved on with my life Hmm

OP posts:
IntermittentParps · 25/01/2021 17:26

NuniaBeeswax, the OP doesn't say she's not going to return it. She just wants the thing she ordered, and she'll send back the wrong thing when she can. It's not good customer service to hold the right item to ransom.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:27

I think you're reading someone else's posts @NuniaBeeswax .
I'm going to return it. I have no choice if I want my jumper. It doesn't make it less annoying though.

OP posts:
rwalker · 25/01/2021 17:30

Honestly the majority of people would just keep the 2nd one or lie and said they had sent it back .

my thoughts and prays are with you at this difficult time

NoSquirrels · 25/01/2021 17:31

Isn't there usually a returns form in the package, that has all these boxes to tick that say why you're returning it? And one of those is usually "Incorrect item ordered" or similar?

If you buy online, for your convenience, you also have to accept that if you need to send something back, it can be a bit inconvenient. Swings and roundabouts, eh.

I think you are too used to Amazon who are so huge they CBA with the return most of the time and just send a new one. That's actually not normal customer service, even if you'd like it to be.

1FootInTheRave · 25/01/2021 17:31

Yanbu at all.

Ridiculous that folk this you are tbh.

This is their mistake. Followed up by shit customer service.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:32

@rwalker I just hope they'll be enough to get me through.

OP posts:
NuniaBeeswax · 25/01/2021 17:33

" the OP doesn't say she's not going to return it. She just wants the thing she ordered, and she'll send back the wrong thing when she can. It's not good customer service to hold the right item to ransom"

And it's total stupidity to run a business based on this kind of system. "When she can" for a lot of people would be "never". Nothing is being "held hostage".

OP your opening post literally asks if it's "right" that they want you to send out the red jumper before they send the blue one which mind of implies you weren't expecting to have to do so...

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:34

@NuniaBeeswax the keyword being 'before'.

OP posts:
NuniaBeeswax · 25/01/2021 17:34

Or held to ransom even.
