Wrong item sent

I ordered a blue jumper, got sent a red one.

The company are saying I have to send back the red one before I can have my blue one...does that sound right?

AIBU to think that they should be sending out the item I actually ordered and I'll get the other one back to them when I'm next at the post office. Doesn't seem right that I have to wait.

They seem more concerned about me getting the wrong item back to them than they do me getting what I actually ordered.

It's such a ballache. I just wanted my jumper Sad .

red herring I see what you did there... Wink

It’s annoying to be sure, but that is generally how it works. Some places do go above and beyond but it’s not something you can expect as a given, for obvious reasons really. But I do appreciate that it’s a pain.

Flowers I hope you’ll manage to have a lovely day on your birthday!

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:35

Thank you @Ninkanink
It's going to be rubbish and I can't even wear my new jumper Grin !

@BunTooti

Plus I'm going to have to take my kids in to the post office which I really don't want to do.
You can arrange home collection by Royal Mail et al.
BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:36

@LIZS ooh interesting. Do they give you a receipt?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 25/01/2021 16:38

A photograph doesnt mean much. You could have bought the red one in a previous order, or been given it as a gift. Then bought the blue one because you liked the jumper so much. And then just sent them a photo of the red one and told them they sent the wrong colour, when actually, you have both and just fancy another blue one for your sister or something.

Obviously you're not doing that, but people do. For loss prevention, you need to send back the wrong one and they will send out the right one.

Mistakes happens. You can dig your heels in and refuse to cooperate or you can just send it back and get it sorted.

LIZS · 25/01/2021 16:40

www.royalmail.com/collection - think you get a tracking number

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:40

Obviously I'm going to have to get it sent back ASAP if I want my jumper, I get that...and so do they.
Just wondered if this was normal practice. It seems poo. Especially from a big company.

I agree. I get all my clothes from ASOS and they always send the right thing straight away if they make a mistake. I appreciate they are a huge company though.

I think your right to be annoyed. Hope you have a nice birthday if you can.

Yes it’s normal practice. Being a big company doesn’t mean they should have to take loss risks.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:46

I guess I genuinely expected them to say "oops, sorry about that, we'll get the right one out to you and we'd appreciate if you could send the wrong one back". That seems like the way it should be done when it's their mistake.

OP posts:
Whatamesssss · 25/01/2021 16:46

YANBU

They made the error, why should you be inconvenienced and possibly put yourself at risk of catching covid for their mistake.

They should arrange a courier to collect the incorrect item while delivering the correct one. It's really not hard.

Which company is it?

gamerchick · 25/01/2021 16:48

Christ, send it back or learn to like red. It's such a none issue OP.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 16:48

I look shit in red though.

Yanbu. It is shoddy service. Who did you buy it from?

Therarestone · 25/01/2021 16:56

Would you walk into a shop and expect them to replace something if you hadn't brought the original on the promise that you'd bring it back later.

HighSpecWhistle · 25/01/2021 16:57

YANBU. The same happened to me. I ordered my dad some shoes and got a women's pair of trainers instead. They sent out the shoes so now have both (which is fine) but they want me to send back the trainers.

I've told them they can collect if they wish as I don't want the trainers anyway - but I'm not going to a post office heavily pregnant with high Covid rates around to rectify their mistake. They keep contacting me asking me to return even though I've explained that I'm not going to at the moment and it's their choice if they arrange collection or not (numerous couriers have doorstep collect now).

Same with yours. They should definitely send the jumper to you and then work together to get the jumper sent back to them. It's THEIR error.

HighSpecWhistle · 25/01/2021 16:58

Yes if they sold you the wrong item! How is this OPs problem?
Whichnamepls · 25/01/2021 16:59

I totally agree with you OP.

Yes it’s normal practice. Being a big company doesn’t mean they should have to take loss risks.

But it's THEIR error. Their loss due to their process failure.
Fieldofyellowflowers · 25/01/2021 17:02

Yep, the company made a mistake in sending you the wrong jumper. But thanks to loads of dimwit arseholes, they can't just take your word for it that you will send the red jumper back once you have received the blue one. It is not shit customer service. It is the company's way of making sure that someone doesn't get two jumpers for the price of one.

TTCat39 · 25/01/2021 17:03

@BunTooti - Royal Mail now do a Parcel Collect service where they pick it up from your house. Could you do that instead of taking the kids to the P.O? There are also parcel postboxes in some locations, if you're able to buy and print postage online.

BunTooti · 25/01/2021 17:03

Yes! Thank you. I don't understand how it's my problem. If I made the mistake I'd hae to sort it but they made the mistake and I still have to sort it Confused .
And they know I will if I want my jumper.

campista · 25/01/2021 17:06

Exactly what Whatamess and Highspec said. I am ordering online for my convenience, not my inconvenience!
