To let the kids play out at 8am on a Sunday?

There's snow! It won't stick around for long, it's forecast to turn to rain in the next hour and is already starting to disappear. I let the kids out to build a snowman and play from 8, they were nagging from 6:30. They're aren't screaming but are laughing and making general playing noise. They are 3 and 5. It's lovely to see them having a bit of excitement and something different in their bored locked down lives. Is this unreasonable on the neighbours? We live in a private cul de sac with 10 other houses.
Are there really people who would want to deny small children the chance of a little bit of fun? We're usually very good neighbours and snow is a very infrequent occurrence here.

@HauntedPencil

'By society'
Don't be obtuse.
As I said in my post, I don't conform to the 'norm' of going to bed before midnight, but I can still grasp that is the generally excepted 'norm' even though it isn't what I do.
IKnowWhat has given further examples as well.

One of my neighbours gets up at about 5.30 and is in bed by 8pm. She is aware that she is 'out of sync' with what most other people do. Which is no issue at all - free country, do whatever suits you - but she doesn't pretend that she doesn't know that most people prefer to get up later than that, go to bed later than that, and - if of working age - have a bit of a lie in at the weekends, on the whole.

DenisetheMenace · 25/01/2021 22:57

Would depend on my neighbours: if I knew someone worked a late shift, for example, would try to wait until at least 9.
Wouldn’t worry about older, retired neighbours too much though, most of ours are up much earlier.

HauntedPencil · 25/01/2021 22:58

Taking this thread as an example of society as a whole then the vast majority of people have. I issue with a child playing our early on a rare occasion

Plenty of people in my street are up and about on Sunday mornings, it's not the 1950s any more.

Norwayreally · 25/01/2021 23:01

Personally would wait until 9 at the weekend. We’re mindful of neighbours because most are retired or have teens so not many are up early at the weekend (curtains seem to be closed in the majority of houses until at least 10 on a Sunday!).

@Bookwords

Who accepts that Sunday mornings are quieter *@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer* ?

Gone are those days, shops open, hairdressers open, barbers open, parcel deliveries.

Maybe in the 1959s, but not now!

Glad you took your kids out at they managed to enjoy the snow. Fingers crossed it snows again on Sunday!

complete bollocks, none of the shops have the same opening hours on Sundays, if they open at all.

Even Supermarkets with the most extended hours.

(Pre-covid) most of London was completely dead early Sunday mornings. So dead, I could even drive to work and park! Not a chance to even consider that during the week.

You are not being "modern" because you have no manners. See how back to the "50s" you will be when someone tells you to suck up the noise at a time that inconvenience you!

maddy68 · 25/01/2021 23:15

No. Very inconsiderate

Newchances · 25/01/2021 23:19

Snow makes everything ok. Rules out the window. Dp is d a teacher and part of today's lesson was to have fun in the snow. we have no kids but understand people.are making the most ofit, we also went a walk before dps morning lessons

Gosh you're a very angry and unpleasant person @Iknowwhatudidlastsummer !

To cheer you a little

What's the difference between snowmen and snow women..... snow balls!

Loads of shops and businesses and deliveries are open Sunday's at the Oh so early time of 8am.

It's life and it's not going to stop for you.

Glad to see the VAST majority of posters are not so frosty as you.

Get your beauty sleep some other time.

gingerbiscuits · 26/01/2021 09:30

I'd say inconsiderate on a normal Sunday but totally fine on a snow day!! Any neighbours that are miserable about kids enjoying a rare play in the snow need to get a grip!!

you do realise it's possible to disagree with you without being angry about it? You make funny - and completely wrong - comments.

But do tell us WHERE your local shops are open at 8am for example, because it's not London, Greater London or the South East.

I have decent neighbours, and none of us make noise at ridiculous hours, so I have quite a happy life, and so do they! Wink

Let me just quote you

The irony of you calling me angry 😂.

PugInTheHouse · 26/01/2021 10:50

NU because of the snow, normal circumstances YWBU

Confused

you are a grown-up, must you be "angry" to use the word bollocks? I wasn't even aware that was a thing. To prevent any confusion: I can use bollocks, or fuck, even when I am NOT angry Grin

Bookwords · 26/01/2021 13:08

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer have an early night, you sound tired and overwrought with the possibility of children playing out at 8am on a shock horror Sunday!

The whole country is geared up to everyone lying in on a Sunday.......
It really isn't 🤷‍♀️

As previous PP said it's give and take, kids wanted to play in the snow, then let them.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 26/01/2021 13:19

you still haven't come back telling us where YOU live, because once again, all shops (let alone banks, hair dressers, soft plays...) in MY area are not opened at 8am on a Sunday...
Even commuters trains run a Sunday service which tends to start much later than on week days.

But feel free to make nonsensical statements just to trying to prove a point when you are wrong if you live around here Wink No one has said that every country in the world has Sundays off either...

Bookwords · 26/01/2021 13:54

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer I live in South London, loads of ships open 6-10 EVERY SINGLE DAY of the week.

You must know it's only shops over a certain size that have restricted hours on a Sunday?

Every local shop is open on Sunday's like any other day.

The reason you can drive through London on a Sunday is because offices are shut.

And this country (England) does not have Sunday's off !

Bookwords · 26/01/2021 14:01

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer opening times for Sainsburys local Putney attached. HTH?

To let the kids play out at 8am on a Sunday?

There are loads of shops in my area that can open on Sundays, and currently, quite a number do. The local corner shops selling all sorts are definitely open at 8am on a Sunday. This is East Midlands.
HauntedPencil · 26/01/2021 14:12

I'm not going to tell an angry obsessed rando on the internet where I live thanks

Bookwords · 26/01/2021 14:17

Don't worry @HauntedPencil, I'm not that gullible that I told the random where I actually lived! But it served its purpose to show that lo and behold the shops are open!

because "London" would be too revealing obviously Grin

no one cares where you live!

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 26/01/2021 14:30

my local petrol station are opened too Hmm that's completely irrelevant

In summary, you think the world should turn around your little habits and have no respect for neighbours. Again, I am glad I don't live anywhere people like you.

And my own neighbours are grateful too. Competitive annoyance makes posters miserable, you just have to see how angry and frustrated some posters are getting 😂

If anyone non-British is interested, which I doubt, you can easily google train timetables/tube timetables/ all the London shops timetables. Sunday IS a thing in England.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/01/2021 14:41

Normally yes. On a snow day all bets are off - especially if you live in a part of the country where it's a rarity...

Bookwords · 26/01/2021 14:41

@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer that's large stores not on the high street stores! You must know it's smaller shops that are open? The ones that tend to be where people live and not on off site shopping estates where people don't live.

The large ones don't disturb anyone because they're not in residential area, so they're not relevant anyway.
