To let the kids play out at 8am on a Sunday?

There's snow! It won't stick around for long, it's forecast to turn to rain in the next hour and is already starting to disappear. I let the kids out to build a snowman and play from 8, they were nagging from 6:30. They're aren't screaming but are laughing and making general playing noise. They are 3 and 5. It's lovely to see them having a bit of excitement and something different in their bored locked down lives. Is this unreasonable on the neighbours? We live in a private cul de sac with 10 other houses.
Are there really people who would want to deny small children the chance of a little bit of fun? We're usually very good neighbours and snow is a very infrequent occurrence here.

Agree with others, normally no, but it's snow!!! Of course 8am is not too early!

ConfusedcomMum · 24/01/2021 09:42

Forget children, round here I've seen young adults play snowfights in the middle of the night in the past (maybe because we hardly get snow here!). No one bats an eyelid.

Imiss2019 · 24/01/2021 09:44

Normally I’d say it’s too early but given the current state of life I’d say grab every bit of joy you can!

Same4Walls · 24/01/2021 09:48

@Oysterbabe

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. They've had a lovely time, built a very impressive snowman and covered eachother in snow. They're back in now and warming up with some porridge. They didn't shout and screech so hopefully didn't disturb anyone too much.
So glad they had such a lovley time. Smile

Ahh that’s so nice to read 😀

ViewsAreMine · 24/01/2021 09:55

Oh enjoy OP!! Sounds like much fun. We're still waiting for the snow to arrive here.

zigaziga · 24/01/2021 10:10

No time is too early for snow.

Totally jealous by the way. We were promised snow today, it hasn’t materialised yet.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 24/01/2021 10:13

Presumably you are in your own garden and keeping them relatively quiet. Different if you know one neighbour has worked nights etc or they are being really noisy.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/01/2021 10:27

I might have waited until nearer 9am but honestly wouldn’t complain about two kiddies having fun in the snow 😊

peak2021 · 24/01/2021 11:15

I assume you'll be out again this afternoon, OP?

Keratinsmooth · 24/01/2021 11:16

We went out at about 830am, saw loads of families and excited dogs. Magical

ConfusedcomMum · 24/01/2021 11:23

We're just getting our snow right now in my part of London. Feel like a kid again! Smile

Soundbyte · 24/01/2021 11:25

I managed to keep my three year old in until 8, and she was such an angel being patient from seeing the snow when she woke at 6.30 and so excited when she finally got out there I would have flipped my lid if anyone so much as looked at her the wrong way, which is most unlike me. Snow changes everything!

SlopesOff · 24/01/2021 11:25

@Camphillgirl

Retired and older people get up early so don’t worry and they love the sounds of children’s voices. Go for it and let them have some fun.
No they don't. They like to catch up on their sleep after a shit week/life.

They do like to see children playing in snow though, just a bit later.

Same4Walls · 24/01/2021 11:30

It was 8am that's not exactly early. Plus it'a not like you can just ask the snow to stick around until lunchtime so you can play in it then just incase you upsrt your neighbours.

Any way the kids had fun and I'm sure none of the OPs neighbours actually cared. They were probably just as excited by the snow as the kids.

HildegardNightingale · 24/01/2021 11:39

There where kids outside playing snowball fights yesterday. I was out walking the dog. They were eyeing me up as a potential target and I overheard one say ‘no she’s too old’, so I initiated the snowball fight.

I got completely defeated. Poor kids can’t be having much fun these days.

Brefugee · 24/01/2021 11:54

I took my boys out around 8, we've just got in. Walking past some houses I said, 'remember not to be too loud' to which teenage ds replied 'mum I hate being woken up early, but its snowing, that changes everything, you can't be grumpy when it's snowy'

we have to work, not from home, and are up at 5am every day. If some fucking arse woke me up before 9am on a weekend they would feel the sharp edge of my tongue. And if i knew where they lived i might feel inclined to hang on their doorbell a bit on my way to work.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 24/01/2021 11:59

It's one day, it's snowing! We never get snow that sticks. As long as they're not screeching it's fine. And if anyone gave me "the edge of their sharp tongue" Hmm or shouted at my kids they'd be getting the same back! 8am isn't exactly stupidly early by anyone's standards!

Spacie · 24/01/2021 12:07

I didn't open my curtains until gone 9am and there was already a 6 foot snowman in the drive opposite. I didn't hear a thing Grin

aSofaNearYou · 24/01/2021 12:11

I agree with others, normally it's too early but I wouldn't think twice about it on a snow day.

It's pretty much gone now.

We have had snow for the last week so you would be unreasonable where we are. That being said I don't mind kids laughing and playing at any time of day, we live on a new build estate so it is common to see kids making snowmen and sledging. Ours have been out every day this week but after breakfast.

Heartofstrings · 24/01/2021 12:16

We had snow this morning. Quiet cul de sac - my kids at 3 and 4 are the youngest. We were out at 8 and back in at 9. I had 2 texts from retired neighbours saying it was lovely to watch us playing outside. Hopefully I didnt annoying anyone!

yellowperil40 · 24/01/2021 12:18

Sadly we haven't had snow, just rain and bad ice.

If we did me and the kids would def be out in it at that time of the morning.
