I suddenly feel conflicted about whether I’m a feminist or not!

@AStudyinPink

“Serve”? Like, serve dinner? Or like, serve your master?
I think it’s meant as in “serve your master” because “slaves” has been tossed in there too for maximum offensiveness.

Femininsm is not free choice to do what you want,just because you want it
Feminism is a political ideology that challenges and wants to erase patriarchy and it’s structures. If you’re supporting and enacting patriarchy by your behaviour and beliefs you’re not supporting feminism

Feminism seeks political & social equality for women,and to challenge patriarchy and it’s structures

@ShastaBeast

Whoever posted that picture is an arsehole who hates women. Don’t let it get to you. You did the best for your child in the circumstances. No need for guilt over working. Many women are lucky to enjoy their careers and even work for themselves.

No one guilts men into choosing between work and kids. Funny that.

This ^^

I expect some man with trad views who can’t manage chores posted this

Hang on is the answer to that pic that we’re supposed to be subservient either way?! Wtf!

Brefugee · 23/01/2021 22:45

a basic misunderstanding of what feminism is. Roll your eyes and scroll on

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/01/2021 12:49

How can I be anti feminist when I’ve had to fight for my freedom against the male patriarchal system that has been created and designed to keep us entrapped?!

Well... because you've posted an inaccurate and painfully transparent misogynistic meme and declared that it's made you question whether you're a feminist. Whereas the rest of us have questioned the meme.

Incidentally, I depressed the hell out of myself posting on this thread the other day. Googled 'feminist meme' and got a whole load of anti-feminist memes. Tried again Googling 'Pro-feminist meme' and got the same load of anti-feminist memes Sad

Cam2020 · 24/01/2021 12:57

I don't think the meme adequately describes feminist at all, I think it's propaganda to make women feel guilty about working outside of the home.

Are you for real? 🤣 Presumably that’s a fundie Christian ad (hence the word serve and the frilly apron) -

There are many branches of feminism. None of them particularly encourage you to ‘serve’ your job over ‘serving’ your family, but they variously do campaign for women to be paid for the work they do at home; to be able to work flexible hours around their families so if their husband buggers off they won’t be thrown into poverty; and for our current working culture, built for men but damaging to them to, to be reshaped.

Catch yourself on.

Stompythedinosaur · 26/01/2021 01:02

I await the twee meme questioning why men would want to "serve" their employer rather than "serving" their wife.

The picture is absolute bullshit and I can't believe that anyone with two brain cells to rub together would feel it gave a thoughtful riposte to feminism.

This. I definitely agree about their being different types of feminism. I wouldn’t leave it to just looking on the feminism MN boards but also look at other boards, listen to different types of podcasts or audiobooks available. There are so many about different parts of feminism and best to look at it from all angles and focuses*
