Women walking around the shop eating with her mask off.

I probably sound judgemental and don’t mean to be but aibu to think this is wrong given current times?

I generally get disgusted about people walking around the supermarket eating anyway. Does anyone actually do that?!

She had her mask right down walking around stuffing her face with everything. I assume she had bought these foods before she was walking around the shop from another shop or went in to get food and back in. It was all junk food too.

I’d like to think there was a valid reason for her doing this. Maybe she’s diabetic or something but she was stuffing her face as soon as he got into the shop and was walking around? (It’s a small shop and I kept seeing her) Surely she knew she needed food before she walked in and could have eaten in the car.

I even a couple of the staff were giving her looks of disgust as she was walking around. But no one looked brave enough to ask her to pull her mask up!

It’s just a mix of the mask down and stuffing her face. Really got under my skin. 🤣

Sorry if I sound judgmental. Maybe she had a good reason!

@Wheresmykimchi

Sat there we were sitting down making small car parts back supports to be precise yes she took her shoes and socks off to scratch at her feet and ate crisps i was a few stages down and didn't know if the crumbs were crisps or skin

Neotraditional · 22/01/2021 22:23
@Neotraditional, nowhere did I say jt was acceptable for the wan to walk around the shop eating with her mask under her chin, just that the way the OP described it was ridiculous.
I disagree, I can well believe it’s true as I’ve seen similar. Either way I think the pile on of people telling op to mind her own business and practically accusing her of lying was awful. Walking around a shop eating and touching items after touching your mouth is unhygienic and appalling manners

If you say so.

sunshineandshowers21 · 22/01/2021 22:26

why don’t you just say she was a fat chav and have done with it, op? 🙄

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/01/2021 22:32

@Neotraditional I didn't tell the OP to mind her own business or say she was lying, exaggerating to add some drama, but not completely lying.

And no managers pulled her up for that?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/01/2021 22:36

@Oooohbehave

Mumsnet WTF? The other day I saw a post about a new mum wanting to go for a masked up, socially distanced browse round a garden centre and the Covid police were out in droves to tell her what a selfish dick she is. It's fine though, for some twat to walk round a supermarket with mask down scoffing food and OP is judgemental apparently. Fuck right off. YANBU OP.
Yes but MN doesn't like children. They're not allowed out in public anymore.

No you insinuated she was lying and others told her to mind her own business. During a pandemic I think it’s everyone’s business to ensure rules are adhered to so we can get out of this hell that is lockdown as soon as.

Wheresmykimchi · 22/01/2021 22:41

@Neotraditional

Fair point. . if OP had been asking if she was right to tell a manager, not stalk her around the shop then write cruelly about her on an internet forum.

Theunamedcat · 22/01/2021 22:47

@iminaglasscaseofemotion

I was 19 i spoke first 😳 my manager was unaware and got involved afterwards to be honest he never liked letting people go she was an agency worker and I dont remember her being there long

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/01/2021 22:54

No, that's just your opinion.

rorosemary · 22/01/2021 22:54

Not all type 1 diabetics are the same. You can't see it when I have a hypo. I function well at 0.9 (seriously, it freaks my endo out). I can walk and talk till all of a sudden my vision and speach goes, I lose consciousness and fall over. From acting fine till not being able to speak and losing consciousness is about 3-5 seconds for me. I would eat any carb at hand during a hypo while looking for/ buying something more suitable (or just extra for replacement). Which she might have been doing.

I also have a pump and CGM. That doesn't mean that I don't get hypo's anymore. I still do although less than I used to. Except when I was pregnant, then I had hypo's every day in the second trimester, even when my pump had stopped giving insulin five hours prior. Hormones can do crazy things to a persons glucose levels.

Please don't judge. For some of us eating then and there is literally life saving. We can't always adhere to social convention.

whereisthejoy · 22/01/2021 23:01

Wow this really got to you OP! Confused

babyno2pending · 22/01/2021 23:06

She could've been pregnant and needed to top up her blood sugar, I have to snack constantly to stay on my feet rn

FoxyTheFox · 23/01/2021 00:21

I had HG when I was pregnant, one of very few foods I could eat without throwing up was salt and vinegar Squares so I ate loads of them. As a side note, you can live almost entirely on crisps for nine months and still lose over a stone in weight.

FoxyTheFox · 23/01/2021 00:22

It will totally fuck your teeth though because of the erosion from all that acid. Will also possibly leave you with emetophobia.

lockeddownandcrazy · 24/01/2021 17:36

"Please don't judge. For some of us eating then and there is literally life saving. We can't always adhere to social convention."

So walk out of the shop first? Anyone who needs to eat immediately because of pregnancy, low blood sugar etc will be carrying food with them, so just leave the shop, eat and return with mask on.

peak2021 · 24/01/2021 18:07

Eating there and then I can fully appreciate. What does not seem reasonable is why you could not go out of the shop to do so.

GrumpyHoonMain · 24/01/2021 18:10

Is this really about mask compliance or are you really disgusted seeing a woman eating in public? I think it’s the latter. Your op sounds so mean and judgemental

Paquerette · 24/01/2021 18:39

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

Funny old MN - one the one hand you have threads saying, How long can this go on, I can’t stand it, my MH is suffering - not to mention blaming everything on Boris -
 • and then flat out refusing to be judgemental about anyone blatantly flouting the rules. Always so many excuses for them - they can’t possibly just be stupid, inconsiderate arses who don’t give a fuck about anyone else.
This. Every excuse possible for her weird/shitty behaviour.

YANBU.

That said, as the virus is spread by aerosol droplets (which would go on whatever she was eating 🤢🤢🤢) she was probably putting herself at more risk of covid than most of the other shoppers who may touch whatever she had touched.
