Women walking around the shop eating with her mask off.

I probably sound judgemental and don’t mean to be but aibu to think this is wrong given current times?

I generally get disgusted about people walking around the supermarket eating anyway. Does anyone actually do that?!

She had her mask right down walking around stuffing her face with everything. I assume she had bought these foods before she was walking around the shop from another shop or went in to get food and back in. It was all junk food too.

I’d like to think there was a valid reason for her doing this. Maybe she’s diabetic or something but she was stuffing her face as soon as he got into the shop and was walking around? (It’s a small shop and I kept seeing her) Surely she knew she needed food before she walked in and could have eaten in the car.

I even a couple of the staff were giving her looks of disgust as she was walking around. But no one looked brave enough to ask her to pull her mask up!

It’s just a mix of the mask down and stuffing her face. Really got under my skin. 🤣

Sorry if I sound judgmental. Maybe she had a good reason!

Sounds awful selfish behavior , touching her mouth and then items in the shop. Disgraceful selfish woman

Poppyseeds2 · 22/01/2021 15:49

A lot of people have hypos and they suddenly come on or they don’t realise so they need to eat quickly. How do you know she had a car?

Maybe she had Prader willi syndrome...

What were you doing in the shop because to notice this amount of detail you must of been staring.

You sound awful OP. Is this want the pandemic is driving people to? How sad.

Whatsmyusername30 · 22/01/2021 15:51

Having a quick snack if she felt ill and taking her mask off temporarily - absolutely fine. Wouldn’t have bat an eyelid.

Walking around the shop with the mask off the whole time eating - not fine imo.

But whatever. Imagine if we all walked around eating with our masks off.

If she felt faint she could have went to find a seat (the shop has loads) she didn’t look bleddy faint. She was shopping with someone else and they were just messing around and being gobby.

Someone in my area has died of covid in their early forties with no underlying health issue. This virus is really well and masks are so important if you can wear one.

She had her mask down the whole time. If she didn’t have a mask I’d assume exempt which is fine but she had it down her face she was just being an idiot it seemed.

I'd feel the same as you op, but I think you lost the vote with 'junk food' and 'stuffing her face' Grin

YesMeLady · 22/01/2021 15:54

Are diabetic sufferers advised to eat crisps if they have a hypo coming on. I thought it was glucose that helped.

Poppyseeds2 · 22/01/2021 15:54

@ZaZathecat and commenting on how she didn’t look approachable.

lljkk · 22/01/2021 15:57

I worked in a grocery store in the '80s. One of our regulars always did this. It was gross.
Looking back I believe she had a type of eating disorder. I'm pretty sure her visit to our store was highlight of her week.

Pity (that it's the best some people can do to cope with life) is only emotion I could summon now.

Poppyseeds2 · 22/01/2021 15:58

@YesMeLady maybe that’s all she had if your having a hypo I would advise that you eat what you have to hand! She could of had mental health or a disability. Or a condition such as prader willi Syndrome.

It’s nothing to do with OP or you.

Why didn’t she report it it if she felt it was so serious? Because gossiping online and being unkind is going to achieve what exactly?

Cloverglens · 22/01/2021 16:00

Actions like what you describe can put other people at risk if she is touching or handling items that she doesn't buy as it may contain traces of her saliva. Mouth, to hands to items. So I would be pissed as well if taking precautions and then idiots like this increasing my risk.
Also everyone on here calling you judgemental must never have judged someone by their actions in their life 😜

warmandtoasty2day · 22/01/2021 16:09

which ever way you look at it, a lot people do judge others behaviour esp. if it's deemed a bit skanky. posters probably do on here more than they would admit to, because they know if they're not following the herd mentality, god for bid someone will challenge them and they're get piled on.

Rosebel · 22/01/2021 16:09

@ErrolTheDragon

Even without CV and masks, it's really not ok for adults to wander around shops eating, especially not food shops.

The shopkeeper ought to put up a 'no eating and drinking on these premises' sign and enforce it.

So not only do supermarket staff have to do the actual job we're paid for but also ensure customers keep 2 metres apart, that they wear masks and now you want us to ensure customers don't eat in store. All the time at risk of verbal and physical abuse. Anything else you'd like us to do?
Freetigerking · 22/01/2021 16:15

It’s disgusting, she’ll be putting her hands in her mouth eating at the same time picking things from the shelf. I would have complained

AcrossthePond55 · 22/01/2021 16:17

Interesting. Many places here (USA) state that you may NOT walk around eating or drinking, you must be stationary and only remove your mask while you are actively drinking and eating.

There's no reason someone can't stop to consume whatever it is they're consuming.

Wheresmykimchi · 22/01/2021 16:17

Another sneery judgemental thread dressed up as covid fear.

HibernatingTill2030 · 22/01/2021 16:18

People really shouldn't need to eat and drink in shops anyway. You're hardly in them that long!

HibernatingTill2030 · 22/01/2021 16:19

Which is why you wash your hands, wear your mask, don't touch anything yourself unless necessary. You seem to spending too much time worrying about what other people are doing

Well, yes. My mask protects others, their protects me. So them not wearing one can really affect others.

Although it is of course, not our business. Just stay away from her if that worried she's going to breathe covid germs near to you, OP.

FelicityBob · 22/01/2021 16:22

Don’t know why you’re getting a hard time OP! I also wouldn’t want to see people walking round a shop stuffing their face with junk food Grin especially not in a pandemic. All these perfect people who don’t judge anyone Hmm

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/01/2021 16:22

I've no idea why someone would do that. Confused

I suppose you could call them a Mystery Shopper? Wink

Silvercatowner · 22/01/2021 16:24

You'd need to eat a lot of crisps. Glucose tablets are the go to, with full fat lucozade a close second. Otherwise an energy bar or chocolate.

SmellyPooHead · 22/01/2021 16:25

I would have left the shop

Poppyseeds2 · 22/01/2021 16:27

@SmellyPooHead

I would have left the shop
OP seemed that bloody nosey it’s a wonder she even got what she needed from the shop in the first place... with her full account 🙄
Ivy455 · 22/01/2021 16:33

I am type one diabetic and have had to do this many times.

Fast acting sugary things are best but any carbs will do.
maddiemookins16mum · 22/01/2021 16:35

Nobody needs to eat food (probably also not paid for yet) walking around a shop.

Gilead · 22/01/2021 16:36

My stepmother would do this on occasion, it was because she could feel a diabetic hypo coming on.
Keep your beak out and don’t be so bloody judgmental.
