Women walking around the shop eating with her mask off.

I probably sound judgemental and don’t mean to be but aibu to think this is wrong given current times?

I generally get disgusted about people walking around the supermarket eating anyway. Does anyone actually do that?!

She had her mask right down walking around stuffing her face with everything. I assume she had bought these foods before she was walking around the shop from another shop or went in to get food and back in. It was all junk food too.

I’d like to think there was a valid reason for her doing this. Maybe she’s diabetic or something but she was stuffing her face as soon as he got into the shop and was walking around? (It’s a small shop and I kept seeing her) Surely she knew she needed food before she walked in and could have eaten in the car.

I even a couple of the staff were giving her looks of disgust as she was walking around. But no one looked brave enough to ask her to pull her mask up!

It’s just a mix of the mask down and stuffing her face. Really got under my skin. 🤣

Sorry if I sound judgmental. Maybe she had a good reason!

@FoxyTheFox

The pal was gobby . Make sure you get that

And there were two of them. Two of them together at a shop instead of sticking to the social media invented rule of "one adult, one trolley".

We’ve been told quite clearly to shop alone, social media hasn’t invented that one. I’d be more pissed off about that personally.
Nomnomarrgh · 22/01/2021 20:14

This is why I don’t bother to put a mask on at all. I know they make me ill, but I have tried to put one on in the past and had to remove it cue judgemental fuckers. I have to instead embarrass myself wearing a sign around my neck explaining that yes, I am one of those improperly formed people. If I eat in a fashion you don’t like, get over it. Its better than people calling an ambulance.

Humblebumbleoh · 22/01/2021 20:14

I’ve eaten in shops pre Covid for a variety of reasons and will happily continue to do so post Covid, and (last I checked) I am ‘decent’ and not ‘scummy’, ‘grim’, ‘vile’ or ‘disgusting’. Some of you really need to loosen your grip on your pearls and tighten it on reality.

Holly60 · 22/01/2021 20:17

I don’t really understand why people are giving you such a hard time here OP. I would have felt similar if I had seen what you have described, and I bet you any money that all the people saying live and let live would also have raised an eyebrow too

Desperatelyboredhousewife · 22/01/2021 20:23

As a type 1 diabetic I absolutely would, and have, been in this situation. Yes, ideally I’d leave the shop but blood sugars can drop very quickly and unexpectedly so if that means eating in the shop, I’m eating in the shop - covid or no covid.

nildesparandum · 22/01/2021 20:24

She was not eating ordinary junk food, she was eating M&S junk food.

Fuckingcrustybread · 22/01/2021 20:27

@FoxyTheFox

Maybe I am a judgmental bastard

You appear to have accidentally inserted a 'maybe' here, OP.

🤣🤣

Ok what next vigilantism!? mob justice!? it's literally none of her business and yes she could well be a diabetic . It's for either the shop staff police or authorities ect ect to question or ask this women why she was doing what she was doing, everyone else should assume she is exempt and has a reason to be eating and get on with ones own shopping ,you must have been observing this woman for quite a while how odd . Clearly just a reason for sneering & mock shock due to the description of the "junk food" adding in "stuffing her face" & general description of the woman ...

Also why not just get a delivery if your that saintly about eliminating all risks , you even being in the shop is a risk .

GirlCrush · 22/01/2021 20:37

it would be my business if it were in our store

and i would no doubt be called on by staff to sort it

which i would. nicely. most reasonable people....and pretty much every customer i have challenged over covid rules has been.....would apologise and stop, shop,pay and move on, or if diabetic, or needed to eat for other medical reasons, then id take her to a quiet area. job done, minimal drama

not read full thread but did you ask staff to intervene op?

Oooohbehave · 22/01/2021 20:38

Mumsnet WTF? The other day I saw a post about a new mum wanting to go for a masked up, socially distanced browse round a garden centre and the Covid police were out in droves to tell her what a selfish dick she is. It's fine though, for some twat to walk round a supermarket with mask down scoffing food and OP is judgemental apparently. Fuck right off. YANBU OP.

PerpendicularVincent · 22/01/2021 20:41

Anything that increases the risk of someone catching covid is selfish and wrong.

Yes, and the attitudes toward her were disgusting too. Much the same attitude as the OP is exhibiting on this thread.

People need to reel in their constant negativity before someone trips over it.

toocold54 · 22/01/2021 20:49

I need to know what food she was eating Grin

Unless you have an illness there’s no reason to eat in a supermarket COVID or no COVID

HamAndButterSandwich · 22/01/2021 20:50

@bea1994

For one yes it is everyone's business if people don't follow the rules. To say it isn't is just so obviously stupid you should feel embarrased. Not following rules will mean more people die. Not just of covid either so stop trotting out this ridiculous nonsense you're embarrasing yourself. It also means we'll all be locked down for longer that is absolutely my business.

I imagine you'd also not 'mind your own business' if you saw someone stealing a car that wasn't yours. Who cares right? What are we going to do mob justice? Much better to not give a shit about each other than actually follow basic rules.

The majority of us haven't said it's fine. We are mocking the tone of it same as the other shop thread.
Poppyseeds2 · 22/01/2021 21:15

@HamAndButterSandwich OP didn’t report it! She cannot of cared that much. She obviously just stood by and watched hence knowing so much detail about a stranger and coming to tell us on MN.

Wheresmykimchi · 22/01/2021 21:17

On a side note ...ate all the way round?

Must have been one mammoth bag of crisps.

Incidentally how does one know someone did something all the way without following them!

tatutata · 22/01/2021 21:19

Yes, shocking behaviour. Firing squad, definitely.

stackemhigh · 22/01/2021 21:24
@Plussizejumpsuit yes anxiety and ocd. Extreme issues with hygiene, cleanliness and anxiety about germs etc heightened with covid.

I think anyone without these issues would think eating in a shop touching everything at current times is disgusting. Most shops discourage have signs saying no food or drink.
And here's the drip feed. People with anxiety are usually sympathetic to the possible needs of others. The way you refer to this woman is awful, and it says like you want to say she was fat or rough but are too scared to.

Shes not stealing a car though is she ! to the OP'S knowledge she isn't doing anything illegal . We should assume those not wearing masks are exempt & leave it to the shop staff to question... otherwise we are heading down a dangerous path ...stealing a car is quite obviously illegal.

I rarely see anyone unmasked these days and if I do i assume exemptions .

Oh and other medical emergencies are going on aside from covid ! Eg as a diabetic i am really scared of this happening & having to remove my mask to eat and potentially get a punch or something similar this happened to a women on a trian in my area who was in fact exempt, someone threw her a punch !! bloody disgusting and horrific people think this is now acceptable .

bea1994 · 22/01/2021 21:41

screamingchild · 22/01/2021 21:48

Maybe she was just on a very short lunch break and in a rush...!!

truthlemon · 22/01/2021 21:53

@Cornettoninja

I’m with you. There’s no need, especially at the moment.

There is literally no need for anyone to have to eat in the middle of a supermarket. A diabetic in that urgent need of food/glucose that they couldn’t wait till they were outside wouldn’t be able to saunter round a shop munching on whatever. It would be a fairly obvious urgent situation.

I wouldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt at all. They just don’t care and have a massive sense of entitlement. Wankers basically.

Side note I once worked on a production line where a girl scoffed crisps picked skin off her feet and worked on components and passed them down the line all with the same unwashed set of hands I was the only one who told her she was fucking rank we have to handle those parts with her skin and bits of crisp on (plus they had to go in someone's car afterwards) twas fucking grim
