Please help me figure out what's wrong with my dog?!

Hi everyone

Posting for traffic.

My lovely, 5 year old sprocker spaniel has been whimpering/pacing/crying ALL day today.

He normally goes for a wee when I get up at 6-7, has some biscuits then lays on my bed or his bed and sleeps most of the day before a walk.

Today he has been the total opposite, I've filled his water bowl with fresh water, he's been walked off lead, I've topped his biscuits up, I've given him cuddles, all the fuss he usually has, he's weeing and been for a number 2, I've played with him on my lunch break with his rope.

I don't know what is wrong with him, I've felt his tummy in case he has tummy ache but he doesn't respond negatively to that, I've checked his paws, his mouth, his eyes there is nothing obvious at all.

He usually sleeps most the day and then has a walk and then he curls up for the night with us. I cannot figure out what is bothering him and it's driving me mad!

Here's a pic of him and his son. So sad isn't it. Poor dogs.

Please help me figure out what's wrong with my dog?!

I don't think there's a worry about how happy he is. It's more the worry about unwanted puppies who haven't been health tested.

Thank you to everyone for the helpful advice. To those of you who've called me scum, irresponsible, not an animal lover, I have no words for any of you, as you know nothing about me and have no place to judge at all.

@barebetty don't be like the rest, nobody knows what research we've done. What's been tested. Who's been tested. If I know the family line. You all know nothing who jumped on the attack for absolutely no reason. I love him so much I would like to carry his line on, I'd love another one of him. He is the most loving silly dog you'd ever meet. Now go and take your unwanted opinion everywhere but here.

Thank you @Lovemusic33 we met up with the female dog for a walk today (shock horror) and he seems settled now.

Ok. I apologise. I was just explaining why people might be getting upset. I have no skin in the game. I haven't bought a puppy for a long time.

I posted here with an upset dog a while ago and got good advice about why he was acting up.

I found plug ins etc unhelpful. He was just being weird for a bit.

Instead of hissy fit you could have just say at the beginning "We did all the test incl x and and search so that's covered". You really can't be surprised people jumped at you when you presented it like if you knew nothing except that dogs bark.

It's actually good people go and jump on people who know nothing, don't want to spend the time on it, but want puppies.

Okay sure. So will you answer the questions people have asked? Did you do thorough health checks, do you gave a waiting list of homes ready for the puppies that will come along next, registered yourself as a breeder, etc
I doubt it because otherwise you'd have answered immediately.
Thousands of puppies have been dumped recently. We don't need any more puppies created, especially by inexperienced backyard breeders. But sure you go ahead creating lives because your struggles entitle you to do whatever the hell you like Hmm

@MissBaskinIfYoureNasty she's not pregnant. Why would we have a list of people ready to buy a puppy? She's day 21 of her cycle now so it won't be happening. I'm not going to sit in a corner and cry about it because I wanted thousands of pounds (which I wouldn't of got anyway). They will continue to be friends and when she has her next season, if I've decided he's still going to be in tact then maybe we'll consider it again.

@SchrodingersImmigrant you know nothing about me. We had 9 rescue dogs growing up. I know a lot more than you assume I do.

@barebetty thank you. I've tried plug ins when my cat was a bit restless but didn't seem to work. He seems fine today.

Also I owe nobody any explanations. I recently took it upon myself to report a girl I work with for breeding French bulldogs left, right and centre and selling them at 6 weeks even though I told her I thought it was wrong as many did when she turned up in a new Audi after selling the 4th litter. I'm probably a lot more knowledgeable and kind as a person than anyone on here knows.

Well so fucking say it instead of creating a bloody drama on a website you know has lots of actual dog lovers by ignoring people's simple questions 🙄

@SchrodingersImmigrant calm down, no need to swear or get nasty. Showing yourself as a nice person here aren't you. I did say way back on the thread I grew up with rescue dogs.

Every reputable breeder meticulously plans litters well in advance and has waiting lists for their puppies.
If you do not know this, then my assumption would have to be that your own dog did not come from such a breeder.

Oh and just for the record, sensible breeders do not pick the sire for their litter because the dogs are ‘friends’
They pick for temperament, health and suitability of breeding lines.

@SchrodingersImmigrant creating a drama? I asked for advice as to why my dog was whimpering for no apparent reason. I started no drama thank you.

@Undisclosedlocation we were actually on our way back from Battersea Dogs Home after being declined for adoption as they only had staffs available that needed people with experience in the breed when I saw the advert for my dog.

I went and met the family, the mum and dad, the brothers and sisters and my dog of course.

They came to my house a few weeks later and offered me him, I put a deposit down and picked him up a few weeks later. We are still in contact now, again you know nothing.

Could see Mum and Dad had a lovely temperament, all happy and clean, family lovely. Don't assume.

You dodge questions, then you throw a fit instead of answering a simple questions and call people nasty just because they dared to question your apparent lack of knowledge. Not because they wanted to get onto you personally, but because some people genuinely care about animals.

The only reason I jumped in now is because you are calling these people nasty. And they don't deserve it. Drama llama

Also. I grew up with rescue dogs. Doesn't make me a well of knowledge about breeding.

@Undisclosedlocation also saw their KC registration certificates and had copies of his vet trip and what he'd had done (worming, injection etc).

What is wrong with breeding in a friendship group? Both dogs are sprockers with lovely personalities.

You're so well researched that you didn't even realise that her being in season and him having been around here would explain his restless behaviour today?

Yeah right, you're totes ready to be a responsible breeder Hmm
