Thank god he’s gone. Thank god for that.

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 18:18

I was on pins throughout the whole ceremony. The whole time my inner voice was screaming “Hurry up and get Biden indoors!!!”

Glad the orange cunt has gone. I suspect he’ll just slither away now.

RedToothBrush · 20/01/2021 18:18

I do wonder how history will judge Pence. I suspect he will be named the 'Silent Vice President'. I wonder just how much he did to control Trump in his final days in office and how much more will come out in time. And just how much we don't know.

DirtyHydrogen · 20/01/2021 18:20

I've lurked on these threads from the beginning and I'm so happy and relieved that we made it! Thanks so much to all the regulars who have taught me so much about the US political system and shared the despair and occasional moments of joy over the years. Here's to the dawning of the post-Trump era!

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 18:21

I think Pence will manage to come up smelling of roses, tbh.

The complicit VP. Going along with what you know to be wrong is the same, if not worse, than leading the 'parade'.
AcrossthePond55 · 20/01/2021 18:24

Signing EOs.

Cabinet noms, & Inauguration Day proclamation.

middlepuddle · 20/01/2021 18:24

One thing trump may not have considered is that fanatics who come to believe they have been let down by the figures they believed in often turn on them and turn on them violently

PerkingFaintly · 20/01/2021 18:26

"For there is always light. Thread #123 is belong to Pres Biden"?

Maybe - but tbh there's a lot we don't know.

It may come about that Pence was more important (or even vital) in containing Trumps worst excesses (especially post election) than some people suspect.....or not Wink.

So true.

I agree. But I think we will see some revisionist thinking on this too.

Defenbaker · 20/01/2021 18:33

It's a relief it all went OK, I was worried that some nutter would try to bump off Biden and Harris today.

Biden's speech was excellent. Harris just beamed all the way through. The poet lauriet was impressive, but I felt she stretched things out a bit.

I loved Biden's words about stopping "this uncivil war". He seems genuine in his intent to do the right thing by his country. Good luck President Biden and VP Harris... many people are willing you to succeed.

ListeningQuietly · 20/01/2021 18:34

These threads are not over until

  • Trump is impeached and or convicted
  • McConnell is pushed aside for somebody less venal
AND The USA starts to properly deal with
  • electoral disenfranchisement
  • gerrymandering
  • political appointees where jobs should be to staffers
  • police brutality and racism
  • the rights of women and children
  • proper funding of education
  • proper funding and management of healthcare

Its a big ask
and some in the Biden team are on the wrong side of some issues
but he is a good manager
and a good delegator
and a good negotiator
so there is HOPE

CaveMum · 20/01/2021 18:36

@Roussette

For us from the UK, this will mean something 😂😂😂

Fun fact.
Jennifer Lopez is the same age as Jacob Rees Mogg.
Sorry, couldn't resist Grin

That’s on the same lines as Brad Pitt is older than Nigel Farage!

From your fingers to God's screen.

Not really. I don't want anyone to be subjected to violence. Not even Scrotus.

Although he's not Scrotus any more is he? Guess I can go back to calling him Trump. Or Dump. Or ex-Scrotus.

Maybe just Donald J Bawbag.

UnsureOfOutcome · 20/01/2021 18:37

Keeping up my tradition of delurking at moments critiques^^ to thank you all and just cheer with joy in a slightly drunk way. Oh joy, oh RAPTURE. What a blessed day SmileSmileSmile

whereismormonjesus · 20/01/2021 18:38

@Defenbaker

You’re not the only one who was worried, I was terrified there’d be a rebel Trump nutter in the security team or something. Especially after seeing the some cops helping the terrorists into the capital.

Coquohvan · 20/01/2021 18:41

When Trump was walking towards the Dias steps at Andrews DH said -
Oh look gallows 😅

prettybird · 20/01/2021 18:41

Finally caught up! Trying to watch (from 12 noon UK time) the events in the US while reading this proved impossible Wink

Loved the way that neither CBS nor CNN (yes, we had two TVs in our living room: one with CBS off the Fire box and the other having CNN cast to it) cut to Trump landing in Florida Grin ....we'd had BBC on instead of CBS, saw that CNN wasn't covering it while the BBC had a split screen with it - so we jumped across to CBS to see).

Loved Kamala's smile when she was inaugurated. Smile

And I thought Biden's speech was brilliantly judged and delivered. He only stammered once. Such a change to have an articulate president (and speech writer Wink I'm going to make a point of listening to it again.

Trump who? Wink

CaveMum · 20/01/2021 18:41

I was in the car driving back from nursery pickup listening to BBC Five Live. They had a linguistics professor from George Washington University appraising the speech (for delivery, not context). He said he’d give him a B for that one, he said he thought President Biden was not a great public speaker, that he used too many colloquialisms and repeated himself. However he did say that of course there’s more to being President than making speeches.

JamieLeeCurtains · 20/01/2021 18:42

@SanFranBear

Oh, and JLo shouted part of the pledge of allegiance:

One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all

Oh brilliant. I didn't catch that.

www.cnn.com/2021/01/20/business/trump-pension/index.html

Just FYI. And a good reason for the Senate to vote to remove.

Trump the Dump does not deserve these perks and benefits.
