I’m shielded, don’t go out to shops etc, except for daily walk.
I get up every morning and dress, put my makeup on , and do my hair - purely because if I look ok, I feel better than if I wear my pj’s all day.

Lockdownshmockdown · 19/01/2021 13:38

I agree with the leggings and hoody brigade. Leggings, hoody, warm cosy socks.

Get up, showered, and dressed in something you wouldn't be embarrassed to nip to the shops in. But stay comfy and cosy.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 19/01/2021 13:40

I remember rushing to buy DH any slippers I could find in the local supermarket before a hospital stay as he doesn't even own a pair of slippers 😂

Definitively a shoes-on in this house!

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 19/01/2021 13:42

I pretty much lived in dresses in the last lockdown, it was hot so they were super comfy and practical but I was still wearing "clothes".

I don't even find nightwear that comfortable for daily life, it's good to lay down in bed and sleep, but not great for the day.

Chalkcheese · 19/01/2021 13:48

Sounds like cabin fever. Put some walking clothes on and get out for some exercise. It will lift your mood (walking does something physiological whether you like it or not!) and hopefully give you some perspective. If you can get to some water, some woods or a big open space even better. Even in a built up area finding a tall hill to walk up, and looking out over the roof tops. Gardens are marvellous for a bit of a move around and some fresh air, but going beyond the perimeter of your own home and garden is the only cure for cabin fever

Londontown12 · 19/01/2021 13:50

Each to their own whatever gets u throu I think !
Personally I’ve tried to have a PJ day but I feel lazy unmotivated that’s me !
And it makes me feel crap
I get up early everyday have a shower hair makeup and I wear what I’d normally wear I guess others any think I’m mad but it gets me throu going about my day as normal as I can without going outside 🙁
**@Iknowwhatudidlastsummer* and @IWillWearThatGlitteryWoolly*
Shoes to me in the house is a no to me as I don't want dirt treaded through the house. Also I couldn't get comfortable wearing shoes indoors.
I wear socks or slippers. I don't associate slippers with night time, more a comfortable house shoe

@IWillWearThatGlitteryWoolly good taste in music 🤘
I'm totally with you. We have a lot of carpet and I can't think of anything worse than wearing shoes. Slippers all the time for me when I'm at home, even if I'm fully dressed it's slippers. Unless I'm working them I do change into trainers but I have an at home pair only that never go outside.

Meruem · 19/01/2021 14:11

I live in London and question just how “fresh” the air outside is. I’ve wfh for a long time now and one of the things I noticed was when I washed my hair and I was out every day, the water would be dirty. If I have a few days at home and wash my hair the waters clean. I think it’s all the pollution. The houses here are terraced so my back garden backs into someone else’s garden and is a distance from the road. So I go out there if I want “air” or just open a window Grin

I do my exercise etc at home so am not idle. I don’t see a need to trudge around polluted streets to escape the house! So yes I spend most of my time in PJs. I don’t sleep in them, I’d be too hot, they are my “lounge wear”. I don’t dispute that many people need to get outside for their mental health but not all of us do. A daily walk was a suggestion/allowance, not an order!

If you’re not happy OP then you probably could do with getting out and about a bit. But not everyone needs to.

Lilifer · 19/01/2021 14:14

@Givemeabreak88

Wow really? Do you have children? I can’t imagine doing this tbh, it’s been almost a month, I think you are probably on your own with this one
What a mean comment ☹️I'm sure OP is not on her own and that there are many people in the same boat at the moment because of these awful times we are living in. Have some compassion fgs
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 19/01/2021 14:23

DH is an 'up, straight in the shower' person so he would judge me if I didn't. I do feel better getting showered and dressed every morning though, and I try to put on jeans most days. Not been dying my hair recently mind you. It's so bloody cold I tend to wear a hat anyway.

IDKNABYBIF22 · 19/01/2021 14:54

I think the less you do, the less you want to do or feel capable of. It's amazing the difference even just a 15 minute walk makes to my mood and energy levels. Sometimes I have to force myself to go, but I always feel better afterwards. I've started listening to audio books since the summer and love a long walk with one now.

I was quite depressed last year, and really struggled to get dressed and out the house some days. A friend recommended to me to set a timer; so set a timer and tell yourself you have to be showered and dressed by the time it goes off in 20 minutes, then set one for 10 minutes and tell yourself you only have to walk for 10 minutes. Most of the time I would carry on walking after the timer, but it made the idea of going for a walk much easier. When you are feeling low I think the thought of having to start doing something can almost seem overwhelming at times.

Put a nice warm outfit together and get out to the beach OP, blow the cobwebs away.

KarmaStar · 19/01/2021 15:01

Get up tomorrow, shower get dressed and walk your dog.you'll feel better for it.

Notimeforaname · 19/01/2021 15:04

Pretty much. I've been fully dressed and out properly maybe 2 or 3 times since xmas.
Lost my job in march and I dont drive.
Partner works and drives so caters to my every whim,no need to get dressed 🤣

caperplips · 19/01/2021 15:42

I got so tired of seeing myself in slobby old house clothes and all my nice things sitting in the wardrobe that I make much more of an effort on a daily basis.
But if I am going to the supermarket at the weekend I'm making much more of an effort - wearing my nice ankle boots - the same as if i were going to meet a friend for coffee in the olden days. And it has been a revelation how much it helps and makes me feel better to look in the mirror and see 'me' again! It's probably shallow and vain but it's just so nice to use a lovely bag, or wear a well cut wool coat etc and feed good!

I take it all off again when i come home but it definitely makes a difference to me

SmidgenofaPigeon · 19/01/2021 15:45

DH and I went to Morrisons in full formal wear (I wore a ball gown and he wore a tux) to get champagne on our wedding anniversary but I realise that might be taking it a bit far 😂 seriously though unless I was ill or very depressed or had recently had surgery I cannot imagine living in pjs, it would bring your whole mood down.

Yes to this. Me too. I don’t think it’s shallow and vain - everyone has different strategies for making themselves feel good and anyone who would judge you for this must be extremely shallow and lacking in empathy themselves. Whatever floats your boat - and keeps you moving forward, albeit at a snail’s pace, these days x
Trouba · 19/01/2021 15:51

I wear pyjamas everyday, I really like it, but if it's getting you down maybe try for something simple even if it's just leggings and a hoodie or similar.

Mydogisagentleman · 19/01/2021 15:56

I’ve been working

raspberrysundaes · 19/01/2021 16:00

Honestly, get out and walk your dog. It's not healthy to spend weeks on end inside and you will feel SO much better for it.

I do get that it's difficult when there's nowhere interesting to go and nothing interesting to do, but it will be playing a big part in your poor mood.

ghostyslovesheets · 19/01/2021 16:06

another vote for getting dressed and going out - I can;t imagine it's very good for you emotionally to slob out and do nothing for months!

I have to get up and get dressed every day because I just hate feeling grubby and lazy (my issue not saying you are!) plus working from home - I try not to make my day blur into one - get up - dressed - coffee then into the study to work - I need that routine.

Lovely1a2b3c · 19/01/2021 16:06

@rainsnownblow

We are lucky the beach is only 10 mins away so might make an effort to go for a walk down there. Although it's been so busy as a couple of cafes have opened up down there for takeaway.
Wow, so lucky- I'm jealous! Have you ever been for a run? I love running on the beach but live no-where near one. Even a walk on the beach would be bliss!

'Slob out' is fairly emotive language- someone can relax at home (whilst still working from home!) without being or behaving like a slob.

Also the OP isn't grubby as she showers each day.

I agree about the routine though.

Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 19/01/2021 16:09

@Mydogisagentleman

I’ve been working
Many of us are a lot more efficient and productive when we take AT LEAST 1 hour of break and exercise outside.
Graciebobcat · 19/01/2021 16:12

I WFH but get up and dressed in the morning (into jumper and jeans), walk the dog and do daily yoga.

Movinghouseatlast · 19/01/2021 16:18

Why don't you treat yourself to some nice lounge wear? I just bought some wide leg trousers from and other stories. Very comfortable but feel like clothes rather than nightwear. I wear them with big jumpers and long sleeved thermal t shirts.

I think a walk to the beach every day would help. Have you thought about an online Zumba and /or Pilates class? They keep me sane I must say.

I'm hoping to get a winter wet suit and start swimming! I feel so lacking in energy I need to do something to pull me out of it.
