I don’t think it sets the best example to kids to be very obviously be dressed in pjs all day actually. And if that means you don’t go out then that’s a bit rubbish. Unless OBVIOUSLY there’s a reason why you aren’t able to be dressed and out.

Bloodybridget · 20/01/2021 20:37

I've never spent a day in pyjamas unless I've been really unwell.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/01/2021 20:43

"My mental health would suffer if I was making a charade of going out somewhere if I was just going to the bin or out for a walk on my own."

That's a good point. Getting dressed up to go nowhere is more of a mental health issue!

waterlego · 20/01/2021 20:49

Take your children outside?

I can occasionally persuade them to come on a dog walk with me but they’re teens and find me and my dog walks a bit boring. DD goes running with a friend, DS goes out bike riding with a friend. I go outside with the dog for at least an hour a day, sometimes two. I get my exercise from teaching fitness classes on livestream for which I wear gym kit. When I’m not walking the dog or doing classes, I wear PJs or loungewear (which is basically PJs that don’t look like PJs).

Amazingly, my kids are doing ok despite the clothing I wear around the house 🤷🏼‍♀️

Agree.

And getting back into PJs during the day is definitely not ‘bliss’ to me. It makes me feel grim.

Even if I’ve had a shower, even if they’re clean. So yes, I suppose there is a degree of projection going on, because lolling around in pyjamas during the day is not the slightest bit appealing.

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:09

I think it’s great that we aren’t all the same and don’t all like the same things. Imagine how boring life would be otherwise!

I don’t know why wearing PJs around the house necessarily denotes ‘lolling’. You realise it’s possible to cook/bake/clean the house/do some admin while wearing PJs?

TheOneLeggedJockey · 20/01/2021 21:12

Of course. But my association of day-time pyjama wearing conjures up negative things for me, not doing much, not going out, can’t be bothered, etc.

And you relate to my point about those not getting dressed or going because they can’t be arsed... how exqckrt?
Sethy38 · 20/01/2021 21:15

Exactly

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:16

Sure. That’s just an assumption though.
I expect there are people in PJs doing absolutely nothing, and people in normal clothes also doing absolutely nothing. It’s just fabric shaped to fit your body and doesn’t dictate what you do.

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:19

And you relate to my point about those not getting dressed or going because they can’t be arsed... how exqckrt?

Well mentioned wearing PJs at home. Is it relevant or not?

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:20

That should say- you mentioned wearing PJs at home.

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:21

And you asked if I take my children outside (or suggested I take my children outside, not sure which) so I was answering that post.

SickofCovid · 20/01/2021 21:28

I work 3 days minding kids and when I'm home I don't bother getting dressed into clothes, its shower and into fresh pjs. My kids are adults and the only time I go out other than work is shopping. Its getting in on me now but when I get dressed I feel like I should be going somewhere. I have Crohns disease so can't even do walks as there are no public facilities open so cannot take the chance. Its fucking miserable 😫

HeadNorth · 20/01/2021 21:30

waterlego you say you walk your dog every day. The OP has literally not left the house since Xmas.

waterlego · 20/01/2021 21:53

Yes Headnorth I walk the dog every day and teach 6 exercise classes a week. I find it sad that the OP hasn’t been anywhere (unless she is happy in that situation).

I just don’t really understand what the wearing of PJs in the daytime has to do with any of this.

I agree that not going outside at all would often be a sign of poor MH in most people. But the clothing people are wearing around the house is totally irrelevant. It’s been implied throughout the thread that people who wear PJs in their own homes are lazy, dirty, unmotivated or have MH problems. Those are just silly, pointless assumptions which have very little to do with the real issue.

Sethy38 · 20/01/2021 21:56

@waterlego

I was referring to those who are wearing Pjs at home and not ever getting out of them because they see no need as nothing to do.

Not slipping in to them after doing an exercise class (which you teach no less!) and going for 1-2 hour walks with your dogs!

Sethy38 · 20/01/2021 21:58

@waterlego

And you asked if I take my children outside (or suggested I take my children outside, not sure which) so I was answering that post.
And I didn’t think I had to clarify that I wasn’t referring to taking your teens out as presumably they can go out on their own.

Children that are of an age that need a parent to take them out.

Was this really not clear that my point wasn’t refereeing to someone like you.

Who has teenagers
Who does not stay in PJs all day... why? Because they teach fitness classes and go out for 1-2 hour walks with their dogs!! Confused

waterlego · 20/01/2021 22:46

Haha- yes but I’m in my PJs the rest of the time- which is quite a lot of time! 😂

No, didn’t expect you to clarify re teens vs kids, but you quoted my post and then wrote ‘Take your children out?’ so I thought you were asking me specifically.

I think I’m lucky that aspects of lockdown suits me really because I don’t enjoy wearing make up, faffing around with hair, choosing outfits etc so I love having an excuse to wear comfy stuff all the time 😬

AdoraBell · 20/01/2021 22:55

Not exactly pyjamas here but the same clothes for days because I CBA to do washing. Completely lost motivation. The one thing that kept me sane was going out for coffee every day. Now there’s no point to anything really.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 20/01/2021 22:57

I think if you’ve got to the point where you don’t care if you’re clothes are clean you need to be quite concerned, and try and reach out for some support. It’s one thing not to bother getting dressed properly, but to wear unwashed clothes is a bit rank.

movingonup20 · 20/01/2021 23:11

Get dressed every morning here. Actually went to work today which was a nice change, had to sign some forms. I've resisted online shopping etc to give me something to do

caringcarer · 20/01/2021 23:20

I am dropping off a child to school and collecting so have to get dressed to go out but when it is cold and icy I would rather stay in and be in Pj's and dressing gown if I could tbh.

Meruem · 21/01/2021 08:20

It’s what they represent if worn all day every day. It represents... not exercising; not getting fresh air and, outside of a pandemic, not socialising

Exercise can be done indoors, gyms are indoors are they not? I get plenty of exercise.
Fresh air, OP said she goes in the garden, as do I. I also open the windows wide in every room every day and allow fresh air in.
Socialising, well again not everyone needs this. Outside of a pandemic I don’t socialise all that often. Not because my MH is poor or I have some kind of social anxiety. I just literally don’t need it and don’t get huge pleasure from it. I enjoy doing crafts at home, some people reading this might not. That’s ok, just as it’s ok for me to not particularly enjoy mixing. We all have different interests.

rainsnowblow · 21/01/2021 09:05

Well I've been out the house twice this week.
Once to local co op for some things for tea and yesterday popped to home bargains.
Was deffo nice to get out but if I'm honest was pleased to get back home.
My friends mum just passed away from covid.
She was only 60 and had fibromyalgia but still worked etc
Still a scary time.
