I know you can’t see them them in person but help settle a debate !

We have 3 kids between us, 14,7 and a baby we have a 3 bedroom house in a slightly
More expensive area than the one in link but pretty local to each other.
The house I like is a bit further out than ours currently but with lovely outdoor space locally for walk: woodland animals etc but only
0.5 miles away from station.
It is cheaper than our current home and would officially mean I become mortgage free. We were looking at 4 bedrooms due to kids ages but this is a 3 bed but has 2 receptions room so thinking we could use one as a room as my DS is 14 so not a young child.
It also 2 bathrooms so that’s helpful.
DH prefers going for a 4 bed and keeping reception rooms and 2 bathrooms and closer to where we are now ( we both drive and have cars ) this would mean having a mortgage for longer.

This is the house we are looking at I think
It will be suitable he doesn’t 😅 but think he might just hate the house haha

I like it! Cheaper than I thought it would be too.

Have you looked slightly further out, say Lower Sunbury, where you will get more for your money and still have access to the river and a short drive/bus/cycle to Bushy Park?

YABU.

No jeffing way would I spend that sort of money only to end up losing access to one of the reception rooms because there aren’t enough bedrooms.

Your husband is right. If you are young enough to have a baby buy a bigger house. Mortgages are ridiculously cheap at the moment.

Buy one like in the link when the kids have left home.

It's a lovely house but doesn't sound suitable for you as a family.

As an aside this makes me SO glad I live in the North! That price is crazy.

This thread is like an illustration of the more money than sense saying.

I'd love to know what you do to have paid off the mortgage of a 700k house. I'm going to guess based on the impracticality of the house you're looking at it's not a career in finance or planning...

Comparing prices between north and south is ridiculous

Report
Viviennemary · 18/01/2021 22:47

I don't like it. It just doesn't appeal to me at all. And quite expensive for a not very attractive house

@Jojobar we can’t relocate so that’s the house prices that’s just the way the country is.
No obviously I am not on finance.
There is plenty of people in the south who own 3 bedroom houses in many different jobs.

I can't see a house with only one room downstairs working for a 5 person family

Dodgy details, is it right on that road being a stable conversion? That would be noisy and perhaps dangerous. Also no mention of a garden let alone photos.

Keep looking would be my advice.

Forget the bedroom situation. Having only one room for all cooking/eating/living will drive you insane as the kids get older, especially one that’s not that big.

The one you mentioned with the attic room but into one bathroom, can you add an en-suite into the attic?

@DrinkRefilled

Jeeeeeeeeesus Christ!!! I take it you’re near London? How do you all afford to live down there?
No live in the north (the proper north, not Manchester) and £650k would but you a 10 bed mansion.

How is Manchester not the proper north?!?!
We are the north!!!

That’s very cheap for the (very lovely) area, I used to live two roads away Grin

The area would sell it for me alone.

Looks tiny for 5 people

PeggyHill · 18/01/2021 22:55

It's a lovely house but I think for the number of children you have, with such of age gaps, you will feel quite cramped in there.

Also, if this is your "forever home" then you both need to be excited about it or it just won't work. If DH is really down on it then that's a good reason to forget it.

I love how half the thread think the price is mad and the other half thinks it’s cheap 😅

One living area, particularly with a mix of teens and young children will drive you all bonkers. Don't do it!

Report
Whattheactual20201 · 18/01/2021 22:57

Ha the problem with DP is he wants a house that you would get for they price in the north which just isn’t doing to happen, his expectations on property size and price here is way too optimistic.

Plus 1100sq ft and no utility and very little storage would feel very cramped for five people, especially with all the paraphernalia that comes with babies and small children.

I am liking the Twickenham one, OP. The interior is as bland as fuck but nothing that setting your 7 year old free on the walls with the contents of your fridge won't fix. Grin
