flippin nora, think i might get myself a new one, good deals there

Kewcumber · 30/10/2007 12:56

SSN - wear it - no-one ever notices mine.

BrownSuga · 30/10/2007 12:59

an ex was going to use this site to buy a good watch, it's usa, but ship int'l exchange is good right now

LucifersLuckyUnderpants · 30/10/2007 12:59

whats the difference between a tag watch and a gucci watch then? Why is tag classy and gucci not? (im not upto date with designer items i shop at primark)

ScaryScaryNight · 30/10/2007 12:59

I know what you mean, I never notice other peoples watches.

iota · 30/10/2007 13:01

LOL Kewcumber - is that because they are dazzled by your f*ck-off huge diamond rings?

MrsSeanSlater · 30/10/2007 13:02

All my watches over the last decade have come from these people. I love them and they're very reasonably priced.

ScaryScaryNight · 30/10/2007 13:02

SPLUTTER!

no iota - they are dazzled by my personality

LucifersLuckyUnderpants · 30/10/2007 13:11

Tag? Gucci? Difference? anyone?

Kewcumber · 30/10/2007 13:15

Tag make watches.
gucci make jewellery.

If you want jewellery buy Gucci, if you want a serious watch buy Tag (or similar).

But honestly watch snobbery aside - buy what you like, no-one else will notice it.

LucifersLuckyUnderpants · 30/10/2007 13:25

thanks for clearing that up kew, makes sense now, but like most have said, buy whatever you like, i couldnt afford to spend that much on a watch but would never say it was unreasonable, just because i dont have that kind of money. Treat yourself and go for it, as for the number plate, its not a sign of insecurity, so get one if you can afford it, you were not wrong to post it as a question, thats what MN is for.

smeeinit · 30/10/2007 13:36

iota pink punters! in bletchley isnt it? the name just makes me pmsl every time i drive past it! pink punters!! hehe!

mrsseanslater i have a storm watch at the moment and do really like it,they are good, not too pricey watches.

tmmam not a look i was thinking of going for but now you mention it....................

JodieG1 · 30/10/2007 13:45

If you can afford it then why not? I don't think £500 is a huge amount to spend on a watch anyway. Good watches cost a lot and the one I like costs about £4k. Not that I can afford it I hasten to add but I can dream hehe.

cleaninglady · 30/10/2007 14:02

Ive only scanned the thread but just wanted to say if you can then do it My DH bought me 2 watches over the past few years the 2nd being a rolex for the birth of my dd years ago - it cost 3 times what you are planning on spending but a good watch is a lifetime investment and even though Im a SAHM at the moment i still love it and am glad we bought it at a time we could afford it. Its like wearing nice underwear - no one else sees it but it makes you feel good Buy a decent brand by a watch maker though if you can

JaamityvilleHorror · 30/10/2007 14:12

Smee- I think you should spend your money as you like. I'm not even bothered how you got it - hard work or not. If it's yours, spend it or save it - the choice is yours and no one elses.

But when you start a thread asking for opinions from other MNers as to whether you ABU you're likely to get both positive and negative comments. I know I've started threads in the past and wished I hadn't because someone somewhere misinterpretted what I was saying.

May be you should have just posted something like:

This year I've worked flippin' hard. Been a bad few years so just wanted to share some good news with my MN colleagues and shout "whoohoo" because this year I can afford to buy myself (cos no-one else will) this [link to watch]

smeeinit · 30/10/2007 14:16

jaam thank you.
i dont regret my op atall,i dont see anything wrong in it or the way i worded it.

binkleandflip · 30/10/2007 14:20

can i just say I had a gucci watch around the same price - it was nothing special as a watch but looked nice and was 'in' at that time.

It stopped working after around a year and then I was told it would be £115 to send it back to have the battery changed because they do a full service and clean up when they change it. Now, I think that's extortionate. I understand if it is for a antique classic timepiece but for a fashion watch to have its battery changed it a complete rob so just a word of warning.

Other than that, your money - enjoy!!

Oh and BTW I also have a personalised plate - pretentious and chavvy? Maybe in the eyes of some. Ups the value of the car? Definately! No downside IMHO

smeeinit · 30/10/2007 14:22

thanks for that binkle, handy to know.
ive just ordered my personalised plate!

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 30/10/2007 14:51

local jewellers often will change batteries/service etc at much chepaer prices.

binkleandflip · 30/10/2007 14:57

thats true Kewcumber, but Gucci wont honour the guarantee unless it is serviced by Gucci recognised types (who tend to be in Switzerland charging £115 to change a battery )

iota · 30/10/2007 14:58

Earlier this year, Ernest Jones sent my Gucci watch off for a new battery, service and resealing for about £45. This was the first time it had needed it in about 3/4 yrs.

binkleandflip · 30/10/2007 14:59

Then I would have been truly robbed - had I took them up on their offer at £115. As it is it's in the back of the kitchen drawer and now I have a lovely Breil.

EricL · 30/10/2007 15:07

£525? You are joking?

Does it come with a satellite phone and missile launcher?

FFS!

(If it does - i want one......)
