what is your personalised number plate going to say? (you don't have to say the words, I mean is it going to be your name etc.?)

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2007 20:54

Hmm, I'd buy the watch if I loved it and could afford it but not the numberplate, but only because I'm not keen on them.

well i can kind of afford it at the min! i went through areally bad patch at the beggining of teh year with my buisness and i worked really hard to get back on my feet and its paid off in heaps,i kind of feel like ...why not?!
ive been a single mum for 11 years and always worked full time to support us and after 11 years its finally paying off so i may just get the watch and the number plate!!

If you have "spare" money and you want to spend it on stuff for yourself then it would only be unreasonable if your kids were going without or something.

However ..... (deep breath, hard hat on) ..... You might get some responses questionning how tactful it is to be quite so specific (i.e. quoting figures) about how much you potentially have to spend on luxuries when many Mnetters are stressing out about how they're going to buy their kids presents this Xmas.

Sorry to be blunt.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/10/2007 20:58

I'm obviously on a different planet too...

Hekate · 28/10/2007 20:59

If your question was 'Would you spend £525 on a watch for yourself', then my answer would be no. Or Hell no.

But are you being unreasonable? If by buying it, you couldn't pay your mortgage, or food for the kids, I might suggest it was a little unwise But if you can afford it.....No. It's your money and nobody's business but your own what you do with it.

catsmother · 28/10/2007 20:59

Congratulations on sorting out your business BTW .... not at all easy as a single mum (I know). But still think it a little tactless to bandy figures about, sorry.

smeeinit · 28/10/2007 20:59

err read my last post catsmotehr ive been there and know what its like not to afford a pint of milk or a a loaf of bread,BUT ive worked hard to be able to afford my luxeries and make no excuses or aploigies for quoting how much im going to spend on myself.

I will hold my hands up to being jealous as hell that you have so much more money than me!

Was that too honest?

LyraSilvertongue · 28/10/2007 21:01

You buy Christmas presents for yourself?
If you can afford it, why not.

smeeinit · 28/10/2007 21:01

and i cant spell?!!!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 28/10/2007 21:03

for a watch?

not my thing, but hey, if you have money to burn why not?

personalised plates = naff, nouveau, bourgeios WAG type.

yuk.

foxinsocks · 28/10/2007 21:03

lol

if you have set these as goals (and it sounds as though you have), and you've achieved what you needed to afford them, then go for it.

You've worked hard to earn that money and it's yours to do with what you want!

smeeinit · 28/10/2007 21:03

bubblepop · 28/10/2007 21:07

god you must be loaded i can't even afford to buy my dd winter clothes. she went for a walk in the park 2day in her pj bottoms becos the 2 other pair of pants she's got were in the wash

oreGOREnianabroad · 28/10/2007 21:08

yes, it seems unreasonable to me.

fair enough, get a treat for yourself, but it's only a watch. just coz it has a flashy name on it won't make it work better.

give half of it to charity and you'd still have more than enough for a decent watch.

agree with expat about number plates.

Sorry if that seems boring, but you did ask.

smeeinit · 28/10/2007 21:10

thats it two dales!
is it nice? it looks lovely, my parents are staying at teh lodges up teh road so we are meeting them there for the weekend.

bubblepop no im not atall loaded its just that my hard work is finally paying off, i know exactly what its like not having enough money to buy your kids clothes, my ds1 went through a winter when he was 4ish without any socks as i couldnt afford to buy any.

bluenosesaint · 28/10/2007 21:12

Not unreasonable at all IMO - you have worked hard for your money and you have the money to spare ...go spend it hun
