To tell my friend I don't want her "birthday gift"?

Three weeks ago my friend asked me to look after her 2 hamsters whilst her house was being decorated.
I have never had hamsters and I don't really like them but she was desperate for someone to look after them so I said yes.
When she has asked how they are I have been positive "oh they are fine don't worry we are getting on great" etc etc
Today is my birthday ..she rings me
As my gift to you I'm letting you keep the hamsters ...
So I said "oh no don't be silly,I've enjoyed having them but they belong to you"
She replied .."no no I insist ..."
I don't want them
Aibu to say no ?
I think she just can't be arsed with them anymore tbh

Happy Birthday OP. I had a hamster after being badgered by my kids when they were young. It was cute but bloody thing slept all day and made loads of noise at night! Don't argue it further with her, just take them back when she's in, knock on her door and walk away.

CallmeIT · 18/01/2021 18:15

Christ, never offer to babysit!

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 18/01/2021 18:16

Where do you find these people?!

Cuntitinthebin · 18/01/2021 18:17

Happy birthday, OP 🐹

Onedropbeat · 18/01/2021 18:18

That’s one example of a truly shit friend

Onedropbeat · 18/01/2021 18:18

Her not you

RedHelenB · 18/01/2021 18:19

Don't see why the hamsters needed to come to you in the first place. You need to say a definite no, I don't want them.

Theunamedcat · 18/01/2021 18:20

Tell her your allergic she needs to get them ASAP

IrisAtwood · 18/01/2021 18:20

Those poor hamsters 😕

islockdownoveryet · 18/01/2021 18:21

I laughed at the cf and no I insist. This is one of those times you are going to have to be blunt say you did her a favour but hamsters are not for me and you don’t want them . Will drop them round the next day .

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 18/01/2021 18:22

Cheeky cow. Go round when you know she's in and drop them off. Don't take no for an answer.

Theunamedcat · 18/01/2021 18:22

Or do you have friends who like hamsters? They might have a better life than with your cheeky friend

islockdownoveryet · 18/01/2021 18:22

@RedHelenB

Yeah I thought that too . Very convenient
ktp100 · 18/01/2021 18:23

Don't even bother making an excuse, OP!

You don't need to giver her a reason apart from YOU DON'T WANT THEM!!

What a cheeky cow she is!!

TatianaBis · 18/01/2021 18:23

Cheeky fucker award-worthy.

SpudsandGravy · 18/01/2021 18:23

WTF? Shock Poor hamsters :-(

WhereamI88 · 18/01/2021 18:24

Holy shit make sure you never babysit the kids!!!

FabbyMagic · 18/01/2021 18:24

Don’t give excuses like you’re too busy etc, be more upfront and say you actually don’t want them but thanks! Otherwise she might think you are just being nice!

FabbyMagic · 18/01/2021 18:24

Have you accidentally been too complimentary about them during the week as well? Wink

luckylavender · 18/01/2021 18:25

CF. Tell her you don't want them. Maybe that you don't even like them.

Lookslikerainted · 18/01/2021 18:26

She’s a cf.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 18/01/2021 18:26

I wouldn’t even give them back to her to be honest she sounds like a terrible pet owner. They’d be better off in a rescue than with her imo.

viques · 18/01/2021 18:27

Write out a card, happy Christmas 2021. Attach to cage, deliver with a smile.

WhereYouLeftIt · 18/01/2021 18:27

@harrietbarrier33

If it was a dog I would have kept him/her but me and hamsters aren't the greatest friends. I'm going to just say no. No I don't want your hamsters but Thankyou,I'm just too busy with work and it working be fair on them.
I think it would be better to go with "I was looking after your hamsters as a favour to you - I do not want them. You need to come and pick them up now."
whatwedontknow · 18/01/2021 18:27

@WhereamI88

😂😂

Three weeks to decorate her house? Three days would be a cheek, why couldn’t she put them in another room? Take them back now.
