Dog poo-ing on our garden every morning and evening. AIBU to say something?

We live in a quiet area with just three houses in a sort of cul de sac. We are part of a small estate but at the bottom of it. Nobody comes down here unless they live here or are delivering something really.

However there is a cut through at the top and every morning and evening for the past week, a woman has started appearing from this cut through and walking past our house with her large dog. And every morning and evening, this dog is doing a poo on my front garden.

It cocks it's leg on my bushes and had a wee and then settles down for a poo. And yes - she does stand there watching and picks it up

The reason I know? We have security cameras. The reason I've not said anything to her yet? I have annoyingly either been asleep/ in the shower/ in the garage/ out shopping. Nearly managed it this morning but by the time I'd opened my front door, she was turning the corner and I wasn't about to screech!

So ... onto my AIBU. My DH thinks that as she's picking it up then meh, not a massive deal. I think differently - I don't want my front lawn used as a dog toilet and I think it's bad manners to allow your dog to do this. Once I sort of get - but this is now becoming a pattern.

AIBU to literally stake out my camera notifications today and ensure I can get to my front door and ask her to stop immediately? Or just ignore it?

@GypsyLee now cats are a different matter of course. It's no less disgusting though but people don't walk cats so far tricker to stop it. I'm surprised that you'd be cool with a dog shitting in your garden though!

I'll follow my cat tooWink

I'll follow my cat tooWink
If you’re the owner of the cat that does a stinking shit on my front garden every single morning then I’ll thank you for it Wink
hunchicklove · 18/01/2021 22:05

Cat poo is worse IMO, however, it's clearly not possible to pick up after a cat. Not ours anyway; I can't scale fences or run so fast, not at 7am anyway Smile

Lady089 · 18/01/2021 22:16

@AmoElCafe - Cats are free to roam, dogs are not and don’t be ridiculous it’s not an excuse, you can’t follow a cat around all day trying to clean up after them, which is what you’re suggesting.

hansgrueber · 18/01/2021 22:18

@TheABC

Another vote here for a fence.
With a strong electrical current running through.
StoneofDestiny · 18/01/2021 22:19

I do my very best to only let him pee on harmless, plantless gateposts and walls

I have a friend whose front gatepost stinks of dog urine - she doesn't even own a dog! Seriously - it's people's property - take them elsewhere to pee.

LucyLime · 18/01/2021 22:26

@StoneofDestiny I agree. A gatepost or planter isn't fair game for a dog to piss on. I think anything that is owned by someone else should not be pissed upon

I’m not suggesting anything. I’m just saying that cat shit on a garden is equally as vile as dog shit.

People moaning about cats now. For goodness sake. I have three cats and I have three litter trays in my house, but I cannot guarantee that they will not poop in someone's garden. We have a cat flap and they love to roam. Do people seriously expect us to confine out outside cats to a life of indoors because of a little bit of cat shit? At least we don't need to worry about stepping in cat shit when we go for a walk. We all have to share this world. We all have to shit. Can we not just be tolerant of each other please. They are many awful things happening on our world that are worth getting upset about, animal shit isn't one of these things.

Thismummyruns · 18/01/2021 22:45

We planted a small hedge row last year in our front garden. So much of it has gone bad.
Little did I know (being at home has made this a discovery) that the entire estate has a dog each and most of them walk past ours to the nearest dog walking areas and it's like a conveyor belt of dog piss.
Apparently this is fine according to the local Facebook page.

Can I come and poo in your garden?

I wont even let mine poop by someones gate or door - this is bang out of order and astonishing that she is allowing it. I have seen other dog owners do it, and can only assume they are the same kind of assholes who wouldnt pick it up if they could get away with it.

sadeyes21 · 18/01/2021 22:56

@LucyLime
If you want to look like a mad women then fine. Just be sure to bag and bin it when you're done. 👍🏻

jeaux90 · 18/01/2021 23:01

Good outcome OP

My neighbours have 3 cats and they used to shit in my lovely garden

A few pump action water pistols and high pitch cat detectors later and they've finally buggered off.

And no, it's not ok for cats to shit in other peoples garden, the same as it's not ok for dogs to.

Yohoheaveho · 18/01/2021 23:04

it's not ok for cats to shit in other peoples garden
I agree, and it's not ok for cat owners to laugh it off with 'oh hahaha you know what cats are like'
bottom line this is your animal creating a health hazard in someone else private property!
That said, I'm not sure how the problem of cat soiling should be dealt with? (apart from water pistols?)

Yohoheaveho · 18/01/2021 23:07

do people seriously expect us to tolerate toxic fecal matter in our gardens, our private outdoor spaces, just because they like to keep cats??

I’m not sure it’s
@LucyLime
who’s looking like the mad woman here!

jeaux90 · 18/01/2021 23:25

@Yohoheaveho well said

LoveSummerNotIcecream · 18/01/2021 23:27

Why don’t you get some sprinklers? Then when you see her switch them on. Hopefully she’ll get the message...

LucyLime · 18/01/2021 23:39

Cats are a different matter as in it's so much harder to sort out. A dog has to be under the control of its owner and a cat doesn't.

However, shit from someone else's pet in your garden is all the same. When we had a cat doing this in the garden I surprisingly didn't react the same as I have done over this woman and her dog Grin I sprinkled lavender oil over the grass where it was doing it and also scattered some lavender buds from our bushes there too. They appeared to do the trick

Explains why there’s copious amounts of dig shit around everywhere - Lots of owners don’t actually give a shit!

sadeyes21 · 18/01/2021 23:55

@Yohoheaveho
You cannot keep animals out of your 'private outdoor space' unless you bring it indoors...

Not every cat is owned, some may be feral and some may be stray.

I accept that I am sharing this planet with humans and non-humans alike. The occasional fox, badger or cat may do its business in my garden and that's ok.

Don't even know why I am bothering to argue anymore. You all seem to want an empty world.

LucyLime · 19/01/2021 00:00

@sadeyes21 but I accept wolf animal poo in my garden. Not an issue at all in terms of me having to clear it. And to a certain extent I understand cat poo - I'll clear it and use a deterrent to stop it happening again - I wouldn't be expecting a cat owner to pop their cat on a lead for example

But a dog is totally different and I'm struggling to understand why you think it's ok for an owner to allow their dog to shit - repeatedly and on purpose - in someone's garden.

So yeah - it's hard for me to get why I'm inhabiting a world with folk like you who think it's fair enough.
