To ask which film couples you feel wouldn't last long?

So many films end with a loved up couple, few would last the distance.
Here's my take:
Ariel and Eric (little mermaid): she would miss her merfamily (strange as they are) and it would be a massive culture shock for her. He'd get annoyed that she didn't understand Danish aristocracy and social protocol. She's 16 ffs! She'd realise there were plenty more men with legs out there, it wouldn't end well.
There must be loads.

Top Gun

Maverick and Charlie would have split up after a few months when she realised maverick was gay and grieving his true love.

Respectabitch · 17/01/2021 13:46

Minority report - the issues that split them up are still there at the end of the film, few couples survive the loss of a child

I've always been 100% confident that everything after TC getting captured is his "dream" in captivity, and his getting back together with Lara is definitely part of that. Cos of course him solving a murder will overcome all their issues as a couple.

Also his wife can't seem to remember if she's named Lara or Laura, which could be an issue.

wizzbangfizz · 17/01/2021 13:49

Came on here to say pretty woman that would never have worked.

Agree they pair off and marry v young in the magical world of Harry Potter.

Also pacey and joey, would he really be content trailing after her and her literary career?

StepOutOfLine · 17/01/2021 13:51

@BlackCatShadow

Tom Cruise and Kelly McGillis. She'd get fed up of having to lift him onto a box for a snog. And his stroppy tantrums would get on her nerves.

I think also it turned out she was actually gay. Maybe him too. Wink

The worst is The Graduate. Dustin Hoffman is so creepy in that movie. He's horrible to her, stalks her, and then interrupts her wedding. What on Earth was she thinking leaving with him?

Or him turning out to be a lizard man. Grin I still luffs him in TG though.
stillusingxmaszoflora · 17/01/2021 13:52

@Graphista I'm in the 'Ferris doesn't actually exist' camp but I still don't think Sloane and Cameron would last as Sloane is completely in love with herself.

I completely agree about Point Break.
I love Jonny Utah as much as the next woman but his relationship is built on a tissue of lives.
Wouldn’t want to be around when she meets up with his dead parents

NoProblem123 · 17/01/2021 13:52

LIES not flipping lives Grin

YouBoughtMeAWall · 17/01/2021 13:53

Grease 2

Steph would have dumped Michael by the September after realising he was a total borebag who had to read a book to learn how to do foreplay and give straight back to Johnny how would promptly drop Paulette like a hot potato.

YouBoughtMeAWall · 17/01/2021 13:55

Give= gone

ivfbabymomma1 · 17/01/2021 13:55

I'm sorry to say it but Ross & Rachel? They broke up and got back together far to many times to trust the last episode was the rest of forever.

NoProblem123 · 17/01/2021 13:59

Kelly in Castaway with that opportunist dentist.
Kelly belongs with Chuck.

Celia will realised that Mike Wyzalkski will always let her down and move onto someone less career-focussed and ready to settle down.

Annie will not settle for that Irish guy in Bridesmaids, and will end up with rich plastic surgeon pal of her posh freinds.

Chambored · 17/01/2021 14:00

@ghostyslovesheets

CutToChase
Maria and Captain Von Trapp. After a while I think she would start ruminating about how
A) He was a real dick to her initially and
B) He sacked off the Baronness pretty easily

I think she would stay for three children but would.grow increasingly resentful over the years

erm they where married for 20 years and buried side by side!

Ha ha - yes indeed!!
@CutToChase - you obviously haven’t read Maria’s book which inspired the film, and details their life together after they escaped Austria.

littlepattilou · 17/01/2021 14:00

Well I never knew Maria and Captain Von Trapp were a real life couple! Shock

Every day's a school day on here. Grin

I agree with many of these couples. Especially Johnny and Baby from Dirty Dancing. Very mismatched I feel. Danny and Sandy from Grease would have lasted IMO, and Jack and Rose from Titanic would have lasted, but only for a decade. Then she would have got bored I think.

Agree. R & R would have got together (after the last 'I got off the plane' episode,) as there was genuine affection and love there, and they had a kiddie together. BUT it would have only lasted 6 or 7 years. They would have stayed civil though, and been good parents to Emma.

I sometimes wish FRIENDS would return.. I know it's 15 years since it finished, but I'd like to see what their lives are like now. (And their kids!) Then again, maybe it's best to remember it as it was; a brilliant, funny sitcom.

viques · 17/01/2021 14:05

Top Gun, Charlie would have realised, hopefully not too late, that the man she loved might have been an ace fighter pilot who did all his own stunts and was starting to get in touch with his emotions , but in reality he was Tom Cruise. With all the baggage that brought to the relationship.......

Catty1720 · 17/01/2021 14:07

I feel like a kid whose just discovered Father Christmas doesn’t exist. All my happy endings shot down in tremendous flames by all this very logical if not heartbreaking reality 🤣

ivfbabymomma1 · 17/01/2021 14:08

@littlepattilou I wish we could see how it all panned out as well!! They owe us that much!

Toddlerandtwinstobe · 17/01/2021 14:10

I really hated that Bridget got back with Mark in the last movie. I wanted her to be with the hot new guy.

He was so dull, and if they couldn’t make it work after 10 years then what hope do they have. (This is just going from the movies!)

Lots of people would love a friends update, me included. But I do suspect that a modern day version would be completely disappointing. It was of its time and they’d be writing in a very different context today. I don’t think it would hit the same spot.

viques · 17/01/2021 14:18

Amy and Laurie in Little Women. Sooner or later he would have called her Jo in the throes of passion.......

GreenSlide · 17/01/2021 14:20

Happy Gilmore and Virginia would never have stayed together. She'd have got sick of his slovenly ways and foul temper before long and found herself a nice gentleman golfer to go out with.

GreenSlide · 17/01/2021 14:25

I was also unconvinced by the Vicar of Dibley's marriage.

TennisBunny · 17/01/2021 14:29

Isn't that the whole point though? That actual after the romance and the scandal and the drama of it all... Theres nothing there. That's why they have that iconic scene in the back of the wedding car, where once they stopped waving... There's nothing.

Myyearmytime · 17/01/2021 14:31

The sound of music was based on true story . Google to see what happened
TennisBunny · 17/01/2021 14:32

Bus even, not wedding car!
Just had to go an rewatch the scene.
