Might be worth listening to this later. BBC reporting on the ITV crew and their first hand account of the storming of Congress.

Yes -- it's a madhouse here. I was able to get my vaccine appointment but the provider is very much uncertain if we'll actually be able to get the dose. The federal issues are huge news.

Same here. My provider is ready to vaccinate all of their patients but can't get vaccines from the federal government and is being given no clear idea of when they will.

Today's news will have just made it far far worse for them.

Democrat state btw.

PerkingFaintly · 15/01/2021 21:06

Oh I'm glad to hear you've least got the appointment, gwennah. Fingers crossed for them having the dose by then.

My friend (HCP) had their first dose a few weeks ago here, and is just waiting for the second dose now.

cyclingmad · 15/01/2021 21:06

@pointythings

cyclingmad so how do you feel about Trump's federal execution killing spree?
How do you feel about it both being Democrats and Republicans....The death machinery in Terre Haute — and the legal infrastructure that sustains it — is a bipartisan creation, animated by prosecutors and judges whose power has been derived from Democratic and Republican administrations alike.

How do you feel about people who have clearly been convicted of murder being able to live their lives? If it was someone you loved murdered how would you feel?

Death penalty still exists federal or not? So whats your point exactly? Or is jusf because its Trump? All those other death penalties at state level are okay and not worth mentioning huh?

I mean this is the whole point I've been saying you all love to jump up and down when its Trump but you can't be universal about your point.

Where have you been? Why have you not made this point before about death penalty at state level? Why is only applicable to Trump? Because state level death penalty us ok cos its not same as is being Federal and a Presisent....cos if that is your argument that's twisted

pointythings · 15/01/2021 21:13

I hope cycling is being paid well.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/01/2021 21:13

Why do the words "On yer bike, sunshine" come to mind with such force and clarity?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 15/01/2021 21:14

Meanwhile the National Rifle Association says it has filed a petition for bankruptcy.

(Thoughts and prayers.)

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/01/2021 21:16

When you quote from other sources it is good etiquette to attribute the quote rather than making it look like something you came up with.

This is from The Intercept theintercept.com/2021/01/10/federal-execution-spree-trump/
Biden lays out $1.9 trillion Covid relief package with $1,400 stimulus checks
The "American Rescue Plan” also includes $416 billion to help launch a national vaccination program with a goal of vaccinating 50 million people and reopening schools in his first 100 days.

www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/biden-lays-out-1-9-trillion-covid-19-relief-package
Oh he is already reneging on his election promises and he has even started lol shat happened to the $2000 checks he was promising and made them the center of his Georgia runoff elections , now its $1400. What else is he about to back down on...Will be interesting to see

His poor voters already been mugged off
Can't trust any politicians can you, dem or Rep both as bad as each other

pointythings · 15/01/2021 21:17

cycling I am opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances. But once again you resort to whataboutery instead of answering a specific question.

Trump has triggered more federal executions in the final months of his presidency than any president in 100 years. It is convention to pause federal executions during a transition of power - Trump isn't doing that. So what is your opinion on that specific point? Come on, let's have a straight answer without any squirrels.

I'd also like to see your response to ZZTop's response about vaccinations, which clearly blows your Daily Mail article out of the water.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 15/01/2021 21:17

"Cyclingmadly" and "Claig" - are the two related? Enquiring minds need to know.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 15/01/2021 21:18

Cyclingmad- I abhor the death penalty. Murdering another person is not right, but killing someone for that does not bring the original victim back- and so many people that are executed are innocent or have compelling reasons why they acted like they did - Ruth Ellis.

Stop being antagonistic for no reason.

NotaRealLawyer · 15/01/2021 21:18

Straight copy and paste from Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty Face Book there pp.

Tsk tsk. Everyone else gives their sources the courtesy of a mention.

NotaRealLawyer · 15/01/2021 21:20

Ah ZZ, it's Intercept too I see .
As cycling might say "Lol!"

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/01/2021 21:20

Interesting read about which states favour execution.

'Executions are mostly a red-state phenomenon — which helps explain Trump’s advocacy'
www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/03/13/executions-are-mostly-red-state-phenomenon-which-helps-explain-trumps-advocacy/

From that article this chart - hopefully attached.

Should people still be feeding nuts to the squirrel? 🐿

We've already received $600 in December/January. The $1400 makes it up to the promised $2000.

Do try to keep up.

boatyardblues · 15/01/2021 21:23

Loving the Biden pun in the new header. 👌

pointythings · 15/01/2021 21:25

Good work, ZZTop. But no doubt cycling will take it as 'Democratic states are equally bad because they do some executions too. Maths not being their strong suit.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/01/2021 21:26

I'd also like to see your response to ZZTop's response about vaccinations, which clearly blows your Daily Mail article out of the water.

I also never got a response to my detailed explanation in an earlier thread from a friend (former head of Maine CDC, currently head of Maine Health) talking about the actual challenges of distributing the vaccines.

Still, if the Daily Mail says GOVERNORS ARE TRYING TO UNDERMINE TRUMP then who are we to argue with mere facts?

www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-19-vaccine-doses.html

TheNorthWestPawsage · 15/01/2021 21:28

My dear old dad used to say "Two wrongs don't make a right". Capital punishment is wrong no matter who's signature is on the filthy piece of paper. Trump and his ghouls just happen to get their jollies from it.

A clean slate of some sort at least...
The US government will spend $500,000 deep-cleaning the White House before Biden's inauguration.
news.yahoo.com/us-government-spend-500-000-162704097.html

"There's always been a deep clean between administrations, but we've never seen anything like this," she told ABC News' "Powerhouse Politics" podcast.
.............
A deep clean between presidents is usually carried out by White House staff in the six-hour slot when both the incoming and outgoing presidents are at the inauguration ceremony. Alongside cleaning the property, the workforce of up to 100 White House staff carry out small maintenance jobs.

The White House has 132 rooms spread over six stories. This includes 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, and 28 fireplaces.
