"You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." (Abraham Lincoln.)

"Half the people can be part right all of the time, an'
Some of the people can be all right part of the time,
But all the people can't be all right all of the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that." (Bob Dylan)

I need to do better editing:

I just cringed at the thought of a 'hyuge' May Day style parade of weapons, like the one the Pentagon put the kibosh on some time ago.

@NotaRealLawyer

Admittedly it doesn't look brilliant to the world. But it's Americans that need to see it first. And be in equal measure reassured, ashamed, and horrified. Pence was on the TV addressing some troops( missed the start so not sure where). Apparently, Trumps legacy of "never having started a War", has been met with derision by News reporting from all over the world pointing at the troops on DC streets. "The War At Home" it's being called. Looking at those pictures reminded me of the streets of NI, at the height of the Troubles. (As they were euphemistically called.)
Looking at those pictures reminded me of the streets of NI, at the height of the Troubles.

I don't pretend to understand something that has roots going back 500 years (or more) like The Troubles. But recently I've often thought how easy it would be for the US to devolve into sectarian 'war'. There are peaceful and violent people in either camp.

Anarchy works both sides of the street.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/17/rudy-giuliani-associate-john-kiriakou-trump-pardon

'An associate of Rudy Giuliani told a former CIA officer a presidential pardon was “going to cost $2m”, the New York Times reported on Sunday in the latest bombshell to break across the last, chaotic days of Donald Trump’s presidency.

The report detailed widespread and in some cases lucrative lobbying involving people seeking a pardon as Trump’s time in office winds down. The 45th president, impeached twice, will leave power on Wednesday with the inauguration of Joe Biden.'

And once again, Scrotus is putting layers (in this case, Rudy) between him and 'pardon for dollars' schemes. I'm sure there are plenty of others of his minions working the crowd and setting up ways to launder the pardon payments.

Disgusting.

I told DH he's my new 'hall pass'.

You can marry him when I'm done with him. 😉

AKissAndASmile · 17/01/2021 18:22

What does hall pass mean?Grin

AKissAndASmile · 17/01/2021 18:29

A bit greedy of you, but I'm sure DH understands 😆😉

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/01/2021 18:30

Trump likes to mention Lincoln quite often, doesn't he. While I was looking for the wording of the Lincoln quote, I came across a couple of others it might have done Trump good to know.

How many legs does a dog have if you call his tail a leg? Four. Saying that a tail is a leg doesn't make it a leg.

I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.

No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.

You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.

lionheart · 17/01/2021 18:30

I hadn't noticed this report (apologies if it was posted here already).

www.rawstory.com/capitol-riot-2649981661/

'In video captured by a New Yorker reporter, pro-Trump insurrectionists are filmed rifling through documents left behind by lawmakers who fled for their lives and then using their phones to take pictures of what they found while others trashed the place.

The video, filmed by Luke Mogelson shows the chaos on the floor during the Jan. 6th invasion with one man yelling, "Where the f*ck is Nancy?" as others chanted "treason."'

A 'hall pass' is permission to sleep with a person with no marital repercussions.

It's typically used 'tongue in cheek' for a celebrity or public figure that one has absolutely NO chance of meeting. And if you did meet them, they'd most likely have NO interest in sleeping with you anyway.

And trust me, that guy would TOTALLY not want to sleep with me. I'm old enough to be his er, um, much older sister. 😆

lionheart · 17/01/2021 18:31

Is the 'hall pass' a bit like a 'pardon' but you don't have to buy it?

AcrossthePond55 · 17/01/2021 18:33

Oh, I see you must have googled it before I posted the explanation.

lol. A 'pre-emptive' pardon.
AKissAndASmile · 17/01/2021 18:36

Yes pond 😂
What did your DH say when you said that? Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 17/01/2021 18:38

Just saw a brief clip of Rudy walking towards the WH on CNN. Looks like he's getting ready to 'pull a Weinstein' if he runs into legal trouble.

He was all stooped over and walking as if he had pebbles in his shoes. LQuite different from 'Mr Pep' at the rally encouraging 'trial by combat'.

Breaking: the New York Times reported that several of Trump's staff and some of his attorneys are selling access to pardons to a wide range of felons who can afford to pay bribes.
