Trump is a hideous creature, like the four horsemen of the apocalypse and the grim reaper rolled into one massive orange shroud of death, disease, pestilence, rage, war, hunger, emnity, licentiousness and vanity.

Good summary. I agree. He is the ugly magnifying mirror of all that's rotten in western society. Soon he will just be a lonely golfer...

Re the Mexican Border Wall and Trump's 2016 election campaign signature promise, this BBC article from October states

with Democratic rival presidential candidate Joe Biden saying that, while he would not tear down the barrier Mr Trump has built, he would not expand it further.

Him taking up residence at Mar-a-Lago may be worth its own thread.

I suspect he thinks he'll get away with a long court process and possibly paying off or threatening some judges.

Roussette · 17/01/2021 10:46

Ds (the aforementioned student of American politics) really didn't want Biden as the Democrat candidate. He was/is a real Saunders fan (and was 4 years ago too - he never liked Clinton). But once Biden got the nomination - and especially after Bernie endorsed him - he supported him as the best chance to get Trump out

What a fascinating time for your DS to be studying American politics! My DD was a huge fan of Bernie and was really disappointed when he pulled out, but knows what has to be done.

Her and her friends have let me be part of a WhatsApp group called 'Election' started just before the election but still ongoing. I love hearing their views.

@Arobase

I made my comments showing Biden is no better thats all, but time again its just oh well its too long ago and we are talking about today, really I don't see a date stamp on what time period we can only talk about

Why are you fixating on this, @cyclingmad, and not answering queries about how on earth anything Biden has done equates to the horrors Trump has perpetrated?

Well as I have said his 1994 crime policy for one, widening the reasons for death penalty. How many have been sentenced to the death penalty because of that, we know 4 have been executed because of it so far. How many are waiting for theirs because of his policy...

I happen to think even doing one is one too many so whether its 14 under Trump administration of which 4 are because of Bidens policy they are both atrocious

Now people here love to play the numbers game as say wellc4 is still less than 14 but we are talking about people here so 4 or 14 they are both atrocious

JamieLeesCurtains · 17/01/2021 10:48

I read that, @CaveMum, that Mar-a-Lago only has resort status not residential status planning-wise, so the Trumps can't live there permanently, plus the locals don't want them there all year round.

More legal stuff beckons.

@Destinysdaughter

Saddened to see this thread being derailed but you've all put up a valiant effort!

Has anyone else received a private message about this thread recently? I have and it was a bit disconcerting, but I've decided just not to engage.

Anyhow, I'd love to know what you all think about the rioters demanding that Trump pardon them? Bloody cheek of it!

Shock

Wha... Someone really, really wants to derail these threads, don't they?

I wonder why? Why now?

Are they Trumpie? Or general disruptivists for whom any chaos or divisision is the right answer, who are afraid thing may settle down once the disruptor-in-chief loses his podium.

PerkingFaintly · 17/01/2021 10:52

In case that was ambiguous, I'm refering to the person who went to the trouble of private messaging.

HaggisUk @HaggisUk

#Ridge - Did Donald Trump as act like a demagogue?

James Comey(former FBI director) - He's a dictionary definition of a demagogue... willing to say anything to get people to support him... lying works... & that's why all of us need to fight back against it.

Ds didn't sleep much for days after the election as he was watching the soap opera of the results. We were decorating at the time and it helped us do an awful lot (really big room with a very high ceiling) as we had the TV on, alternating between CBS, MSN and CNN. So in a sense, we were able to keep him company (he's up in Aberdeen): lots of WhatsApp messages were exchanged Grin

He was initially really fearful that Trump had won on the night as they started counting - but his prediction had been for Biden to win with 290 electoral college votes. He held his faith - and he was one state out Grin. Better to be out positively than negatively Wink

DuncinToffee · 17/01/2021 10:59

Maybe Trump can move to Norfolk

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-norfolk-55469093
White House: The full-sized Oval Office replica in Norfolk

It was built for the 2018 film Watergate and is now regularly seen in films, dramas and also news reports.

Roussette · 17/01/2021 11:01

Yes and Javanka have already been turned down for membership of the 'Country Club' on the private island where they've bought a property costing squillions.

I read an article (will hunt for it) talking about what MarALago and surrounding area was like, and it was likened to The Truman show. Trumpy is sure going to miss the cut and thrust of New York.

CaveMum according to CNN, Mar a Largo members can stay a max of 21 days in a year, but no more than 3 consecutively. Apparently the town managers haven't enforced recent breaches (Trump been there at least 30 days in last year) but talk is they might start to do so once Trump isn't president.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 17/01/2021 11:03

No more than 7 rather, i.e. 3 week long stays.

If Only.

I think this is a rather naive view of the subject tbh.

Until Trump is locked up with no contact with the rest of the world to convey messages to his supporters (unlikely even if he is sent to jail) or he is 6 foot under (and even then there will be those who claim they were given messages prior to his death or even those who claim he has contacted them beyond the grave) he will continue to be a presence.

The trouble with the US Presidency is it immortalises and creates a history/myth that continues a legacy well after a president has gone. There are many that have largely slipped from public consciousness - but these are the only ones who presided before any living human.

Trump is likely to be a president that outlives even the human life. Clinton and the Bushes and probably Obama will slip from memories after the death of the generations who lived through them. Trump on the other hand is likely to be more like the Anti-Lincoln as he created such a key conflict and fracture within American society.

minou123 · 17/01/2021 11:04

@Lweji

No word on the pardons yet, they will be coming thick and fast in the next few days.

From work shy Trump? Maybe.

Can I ask a question about Pardons? I've tried to Google , but no luck.

How long does it take to pardon someone? Surely there is paperwork involved and as Trump only had 3 days left, he won't have time?

Unless he can just wake up one morning and declare "I Pardon myself!"

Biden’s pledge to halt border wall construction would save US $2.6bn, Pentagon estimates.

Thank you Cacacoisfarraige.

The one shown specifies what the pardon is for, so you're right - how would you write a pardon for hypothetical crimes?

DGRossetti · 17/01/2021 11:20

You know these idiots facing jail time now who are expecting Trump to pardon them ?

What's the betting that when he doesn't they still won't blame him ? Instead they will reel off a shopping list of bingo buzzwords ("Biden", "Clinton", "The Democrats", "China", "them" - or "they", being woke and pronoun aware ...).

It's hard to have sympathy with people who want so hard to be fucked up the arse that they will climb over broken glass to do it.

DGRossetti · 17/01/2021 11:23

I’m not sure what a general hypothetical crime pardon would look like though.

Here's one for unspecified persons - Carters draft dodgers pardon - if it helps.

www.justice.gov/pardon/proclamation-4483-granting-pardon-violations-selective-service-act

minou123 · 17/01/2021 11:27

That does help. Thank you DGRossetti

I think, that something like that would take ages to draft and then sign off. Not sure if Trump has time.
Especially if he is spending time sulking and meeting My Pillow guy

prettybird · 17/01/2021 11:30

That might be why Giuliani has been seen visiting the White House.

so any blanket pardons will need to be double checked for errors in their drafting Wink

Thank you Cacacoisfarraige.

I have my doubts as to whether it will stand up in court tbh.
