Cycling
Ive been a lurker for last 4 years this thread has been around 120 of them and been watching the car crash of America right now im not sure ur point on here, ok so u dont like joe Biden, fair enough, a jam sandwich would be a better president of America right now ! What r u expecting to achieve?

Gingaaarghpussy · 16/01/2021 23:55

Yo @cyclingmad.

Whut?
You appear to be heading for an echo chamber.

Anniegetyourgun · 17/01/2021 00:03

I apologise to squirrels. They're cute, fluffy and keep their acorns to themselves.

You aren't joking, Duggee. Anyone remember that episode of Have I Got News for You where (I think it was) Roy Hattersley was supposed to be a guest but didn't turn up, and they put a tub of lard in his place and the team he was supposed to be on won anyway? I suppose lard is a terminally working-class substance though, couldn't have that in the White House, jam sandwich it is. Or jelly sandwich, as it has to be American to qualify.

NotaRealLawyer · 17/01/2021 00:13

I remember that Annie! Grin
The tub of lard was on Paul Mertons' side, I think.

A jelly sandwich is not enough for the Great Stomach.
I'm thinking:
His preferred order, according to Lewandowski, is “a full McDonald’s dinner of two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a small chocolate shake – a total of 2,430 calories.” Trump spoke to CNN host Anderson Cooper about his order, saying: “It’s great stuff.”

terrywynne · 17/01/2021 00:17

I have studied a lot of history (though not I hasten to add 20th century US history). What happened 20-30 years does matter. Amongst other things it explains why we are where we are now. If I were to write a biography of Biden (not that I will because wrong country and time period!) I would absolutely be investigating his past voting, bills etc - their impact, why he moved on from them etc etc.

But most of us here are discussing politics as they play out right now. When it comes to politicians right now I want to know a) what are their current policies b) where they have changed their stance on an issue, is it part of a trend of flip flopping for personal gain or more nuanced development of ideas and c) how do they compare to other politicians right now?

And yes sometimes that is more of a least worst rather than a strong support for someone. On the basis of the past 4 years, Biden is clearly least worst in my opinion not 'as bad as'. There are democrats that would align closer with what I value (not that I am a US voter) but they would not have got elected in the US at the moment imo. That does not mean that Biden is above criticism or that he will be recorded in history as an amazingly good politician or the best president.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that cycle lady has moved on to race baiting now? Hmm

The truth will out.

Arobase · 17/01/2021 00:36

I have repeatedly said they are bad as each other, therefore I do not support either.

But the evidence demonstrates that that is certainly not the case. When did Biden preside over 400,000 deaths and failed to take any effective steps to reduce those numbers? When did Biden suggest that ingesting bleach would cure a virus? When did Biden incite the storming of the Capitol?

Zebracat · 17/01/2021 00:42

The unbalanced cyclist had a colleague on the last thread called Donnysdongding, or something of that sort. I usually put it down to paid employment and hope they don’t stay in the job too long as that kind of work is corrosive, but this one has a lack of sophistication that suggests an amateur enthusiast.

Arobase · 17/01/2021 00:43

you seemingly are okay with state level execution but not federal and your only not okay about it cos its Trump doing it

I object to any sort of execution. I especially object to recent acceleration ordered by Trump. It's noticeable, @cyclingmad, that you haven't responded to invitations to express your views on that specific issue, particularly in light of the fact that the established convention is for executions in the US to be stopped in the period between the election and the accession of a new president.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/01/2021 00:44

I have put all my nuts in the cupboard and locked it.

In other words, I'm not feeding the squirrel.

In the immortal words of the Doobie Brothers:

"What a fool believes he sees
No wise man has the power to reason away.
What seems to be is always better than nothing,
Than nothing at all."

Zebracat · 17/01/2021 00:46

I think that the crucial difference between Biden and Trump is that Biden is not a raging psychopath.

NotaRealLawyer · 17/01/2021 00:52

@maggiethecat dog whistling going on for sure.
I've my own theory, but then I post on Black MN, sometimes, under a different name.
Some want this thread taken down/disrupted etc.
After all this time, these discussions, for some reason, are really bothering certain people. There are some cracking contributions on here, it's quite unique. Hence the interest.

Ignoring is the best. Trying to pick people off if they engage as definitely looking to goad people
No point trying to convince the Orange One to play nicely is there? Some people you can't engage with.
I wouldn't sit Trumpy down in my house and keep feeding him jam sandwiches and stroking his ego by giving him attention.IYSWIM
Flowers to everyone,

I think that the crucial difference between Biden and Trump is that Biden is not a raging psychopath.
Should that read cycle path?
Zebracat · 17/01/2021 00:59

@NotaRealLawyer
I was tempted!

Lweji · 17/01/2021 01:00

Some want this thread taken down/disrupted etc.

If that's the case, then good luck. There's a reason we're on over 120 threads, plus the claig threads and so many other suddenly vanishing pro-Trump pps.
The only thing that will end these threads is the Biden Presidency. Grin

Maybe...

NotaRealLawyer · 17/01/2021 01:06

I hope these threads do continue into the Biden era. I appreciate they take up so much time for the regular contributors.
These threads are quality.( I'm just a long time lurker broken cover. )

I'm not surprised or particularly concerned that the US have elected a president who once performed a role that allegedly extended the scope of crimes subject to the death penalty.

I'm delighted they have just elected a president in place of a grifter

I'm saddened that the justice system in the US, the republican party and the US police have murdered 13 prisoners and 999 civilians in the last 12 months.

I'm incredulous that the US government and the republican party have permitted a virus to have free reign throughout the US resulting in four hundred thousand deaths in the last 12 months.

If I'm outraged at anything it is at apologists for the president, the US government and the republican party who bear responsibility for enabling these tragedies.

Hello NotaRealLawyer.

So many unanswered questions about what has happened, how it happened, how to avoid repetition, and how to undo the damage.

That's before you even get to Biden. Smile

I've seen various types of posters with their own agendas appear on these threads over the years. The people for whom it's all about gender. The people for whom it's all about race. The people who want to convince everyone that Joe Biden is a paedophile or Hillary eats babies. Some are smart, provocative and interesting. Some, like our latest squirrel, just come across as a bit bored and argumentative. Generally they don't last all that long unless they're actually really here to read and talk.

I love these threads. I'm pretty clued up about American life, politics, etc - I've lived here for a long time and I've been paying attention. On these threads I learn new things all the time - whether it's about what it's like in other bits of the US, or about how systems work, or about news sources I hadn't discovered, or just really interesting thoughts and stuff.

I learn stuff from people here whether or not they've lived in the US. There are some really smart, well informed people on here.
