I think our resident squirrel is under the impression that the majority of posters on this thread are Democrats who need converting. Well, for a start, I doubt half the posters on this thread are even American. And in any case it's a bit late to run the "they're as bad as each other" line, even though it worked a treat in 2016, being as the election is already over. Even if Biden is Satan in a suit it's too bloody late, he's in.

I tell you what though, those oft-repeated references to Biden's crime legislation record very helpfully put paid to the charge that he's a radical liberal. Sanders kind-of, AOC if you must, Warren at a pinch - but none of them got the nomination. The US electorate in general (present company excepted), or more accurately the corporate sponsors of the legislature, are nowhere near ready to accept anything we Europeans would recognise as even slightly left of Atilla the Hun.

My heart actually sank when Joe Biden was announced as the Democratic nominee (and I certainly posted about it on these threads at the time) but not because of his record on the death penalty or any of his political history to he fair, but because of his fucking creepy, over familiar, hair sniffing antics which should make anyone's skin crawl. He is a flawed man by any standards and I am personally only pleased he is President Elect because of the alternative. There were many other, far better nominees that should have been selected.

However, I cannot agree that he is as bad as Scrotus.. the last four years have seen the US plunge on the national stage and become a laughing stock; unelected family members sat at tables with world leaders, removal of the US from global treaties set up to protect us all, hobnobbing and praising despots, childish playground name-calling like a 5 year old, imprisonment or indictment of 14 aides, donors and advisers with 60 people resigning or 'being fired' over the course of his tenure. There are far, far more 'norms' that have been stretched beyond recognition and even more that have been broken...

Joe Biden is problematic, he is certainly not some perfect saviour, and I would like to see Kamala Harris take over sooner rather than later. But he is still a better choice than fucking Trump - almost anyone is!
