Horn guy is apparently an 'active yoga practitioner'. As if that's relevan

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/01/2021 17:26

Great news Across. What are your state's requirements at this point?

I saw my doc the other day - he said given the speed the vaccine is being rolled out by the federal government, and my age/health, I should expect mine late summer.

DGRossetti · 16/01/2021 17:28

This story about Jenna Ryan was funny too.

Ryan dug in further on Twitter, retweeting election conspiracies and offering to provide real estate services if Texas secedes from the Union.

And she can stroll in to any gun store in the union and tool up.

As the Hyneman might say: That's your problem, right there.

Albert Watkins said his client had no criminal history and was an “active practitioner of yoga”. He also mentioned Chansley’s diet, which has caused him to reject non-organic meals in federal custody.

What admirable excuses for riot and insurrection, when you look at them right.

Roussette · 16/01/2021 17:32

It is laughable that these rioters are saying Donald asked them to go to the Capitol so they went. It's almost as if they don't have a mind of their own. Ummm wait....

Marjorie Taylor Greene is going to move to impeach Joe Biden on 21st January. Apparently.
For 'abuse of power' , not sure how that works given that he isn't in power...
She's the QAnon Repub who wore the 'censored' face mask whilst giving her views on Trump's impeachment. 'Censored' whilst talking to the whole country from the House, strange...Confused

We can't wait ... DH is in the next bracket up from me, and is convinced it's all going to happen for him on 14th February, no idea why

“Can’t face federal charges for exercising my right to freedom of speech and assembly,” [Ryan] wrote last week, adding that she was “an innocent person who is not a professional rioter.”

Hey, what's the pay like if you riot professionally?

TaxTheRatFarms · 16/01/2021 17:42

Very true pointy
And how galling to be held to higher moral standards by those who have neither morals nor standards.

DGRossetti · 16/01/2021 17:43

It is laughable that these rioters are saying Donald asked them to go to the Capitol so they went. It's almost as if they don't have a mind of their own.

it's not just laughable. It's a very serious problem for one: Donald Trump. It's a direct rebuttal of his insistence that "he didn't mean it" and might end up being used against him. There is plenty of scope for a court to say that POTUS has to be held to a higher standard (if there isn't already precedent). If it can be argued that these idiots were acting because their lame brains thought POTUS was ordering them to and should have been aware of that likelihood then he might yet be in big trouble.

It's not quite the "'FIRE !' in a crowded theater" scenario, but it's in that chapter.

If nothing else, a court ruling that officials have to consider the dim when they pronounce might be interesting.

And as I am typing and remembering cases where the defence was "I never really meant it", I suddenly remember the puzzlement over Trumps recent obsession with Henry II of will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest fame. Hmm

Lweji Checking on Biden's death penalty record.

I think the way to put it might be "he changed his mind, because after reflection he decided he had probably been wrong". This is of course in some way immoral. Also changing your mind can never be forgiven to any politician; I can remember when it used to be called "being open to new ideas", but now it is known as "a u-turn".

For me a U-turn is a sudden change or a very dramatic change.

According to the article, despite supporting the death penalty, Biden seemed to be concerned with miscarriages of justice. Nothing like GOP supporters who don't care if too many black people are in death row.
Reading it, seems more like political support. Or at least an evolution in how he feels about it.
Much better than doggedly pushing for last minute executions just because.

I didn't see this earlier but the present day attitude to politicians changing their mind/altering their position infuriates me (From all parts of the political spectrum).

If you had a 'bad' opinion and change your mind, you opponents will discredit you because you have always been 'perfect'

If a politician shared your viewpoint and later changed their mind you will lambast them for it and constantly drag up their old view (c.f. posters about Brexit supporters who were once pro EU)

You must therefore decide your views at the start of your career and stick with them throughout..

The idea that politicians change their minds in light of new information etc (And you may or may not agree but they are still allowed to do so without losing all credibility - I might have to make exception there for going full qanon) has been lost.

But of course the same people who expect a politician to never change their mind would be delighted if an opponent came over to their 'right' view
Honestly it hurts my head!

terrywynne · 16/01/2021 18:09

Personally while I may not have agreed with Biden's prior support for the death penalty. I can respect that he has taken on board other opinions and changed his stance rather than bullishly insisting he won't change his mind over 30 years whatever someone says to him.

I am also realistic that politicians will sometimes support a policy they later regret, that they will change their mind and that it is unlikely that there is any politician I will fully agree with on every issue from health, social, economic, housing, international, environmental policy etc.

I don't know ALL the groups, but I know the age limit has been lowered to 65 (from 75).

I'm in California and there are 'tiers and sub-tiers' as far as the State goes. They're saying to open up to all people in tier 1a (I think that's healthcare workers & residential facilities), and have now included more essential workers and people age 65+ who were in tier 1b.

But the individual counties are the ones doing the actual clinics and they seem to be deciding their own criteria. It looks like there are only 2 counties in the area I'm living in that are lowering the age to 65, luckily I'm living in one of them.

Not sure where you're living, but check with your local/county health dept. Our regular doctor's office (a university affiliated healthcare system) has just started 'working their lists' for the 75+ year olds, so who knows when they'd get to 65+. As it stands, we'll be vaccinated through the county before the university healthcare system gets to us.

Biden inauguration rehearsal is postponed due to security threats

The president-elect’s Amtrak trip to Washington, planned for Monday, has also been canceled.

I never knew this was a thing?

Every former president in the modern era has benefited from a unique national security perk after leaving the White House: routine intelligence briefings and access to classified information to support his continued involvement in advancing America’s interests. These briefings have been a matter of respectful convention and were granted by the new president to the old.

But convention left the premises a long time ago with President Trump, and his demonstrated approach to national security and intelligence suggest that a more purposeful decision must be made about providing intelligence to this soon-to-be former president.

"Recriminations were swift, with more than a dozen corporate giants — including AT&T, Nike, Comcast, Dow, Marriott, Walmart and Verizon — pledging to withhold donations to Republican lawmakers who voted to reject the outcome of the election in Arizona or Pennsylvania."

Worth noting that that all the names mentioned are global brands.

(Previous presidents having routine intelligence briefings and access to classified information)

I've known, and worried, about that for quite a while. Trump really isn't to be trusted with that. He'd probably sell his information to the highest bidder. (cough cough putin cough cough)

prettybird · 16/01/2021 19:01

You could envisage a scenario where Trump is briefed about something and it gets leaked - only to find out that it was a false fact (delicious trolling Wink) and that he was the only told it..... Wink

Perfect excuse to stop the courtesy of briefing him Grin

cyclingmad · 16/01/2021 19:05

Lol ah you see I never said a person can't chnage their mind. I said how you all seem to pas over the fact his 1994 crime bill has led to 4 people being given the death penalty

A clear example of Biden not being so perfect but you won't admit that he isn't so clean cut, you demonise Trump for executions but you don't demonise Biden for 20yrs of supporting the death penalty and then out in place laws that have resulted in 4 men being sentenced to the death penalty

Yes just skip past that one why don't you.

At least I won't ignore it, they are both as bad as each other and Biden can chnage his mind but what's he going to do about those who were sentenced to the death penalty because of his policy, he can point the finger at Trump all he likes but its pot kettle black, he is no better himself.

And seriously the guy has over 20,000 troops protecting DC, trains being cut off bridfes being cut off noine allowed anywhere near anyone and its still too much of a security concern.

Jesus you would have to be a ghost to get through that fortress.
