I remember it. Looks like it wasn't a flash in the pan.

After all those squirmy performances in front of select committees and the Leveson inquiry, and speeches about how the BBC should be got rid of to allow companies like News Corp (Fox, the Sun, News of the World ) greater reign...

Gosh. Damascus thataway -->

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/01/2021 15:54

Lweji
Checking on Biden's death penalty record.

I think the way to put it might be "he changed his mind, because after reflection he decided he had probably been wrong". This is of course in some way immoral. Also changing your mind can never be forgiven to any politician; I can remember when it used to be called "being open to new ideas", but now it is known as "a u-turn".

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/01/2021 15:55

Heh! See also James Murdoch, who seems to have changed his mind too.

Sobering article

Stephanie Hare @hare_brain

For four years, as Trump has brought ever more havoc and hatred to this country, many have wondered what it would take to dent his impunity. The answer appears to be twofold: Committing sedition, and losing power.

I like the Halfway Post's take on that, though.

I've never seen The Halfway Post before - I'm sitting here chuckling at that article.

Hopefully New York trying to ditch Trump is almost as upsetting for him as the PGA snub. Hasn't he always made a big thing of being a New Yorker ?

(Mind you, Googling "Is Donald Trump a Proud New Yorker" returned: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/11/donald-trump-was-never-real-new-yorker/601324/

In the 1980s, when life in New York City was an endless struggle to die of natural causes, Donald Trump thought he was on top of the world. It took the presidency for him to learn that he’d always been a citywide joke. It’s unfortunate that no one told him so back then, not even the true legends of New York: In 1983, when I worked for ABC Sports, I was with Howard Cosell as he interviewed Trump. When we left Trump Tower, Cosell said, “I’ve never met anyone luckier to be born rich.” To this day, Trump recalls Cosell fondly. If he only knew.

Actually the Democrats as reported have been pressuring him to change his mind

Like I said you all conveniently sidestep the gave he supported it for 30yrs so much so he worte 60 new reasons people can be senteced to the death penalty in his 1994 crime bill and that because of it 4 people were sentenced to death

What have you got to say about that? How do you excuse that? Do you think he doesn't have blood on his hands? Do you think that now he has changed his minds what he has done can be erased and forgiven?

Do you forgive him for that?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 16/01/2021 16:49

Someone wrote this in the comments section of one of our local papers, on an article about Trump's final leaving ceremony.

"I see picnic tables on the South Lawn with unlimited KFC. Everything washed down with PBR pounders and paper cups of Boones Farm wine. Ted Nugent and Mike Huckabee provide mood music and Meatloaf sings the anthem. At 11:15 am, an Uber pulls up to the front door, blows the horn, and Trump and Melania throw red candy hearts, engraved Be Best, to those in the crowd who can still stand. Uber delivers the former first couple to the bus station where Trump and Melania get free snacks from DC to Florida. Bus has multiple empty PBR cans tied to the rear bumper and a large white Just Impeached on the back."

DGR Grin I so hope that's real!

The deliciousness of Parler users complaining they've been led to act on deliberate false information![act]

I have stayed in that hotel in Cornwall and met the owner. He is truly bonkers in quite a scary way. He has his ownTV channel and was filming something the hotel is also full of weird paintings.
It is not surprising he is a Q anon nutcase. Incidentally that hotel was in the film of the Witches by Ronald Dahl.

Not really adding anything to the discussion on Donald Trump but that was a very odd experience in my life that I do understand better.

I'd just like to say that I've been following for the past three threads & it's been an eye opener. I've only posted once or twice but have been reading all of the links & my knowledge of American history/politics has certainly increased. I'd like to say thank you for the mainly measured discussions and information posted here.

littlebillie · 16/01/2021 17:03

I am sure that America is looking forward to a much quieter time. President serving the people, timely communication which restores faith in government and a leader on the world stage that demands respect.

cyclingmad I would love you to come back and discuss the things you got wrong in previous posts, such as the history of the Democratic party.

Whatabout.
Whatabout.
Whatabout.

I think that sums you up nicely.

pointythings · 16/01/2021 17:18

RatFarms you don't understand. Cyclingmad is allowed to say what they like, accuse us of whitewashing Biden because we don't like Trump (because life is that black and white), equate the one or two leftist/anarchists with thousands of marauding Trump supporters and take that to mean that on the 6th, the left was just as bad. Meanwhile, we have to be whiter than white and prove that the Democrats are saints.

Because as always the left is held to far, far higher moral standards than the right. And that isn't hypocritical at all.

This story about Jenna Ryan was funny too. From the story...

“Can’t face federal charges for exercising my right to freedom of speech and assembly,” she wrote last week, adding that she was “an innocent person who is not a professional rioter.”

“You can never cancel Jenna Ryan,” she wrote. However, by Monday, she said her publisher had canceled her self help book that was due out next month.

Thanks for the relatively new thread. By the time I get up they're 1/3 gone!

I see we are still attracting our very own 🦤. Oops, I meant 🐿. Butter-fingers me. Actually I think having our very own personal 🐿 is rather a sign of success. We must be right to have a someone so hell bent on telling us we're wrong. That makes us🦉

In better news, DH and I have our appointments for our first Covid shots. My blue state has just loosened its requirements.
