Works fine, @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime; thank you! Scary stuff.

Who else thinks the Colbert people take some inspiration from these threads?

The President is slithering off to M-a-L...

cyclingmad · 16/01/2021 14:14

@DuncinToffee

So you are supporting the death penalty then cyclingmad?
What does that have to do with the thread about Biden and posters commenting on how Trump is on an execution killing spree?

As I've said clearly Biden isn't innocent himself, having supported the death penalty for 30yrs and only now flipping on it. His crime bill that had it not been in place would have saved 4 people from being sentenced to death.

So as much as people comment on Trump killing people so they should also see that Biden has too. Neither is innocent and both have blood on their hands.

I want to go back to the time when Breaking News was that George Bush didn't like brocolli and Obama put dijon mustard on his burger

Was just saying to DH that this time next week the news won't be about what Trump is not doing as president.

prettybird · 16/01/2021 14:16

On the Westministender threads, we have an unspoken technique of collectively ignoring those 🐿 🐿🐿 that come and try to derail the discussion. Those Brexit supporters that do genuinely engage are listened to and respected. But the 🐿🐿 get ignored.

It might be worth adopting that here.

borntobequiet · 16/01/2021 14:17

They are as bad as each other.

I find that much of the time one hears or sees this being said, it’s indicative of either a lack of analytical thinking skills or sheer whataboutery.

prettybird · 16/01/2021 14:18

(Posted too soon) ....the thing is that they get off on the attention that they receive. So stop giving them the oxygen of attention.

Harking back to the 1800s as a way of proving the Democrats are bad is your best reach yet, cyclingmad.

This is a thread focused on the current situation. You only drag the past into it because it suits your agenda.

knittingaddict · 16/01/2021 14:27

You docknow back in 18000s the Democraf President Cleveland executed 14 people during his term.

Do you understand US political history cyclingmad?

In the 1800's the Democrat party was more like the Republican party and the Republicans more like Democrats today. At some point in history ( not sure when) they swopped their views somewhat. To look at what happened in the 1800's and say "whatabout" shows that you are ignorant of the facts.

This might help:

Furries · 16/01/2021 14:44

Just wanted to say thanks to those that responded to my early hours musings - definitely helped me to look at the situation from a different angle.

I needed a bit of cheering up today, so have just been down a rabbit hole of watching more of the Bad Lip Reading videos. Haven’t laughed so much for a while. Given Trump’s gift of rambling and waffling complete nonsense, it’s not too much of a stretch to think that the BLR videos are a true account of what he’s actually said!

Lweji · 16/01/2021 14:49

This is one of those basic facts of US history that it seems people ought to know if they're going to try to debate US history and politics.

Too right, can't wait.

prettybird wise words.

On this clip.... one of the rioters, the one who hired a private plane to go to the Capitol and riot Hmm says she was only doing what Trump asked her to do, and could he now please pardon her because she might end up in jail. Shock

It's interesting reading those early threads - I was on some of them under another username.

I remember asking people who said "I couldn't vote for Hillary" if they had really thought through how much worse Trump would be.

Turns out he was worse than pretty much anyone predicted.

Imagine if we'd had an effective, politically experienced female leader like Hillary in charge throughout this pandemic, rather than a deranged conspiracy theorist.

@Roussette

Yes, that’s a sobering thought. It would probably have been a very different story if Hillary Clinton had been President. She would have listened carefully to Anthony Fauci and followed his advice.

Trump by contrast just washed his hands of any responsibility by blaming it all on China.

Mittens030869 · 16/01/2021 15:28

Apologies, I see that it was you who suggested that Hillary would have handled the pandemic differently, @ZZTopGuitarSolo
