To think Mumsnet should add like buttons?

The format of this board has been the same forever. We can't create sub threads like you can on Redditt. Meaning if you want to comment on another commentors post rather than the OP's you can't>

At the very least i'd like to visually be able to like/dislike/show shock etc like FB

So by now I don't think I'm being unreasonable to ask Mumsnet to improve our experience by adding like "reaction" buttons

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 14/01/2021 17:48

No.

This comes up again and again and the newer is always no.

Use your words!

Answer.

Stick with Reddit then. Job done.

Notimeforaname · 14/01/2021 17:50

No. Less of that shit.

sands69 · 14/01/2021 17:50

@SoupDragon you can't respond directly to a post, your response "in words" will be further down the thread. It doesn't flow.

and we can type :D and so on, but it's not 1995 any more

No it hasn't. It's had lots of changes.

Yes you can.

sands69 · 14/01/2021 17:51

see, that deserves angry face because you're being a dick!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 14/01/2021 17:51

Why would you want to type :D ?

Notimeforaname · 14/01/2021 17:51

Just use an emoji if you really need to quickly show your shock or reaction to something.

Notimeforaname · 14/01/2021 17:51
Hmm

No I'm not.
BaggoMcoys · 14/01/2021 17:54

I wouldn't like those sub threads to be on here. I find they make a thread a bit confusing to follow. It does mean I sometimes have to scroll back to see what another poster is refering to if they've not made it clear by bolding a quote from the pp, but the quote function has sorted that out for the most part I think.

I don't know about likes/reacts... Sometimes I read a post and do really agree with it, but it runs the risk of turning posts into more of a popularity/like-gaining contest. I enjoy reading a range of views and giving my own. I don't need to see that 6 or 60 people have agreed with me, or agreed with something another person said. I'd hate it if people started to make twitter style ott statements just for attention/likes.

SomewhatBored · 14/01/2021 17:56

If I wanted to use Facebook, I would use Facebook.

If Mumsnet started copying Facebook, I'd be off.

Why not embrace the fact it's different? Go on Facebook to get your 'likes' if you need them, then come on here where people articulate their reasons for liking or disliking a post rather than mindlessly pressing a button.

Cabinfever10 · 14/01/2021 17:56

@sands69 you can just @ the poster your responding to not only will the poster get a notification but people know who your talking to or just quote the post

AdaColeman · 14/01/2021 18:06

@sands69 You can respond directly to any poster, as I have here.

I'd vote NO to a like button as I believe it would reduce discussion and interaction between posters. I don't especially want MN to become more like FaceBook or Redditt, that's why I'm posting here!

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/01/2021 18:42

but the quote function has sorted that out for the most part I think. No it hasn't because people are quoting really long posts, sometimes several people, so you have a thread where you keep have to scroll down past the same damned post. You can't use the quote function to quote only the bit you're referring to, and you can use the quote function on a post that has quoted someone else.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/01/2021 18:44

No. People don't necessarily post here looking for approval.

SoupDragon · 14/01/2021 18:45

and you can use the quote function on a post that has quoted someone else.

Assuming you mean "can't use" that was deliberate to avoid the awful thing that is multiple quotes\threading.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 14/01/2021 18:46

No.
If you like the format of Facebook use Facebook.
Ditto reddit.

Personally I preferred the "old way" of quoting (copy and paste. Name of whoever you are quoting in bold. Actual quote in italics). Its the way we always did it in the old days.

SoupDragon · 14/01/2021 18:49

Its the way we always did it in the old days.

I remember the days when we had to use quotation marks as there was no formatting 😂😂

Ellieboolou33 · 14/01/2021 18:49

No

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 14/01/2021 18:56

I think you've been here longer than me @SoupDragon Grin

Thedogscollar · 14/01/2021 18:56

If this becomes remotely like Fakebook then I'm off.

WorraLiberty · 14/01/2021 18:59

YANBU OP

MNHQ say they'll look into it if the majority want it. However, it's always been something a lot of posters have been quite against.

Having said that, I don't think there are anywhere near as many against the idea as there was a few years ago.

It's a shame your thread title doesn't say what this thread is about as I think a 'YABU/YANBU' vote on it now would be interesting.
