To think Mumsnet should add like buttons?

The format of this board has been the same forever. We can't create sub threads like you can on Redditt. Meaning if you want to comment on another commentors post rather than the OP's you can't>

At the very least i'd like to visually be able to like/dislike/show shock etc like FB

So by now I don't think I'm being unreasonable to ask Mumsnet to improve our experience by adding like "reaction" buttons

I often think I'd like 'like' or reaction buttons. Sometimes a post will make me laugh or I want to show I agree but I don't want to post or don't think people will be interested in my post.

I think as well if someone says something really funny for example, it can be irritating to see that post quoted over and over again, with just Grin Grin as a reply (which is a perfectly valid reply to let someone know they made you laugh).

A reaction button would be much better, especially as threads still fill up at 1000 posts.

SnowFields · 14/01/2021 19:06

Those who seek verification on an anonymous forum in the form of likes/dislikes have other places to go.

I’d rather MN focused on their security and decent moderation.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 14/01/2021 19:23

I don't want sub threads but being able to like or whatever would be good.

I don't know how to quote a poster using the app. I know I should learn.

sands69 · 15/01/2021 10:13

Thanks for your input, good to understand what you like and why

I'd prefer an edit button before a like button.

Cokie3 · 15/01/2021 16:04

I do think sub threads are a good idea. It would make it easier to follow conversations. However the majority of posters want an 'edit' function, which is simply something the most basic of forums have had, for 20-odd years, and Mumsnet won't do anything about that, even though the majority want it.

bluecheesefan · 15/01/2021 16:07

I agree.

Take your pick as to which post it is I'm agreeing with. If there was a 'like' button, you'd know.

ilovesooty · 15/01/2021 16:16

No thank you. I don't want a like button and I don't like the Reddit format either. If you prefer other formats, use them.

ilovesooty · 15/01/2021 16:18

Oh, if we had an edit button I'd have added that your thread title is incredibly lazy.

OHolyTights · 15/01/2021 16:23

YABU on all suggestions and on the thread title.

Mumsnet does not need to be like the other sites you mention - no thank you very much.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 16:31

I think the opposite as it gets distracting and cluttered.

There are other forums that offer this though and there are other forums that offer "like" buttons. Some do both.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2021 16:32

@bluecheesefan

I agree.

Take your pick as to which post it is I'm agreeing with. If there was a 'like' button, you'd know.

If you'd bothered to use the "quote" function we would also know.
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/01/2021 16:41

I would have put a 'sigh' emoji to this but there isn't one.

Oh well...

YouBoughtMeAWall · 15/01/2021 16:43

That’s why I like it here. My brain can’t process Reddit.

BettyAndVeronica · 15/01/2021 16:45

YANBU I would like to be able to comment directly under another poster's comment.
No fussed about reaction / like thingy

AuntieStella · 15/01/2021 16:47

I like it that MN is not like other sites.

MNHQ had a poll (in Site Stuff, and pinned in Active to maximise people seeing it, and with a title that was clear what it was on about).

The idea was roundly rebuffed.
