Neighbour won’t give me my parcel

334 replies

Cheeseboardandmincepies · 13/01/2021 11:25

I ordered some things from a friend who accidentally sent my parcel to the wrong address (she put 1 in front of my actual number).
I know the neighbour has it as it’s been signed for on Hermes, I’ve knocked and knocked and I know they’re in but they won’t answer the door to me so I can’t get my parcel.
I can’t ask the seller as they have personal things going on and a very poorly DC so it’s not fair to put this on them. Anyone know where I stand please other than mailing them an envelope full of glitter? It was a lot of money and I’m very pissed off!

OP posts:

Yes it was. The name might be wrong. But the address was right. Hermes will say we gave it to the correct address.[/quote]
So, it wasn't addressed to them was it? Unless they have the same name as the OP which seems unlikely.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2021 14:21

Hermes are irrelevant in this.

SleepingStandingUp · 13/01/2021 14:22

@Cheeseboardandmincepies

should anyone issue a refund? This is the address given. Seller shouldn't be out of pocket for sending something to an address they were given...

I gave the right address. It was the seller who added the extra number to my address. Blush

Can you prove that?
WhereverIGoddamnLike · 13/01/2021 14:23

@Beautifulbonnie

It was not addressed to them.
Hermes havent done anything wrong. They delivered to the street address on the parcel. But the people living there cannot open that parcel because it is not addresses to them; it has someone else's name on it. It isnt addressed to them.
If you try to benefit by keeping something you know isnt yours, which you have received because someone else made a mistake then it is theft. You cant profit from someone else's mistake if they come along and tell you that there was an error.

Same4Walls · 13/01/2021 14:23

I agree. Hermes have done their job and done nothing wrong.

The neighbours however have acted dishonesty and are completely in the wrong. They are still guilty of theft even if it was their address was on the parcel.

I know. Hermes have fulfilled their contract.

Lostinthemail · 13/01/2021 15:07

@sofiaaaaaa

Report to 101 if they continue to ignore you. You’ve tried to resolve it, they’ve refused to engage.
Which is their absolute right. For all they know OP isn’t honest and the mistake was made on purpose, by her. Maybe they even tried to contact the seller about this, but the seller didn’t respond because of the personal circumstances the OP mentioned. The OP should get back to the seller, friend or not.
Pesimistic · 13/01/2021 15:08

Seller needs to refund you or send replacement thwn if neighbour isn't giving it to you

bobbojobbo · 13/01/2021 15:13

And if you haven't heard back in 24 hours following the second note, call the police

who will do nothing at all.

Whiskysoda · 13/01/2021 15:32

It’s stealing. Post a note saying you have proof that they signed for it and you are taking advice from a solicitor as theft is a crime.

Whynothaveathird · 13/01/2021 15:53

I’d literally camp out on their doorstep as I’m stubborn af.

earlydoors42 · 13/01/2021 15:55

I don't want to be cynical but are you sure the seller has issues going on? This seems to happen a lot when sellers make mistakes.....

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 13/01/2021 16:02

I hope you get your package back, @Cheeseboardandmincepies - I absolutely abhor the sort of dishonesty your neighbours are demonstrating.

WitchesGlove · 13/01/2021 16:03

@GoldenLabbie

That’s ridiculous! Even if you live in a rough area I’d say the chances of the person knocking being a serial killer or someone who means you harm are minuscule. Also what’s to stop a psychopath shouting that they are police? Mumsnet is such a fucking weird place at time , it really is. So many of you dont seem to live in the real world.

By not answering their door and refusing to hand over the parcel this person is actually committing theft.

In some areas beggars come round to people’s doors and it’s a nuisance, basically.
IntermittentParps · 13/01/2021 16:07

Perform a 15 minute Phil Collins drum solo on their window, that should sort 'em right out.
Grin

In full gorilla costume or not?

Thomasy · 13/01/2021 16:18

I'm an ex courier for hermes the current rules are they must take a photo unless it's a signature required ( then the courier just puts handed to customer in the signature box) . But the photo should be of the parcel on the doorstep with the door open and they should of emailed it too you as proof of delivery. Hopefully you would be able to see its clearly your neighbours house, could you print it off and pop it through the door so they'll know you know 100% it's them who has it?

PrankedByLife · 13/01/2021 16:19

Why didn't the company that sold it you take it up with their parcel delivery company?
You could've been refunded, they shouldn't have left it with the neighbours.

PrankedByLife · 13/01/2021 16:21

So what happened? Did you get the parcel back?

Lochroy · 13/01/2021 16:24

Flipping heck. Some people need to RTFT. It was delivered quite correctly to the address to which it was addressed. The issue is it was incorrectly addressed and the neighbours who took delivery won't answer the door to the OP.

WitchesGlove · 13/01/2021 16:24

@EspressoExpresso

I'd give the note 48 hours and then go to the local social media page

"Does anyone know the family who live at 123 church road? They have received a parcel that was meant for me (post photo of the doorway if you have one from Hermes) and I've been unable to get a response by knocking or after posting a note. Please could you ask them to contact me?"

Social compliance is a powerful thing!

Good idea
WhereverIGoddamnLike · 13/01/2021 16:24

@PrankedByLife

The delivery courier hasnt done anything wrong. The seller wrote down the wrong address. The courier delivered to the address on the parcel. They didnt leave it with a neighbour. The delivered it to the address on the parcel. It's nothing to do with them anymore.

The seller needs to refund or repost the order and needs to accept the lose or approach the people living at the address she sent it to.

Taylrse · 13/01/2021 16:24

So do the neighbours plan to just avoid you for however long you live next door!
I think I would leave them a note because they are dirty thieves who should feel ashamed,
but also contact the seller if they are the ones who wrote the wrong door number on the address.

MustardMitt · 13/01/2021 16:28

As they’re not next door, if I could see them in the house I’d just stand and knock until they opened up. If they took issue with that I’d give them the Confused face and say they could have just got up and opened the door earlier?!

Bookworming · 13/01/2021 16:36

🤦‍♀️

This is nothing like the scenario the OP stated in the short first post! Nothing at all!
