Rumours that Scrotus will leave Washington on the 19th got me to musing about 'leaving' traditions.

It's been made clear that Melania will NOT be hosting Dr Jill and that the Trumps will not be inviting the Bidens for morning coffee pre-inauguration. But will Scrotus leave Biden the traditional 'letter'?

I'm betting it's going to be "I won" repeated over and over to fill an 8x11 sheet of paper. It will close with the words 'by a lot' and 'so there!'

With a soiled nappy on top as a paperweight...

FFS

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) just promised Newsmax to introduce articles of impeachment against Joe Biden on Jan. 21.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/01/2021 00:58

Let's hope the house expels her first, before she wastes their time.

I'm going to post this and then go to, so I'm not ignoring responses

I'm confused by the terminology around impeachment. Trump was acquitted last year so how is this a second impeachment? Does it just mean the process rather than the outcome?

Thank you.

AcornAutumn · 14/01/2021 01:35

*go to bed, that should say! Clearly .i need to 😂

I must admit but the one and only time I felt a little twinge of sympathy for Melania was when she arrived at the WH with a gift for the Obamas and the media were really quite nasty about it ...

It passed quite quickly though.

James Comey was interviewed by Emily Maitliss on Newsnight tonight (well, last night now). Well worth watching.

Completely new set of offences, viz incitement of last week's insurrection.

If someone got off with shoplifting last year, it doesn't prevent them being prosecuted when they commit a burglary this year.

PerkingFaintly · 14/01/2021 02:05

Oh, hang on, I think I've just understood your question better. Impeachment in the House of Representatives is followed by a trial in the Senate.

Last year he was impeached and then acquitted in a trial.

He's been impeached again. He will now be tried again.

For normal laws think of "impeachment" as "charged".

He was impeached by the house, sort of charged by the police, then tried but acquitted by the senate, so not guilty at trial.

So he's been charged for a second time

Just seeing on CNN that Trump has possibly told staff not to pay Gulliani’s fees. Am now slightly concerned about how he will pay for his hair dye!

Sinful8 · 14/01/2021 03:51

Oh god I wonder how much dirt Gulliani knows.

If he's not paid then is him testifying a breech of privilege or does it make anything they said not confidential

No idea! Am hoping someone can throw some light on this re US procedure in due course.

At the moment, it’s a source that said it, so who knows.

Time difference is playing havoc with my routine! Keep thinking “must go to bed” and then I don’t!

Furries · 14/01/2021 04:06

@PatriciaHolm

It's been noted on Twitter that he actually said "I cannot emphasize that there must be no violence, no lawbreaking, and no vandalism."

Whilst that may have been an autocue misread, I bet his more rapid followers will see it as a message....

Has anyone seen this picked up on any networks yet? I’ve had CNN on in the background until way past my bedtime, but haven’t clocked anyone picking up on it (though could have been distracted).

He definitely omitted the word “enough”, but haven’t seen it mentioned. Interested whether those watching other channels have seen anything.

It’s a small slip of the tongue, but with huge implications.

I’m assuming that any addresses from autocue, the text has to be saved for x amount of time? But he could still claim slip of the tongue.

Jeez, now I’m starting to feel like a conspiracy theorist!

Zug2 · 14/01/2021 05:05

Apparently written by two lawyers, with help from his speech writer. Of course no mention that the election was indeed won fairly and squarely by President elect Biden.

Zug2 · 14/01/2021 05:16

I believe he doesn't give a damm about the impeachment, its the fallout on his businesses which is unnerving him, I don't think he expected that to happen.

CaveMum · 14/01/2021 06:33

Morning all.

Nancy Pelosi is introducing fines for members who do not wear a mask on the House floor and for those who refuse to pass through the newly installed metal detectors.

Morning all! I wonder how his base has reacted to his statement? Will see if I can find anything on Twitter...

I'm surprised that Pelosi has those powers. Are they new, ie covid related? Or has the Speaker always had them?

Dongdingdong · 14/01/2021 07:10

A good, measured speech from The Donald IMO. It’s just a shame he didn’t make it earlier.

Ah it's ok - answer is mostly in the article! Thanks for the link.

Trump could have saved time and played Shaggys It wasn't Me on that video.
You know when children are small and they do something naughty in front of you and then deny all knowledge of it when you ask them why? And they tend to put on a faux innocent face but you can see the sullen expression? That's what that video reminded me of.
