That was a video laden with the sins of omission.

Even if Biden does pardon him, Trump will still be in the frame for his alleged state crimes esp the tax fraud stuff in NY - as will the fragrant Ivanka. She has a lot of money 'resting' in her account.

cyclingmad · 14/01/2021 07:49

I do wonder if Biden will take those Democratic governors to task int have states where they sat back and did nothing to stop the violence over summer, they stayed pretty silent and even refused help to stop them.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 07:50

@Wherrsmaclickypen

autocue and sedation. That is all I have to say on that.
Catching up with last night's events and looking for summaries as have no intention of watching that video - that is brilliant, @Wherrsmaclickypen Smile

I've been streaming cnn on my echo for 2 hours every night since the 6th listening to it while laying in bed, I've also booked next week off work (I have loads to take before 5th April and have to use it or lose it) I usually watch the swearing in ceremony and then go to bed so don't need to take any time off but I have an absolute dread of what might happen in USA from 17th onwards - we have been witnessing history being made, and I sadly don't think it's over.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 08:11

Dan Rather. A short video. Don't bother to compare and contrast with Trump. Though I have to say, Mr Rather doesn't look very well to meSad

Great posts overnight everyone!

As far as his 'speech', he will have been forced to do this. The ramifications of how he behaved last Wednesday are coming home to roost. His businesses are starting to be affected, he has had it pointed out to him no doubt, the effects of what went on and how it will impact on him after 20th.

But let's not forget the contrast between that speech and how he was last Wednesday. He holds a rally on the day Biden is being certificated as the new POTUS, he gives rallying calls inciting violence, then watched it with glee unfolding, so much so he couldn't understand why everyone watching it with him weren't as excited as him. It was what he wanted so having listened to his speech... it was BS and he did it to save his skin.

I posted this elsewhere...

It's his speech that has been annotated to show all that he was inciting his followers to do.

Jake Tapper said last night that the Republicans were split into categories; ones who were horrified and wanted to impeach, ones who accepted that Trump incited it but didn’t think impeachment was the right route, the ones who didn’t think he incited anything and anyway what about Portland, and then the ones like Ted Cruz who are just insane.

Massively paraphrasing but that was the gist.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 08:37

@Gracesquirrel - you are not alone in that fear.

Did someone say something about it being all about the money?

A third bank declared its plans to cut ties with President Trump and the Trump Organization on Tuesday in the aftermath of the riot at the Capitol last week.

Florida-based Professional Bank, which once provided Trump with an $11 million mortgage, announced that it won't conduct future business with the president or his organization, Bloomberg News reported.
........
Earlier this week, Bloomberg News reported that Deutsche Bank would not conduct future business with Trump or his company besides monitoring the payment of existing loans amounting to more than $300 million.

The New York-based Signature Bank announced that it would close down Trump's personal accounts that have about $5.3 million due to the "displeasure and shock" management experienced following the Capitol riot.

The New York bank also called on the president to resign and said it would not make future agreements with lawmakers who contested the Electoral College results after the riot.

Do we think the senate will convict Trump?
I'm not comfortable with the idea of him receiving benefits given to ex presidents, running for office and not facing trial for all the allegations against him that he hid from, behind his presidency

TheNorthWestPawsage · 14/01/2021 08:44

Stephen Colbert's take on it all

No.
Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 08:45

Good grief, though, @YippeeKayakOtherBuckets, so only 10 Republicans are so horrified they want to impeach (or 27 if we add the expected Senate). Out of 286 currently in Congress?
Could we find more synonyms for: "disgraceful", "disgusting", "horrifying", "shameful" and "shocking", please?

No I can't see it happening. Senate tends to not break ranks the way the House does. McConnell wont recall Senate until 19th. And by the 21st, he'll say Trump is no longer in office so what's the point or voting to remove him. Although he won't be leader of the Senate, I assume he'll be Minority Leader so he'll be the one GOP Senators follow.. There's even some suggestion that once he leaves office, the Senate has no jurisdiction over Trump so it's moot.
Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 14/01/2021 09:02

My immediate thought on seeing the photo of those boxes was to wonder if they are Trojan Horses and have MAGA infiltrators inside them, ready to lurk in the WH to attack the Biden family when they arrive.
I really have become a conspiracy theorist. Also, to be fair, married to a Greek. Grin

Darker · 14/01/2021 09:10

I hear Trump is not paying Rudy.

Ha those boxes reminded me of this song!

I wonder just how skint Trump really is, when you peel back all the dodgy accounting. He seems to constantly be cash light. My guess is his (properly valued) assets, set against his liabilities and outgoings, must by now be in peril.

When the Trump family's financial house of cards comes crashing down it's going to be Maxwellian.

Melania's divorce settlement should be illuminating. She may have timed this badly, leaving it too long, buying into future promises that could never be delivered to get her to stall. She might get about a dollar fifty and Donald will get custody of the tanning booth with the wonky door. She'll have to move in with her parents.

she might even have to get paid employment.

Destinysdaughter · 14/01/2021 09:40

She'll probably just find another rich man to sponge off!

cyclingmad · 14/01/2021 09:42

If only we had the equivalent in the UK and could impeach Tony Blair leading our troops into a false war and now sitting back reaping ex Prime Minsiter benefits with blood on his hands

borntobequiet · 14/01/2021 09:42

She could set up a girl band with her body doubles.
