I've been part of this local tight-knit volunteering group for about a year now. Recently, there was a change in 'leadership' which is fine. I have, however, been told by her (twice!) to change my email address (it's listed in the private group listing) as it looks 'rude'!

My email address is simply firstnamelastname, with my first name being probably the most popular shortened variant of a fairly popular name. In her eyes, it contains nothing but 2 bad words which 'gives the wrong impression'. Surely people aren't that daft to not realise that it's just my name, and a well-known one at that?

I'm gobsmacked by the ridiculousness of it all. AIBU?

so funny.... 1 the whole idea of volunteering is just that. You are a volunteer, so no one has any right to insist you do anything in particular. She sounds power struck. Tell her to keep her nose out ... or change your email address to something even more dodgy.. x

I’m sure it is an apocryphal story but there supposedly was a family in the locality with the surname ‘Dick’. Hard enough to bear, but with the offspring named Everard, Ophelia and Ivor....one does wonder at supposedly ‘sensitive’ parents. It is so bizarre that I really think it’s a made up family.

I once changed my name on Instagram from my full name to an impervious pseudonym: Peanutpusskins.

I quickly changed it back again when a couple of people posted crying with laughter emojis and I realised how it could be interpreted.

I still like it though. Might bring it back
