To think that she should just stop commenting on my name?

I've been part of this local tight-knit volunteering group for about a year now. Recently, there was a change in 'leadership' which is fine. I have, however, been told by her (twice!) to change my email address (it's listed in the private group listing) as it looks 'rude'!

My email address is simply firstnamelastname, with my first name being probably the most popular shortened variant of a fairly popular name. In her eyes, it contains nothing but 2 bad words which 'gives the wrong impression'. Surely people aren't that daft to not realise that it's just my name, and a well-known one at that?

I'm gobsmacked by the ridiculousness of it all. AIBU?

Back in the day, there were whole IT support channels dedicated to these sorts of things. Especially when it was popular to give people email addresses of the form [email protected] where i was their initial.

Clive Litt was genuinely the chief information officer at Telecom New Zealand. Rumour has it he forced the entire company to change to [email protected].

Charmatt · 12/01/2021 17:33

I once worked for a Jenny Taylor.

I look forward to the day I work for a Hugh Jass!

mumda · 12/01/2021 17:34

My email domain is a rude word in another language. Thankfully obscure enough for no one to know. Apart from the nice man from that country who emailed me to let me know.

DENGREEN · 12/01/2021 17:38

Who does she think is, trying to dictate personal contact details? The new power has gone to her head 😊. Completely ignore her. X

Charmatt · 12/01/2021 17:39

I was at college with a lad called Colin Watson. He was very obnoxious and goady. Someone added a T between his names on a list on a noticeboard and then someone else changed it a bit more.

He was known as Colon Twatson for most of the time he was at college. I met my husband there and we still refer to him as that 30 years later.

Cam2020 · 12/01/2021 17:40

Roberta268 · 12/01/2021 18:02

I worked with someone who had the last name Hare and a first name beginning with M. She was designated in the work system as HAREM Grin

godmum56 · 12/01/2021 18:04

I'd tell her hon y soit qui mal y pense and let her work that one out

Mummyyyyyyyyyy · 12/01/2021 18:05

There was a woman in the chemist collecting her medication with the surname Gotobed. The young girl pronounced it as seen but the lady corrected her with Gottobeyt. Reminded me of Hyacinth Bucket!
